Phenomenally excellent video - ALL these are the very symptoms I have - Plumbing company scheduled for Tuesday in my residential area!! Thank you - I think you've saved my home from further damage and deterioration!!!
Thank you so much amazing video we have same problem and Plumper will come tomorrow morning to check , he told me to turned off Heater and close the water
Easy way to check for hot water leak is to turn off supply to water heater for a few minutes with no faucets running. Turn supply back on and if you hear a "slurping sound" of water coming into the tank then you have a leak.
...also, listen to your drain in the kitchen sink, I heard the vibration in my sewer which led me to all the other clues. Hot area under kitchen tiles, water meter spinning with all taps turned off, and eventually, the biggest water and electricity bill imaginable. A brilliant plumber isolated the pipe run and avoided the need to excavate the slab under a new kitchen. Installed rerouted incoming hot water pipes. Regards from Sydney, Australia.
Hi the weather here has been raining a few days and yesterday I saw water on my vinyl about 8 inches from the window and shower, sink. Weird place and only onto the viynl no leaks in ceiling or wall. My water in the sink pipe has been leaking for sometime however I have a bucket to catch it. This is a doublewide mobile home on a crawl space. I keep drying it up with a towel it re appears same spot. I looked under house didn't hear anything running. The only thing I did different this summer as the bathroom was so hot all the time and humid was use spray foam around my door as the trim is all gone and there is a gap between the wall board and where the trim should be hot air would come thru making that bathroom unbearable! So no more heat in there using the spray foam but I'm wondering if now cooler weather I should remove that foam. Never had this happen before either issue 1 bathroom being super hot 2. Water pooling a little in the middle of the floor. Could the spray foam be the cause? Should I remove it? Just weird. If I remove spray foam will my bathroom go back to being hot? Thanks!
Hi, Thanks for reaching out. That sounds like something we need to look at in person. That's an odd situation and we need trained eyes on it to diagnose it properly. I would recommend contacting a professional to look at it, if you're in our service area we would be more than happy to assist you.
We have a section of the house flooring (concrete slab, no basement) that gets wet (cold water) only after a heavy rain. There's no roof leaks, it's like the rainwater seeping up through the foundation itself. Exterior does not appear to have any visible cracks and water meter doesn't show activity when not using water. What's up?
DBrofi That's a tough one, I have run into a situation like that only once before and believe me the perfectionist in me went nuts trying to figure it out. I spent days at this home on different occasions and consulted with every experienced plumber, plumbing company owner. and engineer I knew. There ended up being no plumbing leak or roof like like in your situation but they did have a large crack in the foundation water would seep through on occasion. This particular home was a corner lot and a bit lower than the street. The area affected was the front living room close to that front corner of the home. We ended up determining the difference in height between the yard outside was the issue and water would seep to the lowest point after heavy saturation outside. We had someone seal the foundation crack very well and