Most divers in salt water will use the camera in a housing.
Yeah if you are diving saltwater I would recommend the housing. The depth gauge won’t work if you do so but that’s not a critical feature, I just wanted to try it out for the sake of the video
Excellent Video ! CoCo View and Roatan are on the top of my bucket list. However, health is not permitting me to currently go. Sad to hear about the coral bleaching. Was disappointed with the visibility in the video.
Sorry to hear that, I hope you can get out to Roatan sometime soon. The vis in cocoview can be a hit and miss based on the tides drawing dirty water in and out of the lagoon
@Fishycomics mentioned the C-type door was loose. It opens when you push it without pressing the button. The same thing happened on my dji 5. Do you also have such a problem?
Hi! I have not noticed that issue on the DJI 5. However I did notice that issue on the 4….i would recommend just using it with the cage when you take it into the water and the cage should prevent it from coming unsealed
Here's my opinion on the video for me it's on the dark side it would have been interesting to see the footage if you had a light rig... I've done oil tankers in Florida so I thought image quality was exceptional it was just a little too dark ... I bought this camera for stabilization.. !!! And we'll see if it gets it right underwater because GoPro suffer from this weird yellowy greeny crap . The older GoPros had a real huge problem filming underwater it was a weird thing it would do... Im waiting for it to arrive Ups ...But so far this camera iReviews are amazing and it seems to really really have it together when it comes to image quality I'm just so blown away by the image quality compared to a high-quality mirrorless camera like maybe black Pocket magic camera or a Sony A7 2rs or whatever the newest Canon is...
Thank you for your reviews. I'm having a difficult time deciding on which underwater camera to get...I need the best camera for indoor and outdoor pool underwater video of my exercise demonstrations. Which one do you recommend or are they all fairly similar?
They are all pretty good, I honestly don’t think that you can go wrong…DJI 5 and insta360 ace 2 both have amazing battery life if you are doing longer workouts and don’t want to mess with changing out the battery
Which river in Texas was this shot in it looks amazing
My recent underwater video. ruclips.net/video/DgHdBfsIxTs/видео.html
I know this is an oddball- but I’m 6 dives into the new world underwater and I understand I have to log 25 dives to then approach spring lake in San Marcos-> I’m an hour north of it and I’d love to have the opportunity to make it a regular dive spot-> I guess what I’m asking is, where may I go about finding the information for approaching the group that regulates the divers there? Is it an invite only basis, I’m just curious by nature, appreciative of your time and this beautiful footage! Keep up the beautiful work and have safe dives🙌🏻
Great question! Visit the website for “the meadows center for water and the environment” and look up a course called the “diver authorization course” or the DAC. Once you take that class you can dive in Spring Lake as much as you like…Hope to see you there!
@ this is beyond helpful and likewise! Thank you!
great video. What are the best settings for diving and which stabilization? where is it so interesting underwater?😊🤿
Thanks! Rocksteady plus for sure, this place is in San Marcos Tx
@@scottbauerbelow Thank you very much. Which one is better wide or ultra wide?
I like ultra wide and I would recommend to set your EV balance to -1
Wow, I think 60 feet with no case AND the depth meter are amazing
Yeah I think it’s a great option
I just received my GoPro 12 but the settings don’t look like this. I checked out a lot of videos for low light settings on the GoPro 12 and they’re the same as yours. Meaning mine is different. I wonder if they’ve updated their software and this is the result.
Nice video! I have been frustrated with the radical white balance shifts as well. have you figured out a workaround? I've been considering just setting a manual WB.
Thank you! I have not unfortunately. Like you, I have thought about setting a manual WB but that would only be effective if you plan on remaining at the same depth throughout your entire dive…
What is your thought on it versus Action 4? I have an action 4 and not sure if an upgrade is worth it?
Yeah that is a great question, I think the battery life on the action 5 is great, if that is an issue for you then maybe consider the upgrade. The footage also looks great and it seems like the action 5 has less of a tendency to be biased towards a green or purple tinted color when it does it’s auto WB…I really like the 5 but your 4 is not bad either
@@scottbauerbelow thanks for the info, I find the battery to not be so great specially when recording in 4k 60P. I have had to recharge it in between dives.
when will you review the ace pro 2 ?
As soon as I can, i currently have one on the way!
silly question but i have not used gopro yet, i ordered hero 12 and it's on its way...question is - do i need a waterproof case to use it under water or the unit itself can be taken down underwater without waterproof case?
Great video can’t wait for a ACE Pro 2 review 👍
Thank you! I have an ace pro 2 on the way!
Florida is awesome. Are there gators in this lake?
This is actually in Texas at Spring Lake in San Marcos….no gators!
Let me know where you took out the trash, I could really do with that GoPro 😂
lol….too late my friend
Another very good video Scott. Thanks.
Thank you!
Internal Storage is 47.8 Gb on Dji, not 65 ;)
Yup! That is my mistake!
Wow, stunning shots! Did you install the latest firmware from a week or so ago? I have been using the 0A5 on my last few kayaking fishing trips and have been impressed especially with the super night mode.
Thank you very much! No this was the version just before that
@Fishycomics mentioned the C-type door was loose. It opens when you push it without pressing the button. The same thing happened on my dji 5. Do you also have such a problem?
7:40 looks like a rare species 😮
That is one of my favorite freshwater fish….that is a spotted gar, they live in most freshwater springs found in Florida and Texas
Not you binning the go pro. I need em😭
Lol
Good review! Good video!
Thank you!!! I hope it was helpful
Thanks for the content! Was the GoPro's going in the trash a subliminal message that the Action 5 is better? Your video footage using the GoPro looked pretty good in your other video. I know that both are good cams- but who has the edge with video quality?
lol, no I was just joking….i actually like the hero 12 the best to be honest but they are all very close. I’m also looking forward to trying the insta360 Acepro 2 which will probably be the next video
@@scottbauerbelow Funny- thanks for the advice!
Nice work! Thanks! Dji osmo action 5 pro looks good to me. Video quality 👍
Thanks! Yeah it’s a good option!
This is a great video. I would like an action cam with me that I dont have to worry about shutting down whenever it wants like the Gopro Hero 12 black
Thank you! Yeah my hero 12 didn’t have any issues unless I ran it in 5k….however the DJI didn’t seem to have any sort of overheating issues and it seemed like you can run it for its full battery life with out it shutting down…it’s a really good option
Seems the random shutting down feature on the GoPro's is a known issue- My last GoPro, the hero 8 Black did this constantly. Never buy another GoPro product again!
Anyway to include depth gauge into video clip? That would be pretty awesome Ps great video as always
Thanks man! I don’t believe so, as far as I can tell, the depth gauge is only visible from the cameras view finder…
It should be possible. I've seen some freedivers do it; there should be an option for it in the app, under the section for data overlays. Unfortunately, this only works without a case up to 20m, and that's not very deep for a freediver.
@@suntzuthesecond that’d be cool! @scottbauerbelow worth checking on that!
@@scottbauerbelow You can put the depth gauge using DJI mimo app on your phone. Using the dashboard and choose diving. You can even import your Garmin dive computer's FIT data to show it in a video. However, I only find it available through the app, hopefully we can put it on PC somehow
@@suntzuthesecond You can import your Apple or Garmin dive computer's FIT data in the app, so a deeper data might be possible. I haven't go deeper than 20 meters though so couldn't test
pretty sure the answer is no, but Is it possible to change the settings while underwater? Or do you have to surface for every single change?
You can! You will set up different profiles that each have their own setting and then you can switch between those different profiles while you are underwater
@@scottbauerbelow wow, that's stellar, thanks!
hello, when can we expect the next video for hero 13 best setting for underwater?
Hopefully very soon!
HARDCORE!!!! Looks awesome.
Great review! What housing are you using and where one can get a two-arm rig like that?
Thank you, the tray is from Newer and the housing is from Telesin you can search for those on Amazon….
Good day, sir. The soundtracks in this video are amazing and breathtaking ! Where do you find them?
Thank you! This came from artlist
is the color sensor works whith the water proof case?
It should as far as I can tell
what spring is this?? I'm in SA, it would be awesome to go check it out, weather's still warm
Unfortunately, you will need a permit from the city to get in the water here….it is in New Branfels
@@scottbauerbelow ah it's san marcos... yeah, you just have to apply for it
Wow thx very much for this video ! I have the Action 4 and will buy the 5. For me, i still detected a defect on the 4 which I hope will be corrected on the 5; when I'm in the sea, snorkeling, the quality is impressive but... From time to time, the color turns green, before recovering within 10 to 20 seconds... Which never happens on gopro. As a result, I have to modify the colors of these "moments" on my editing software. On the internet, they say it's because of the front sensor which constantly adapts, and which the gopro doesn't have. We have great quality underwater, better than GoPro, but from time to time, it sucks as explained... Too bad.
I completely agree! I really enjoyed the action 5 but it too can be a bit shifty with color as seen in my last video but it has certainly improved from the 4
Sir can I ask why when I upload my video to facebook its pixelated? But others can upload looking like 1080p or even 4k.. is there a trick out there on how to upload to social media? Thanks
I appreciate your videos- thank you! I was wondering, what camera do you think has the better underwater image quality to you- GoPro 13 or the Action 4?
That’s a great question! I would lean more towards the hero 12 or the hero 13 as they are pretty much the same…although the action 4 isn’t bad, I’m also getting ready to post a video about the action 5 pro in the next 2 or 3 weeks
@@scottbauerbelow Thanks for the advice! Wish it was possible to combine the pros of both cameras into one!
Linear and hyperview have distort images in sides/corners, wide is perfect for underwater. Color Natural seems the way to go. Slow motion at 20% is amazing. Regarding the Osmo 5Pro it seems to have more potencial due their hardware but they rush their firmware on launch day, and the gopro 13 is more a finished product with very stable firmware.
Yeah i agree, I think linear is too narrow as well…and I agree with the stability of the hero 13’s software which is surprising because they have had so many issues in the past…I haven’t noticed any bugs with the 13 so far and I have been using it a lot…however I’m not noticing any difference in quality from the 12…which isn’t the worst thing because I liked the way the hero 12’s white balance performed underwater
Please do the same again with the new DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, many will appreciate that, thanks.
Funny that you mention that, I’m working on it now lol
Hey I just come home from a shooting with the DJI action 4 under water. In some shots with artificial lighting I see this very slight horisontal bands, very disturbing. I shoot I max quality 10 bit etc. Have you experienced something similar, a true headscratcher
Yeah this can happen…Sony a7iv is known for that as well, I believe they fixed it with a firmware update however
Just got back frm cocoview. It was awesome!
Amazing place!
Dope review ! Thank you
You are very welcome!
Looks amazing!
Thanks for video. I have just changed to OA1 to OA4 so I am curious to see if there will be visible difference between the two. I dive only to 18M (OWD) so I am thinking if I will need the housing, probably yes, just in case... And I will probably shoot in 60fps, rock steady plus. I was wandering if the digital stabilization under the water is same effective as in above water footage.
Very nice! Good luck with the new camera…and yes, the stabilization works great underwater
Been waiting for your review! Thanks as always!!!
Of course, Hope you enjoyed it!
Great video! We led glow trips there all summer.
That actually sounds really interesting
Wow, that brought back some old memories from my youthful caving days back in the 70's. You have way better equipment and clothing for this venture. We pretty much just had racks, Jumars and carabiners. Our three light souses were the trusty carbide lamp (Brighter then you think and would let you know if your were getting into bad air), a set of weak ass flashlights, matches and a last resort candle. Hardhats, T-Shirts, Blue Jeans, gloves and tennis shoes were our outfits of the day. We used Goldline rope that would give you a hell of a spin on a free rappel then started using Bluewater braided which was much better. Did a lot of caving around the San Antonio and Hill Country area, some west Texas stuff at Midnight cave and we mapped some caves south of Monterey Mexico too. It was a great experience to have, turned out we even had a couple of Capital Murderers amongst our group. Nice cave and photography work. Try to stay safe and dry on your adventures.
Wow! That older equipment sounds really sketchy lol! Are you involved in the underground Texas grotto at all these days?
@@scottbauerbelow Man, I'm way to old to bend and contort like that anymore. I was a member of the NSS, TSA and the Alamo Grotto Club of SA. We did some cave rescues and debris clean out on NBC and Cascade Caverns after floods. It was a lot of fun and have some good stories and memories. Kind of curious if some of the old caves I ventured into are still around? Caves like Twin Pits out on Bulverde road, Dead Dear cave near Blanco and 1604, Big Bear and little Bear cave oven in Stone Oak. The last one is still their but has debris and rock clogging the entrance. The City of SA put a marker on it. It's a shame because most of these cave I explored at certain times of the year, at the lower levels, you were sometimes swimming or crawling in the top of the of the Edwards. I know a lot of them have been paved over, built on or trashed filled, they were direct intakes for the aquifer. I have new respect for some of the older members of the club I was in because they were my age now and still mudding. Chuck Steen was at least 60 and was one of the first explorers to help survey NBC after old man Wuest found it. Lots of good times. BTW: Still have my carbide lamp to this day.
Loved the intro !!
Thank you!
Does it need a case to protect waterproof???
I would avoid taking it below 15 or 20 feet with out the underwater housing, I think it is officially rated to 30 feet
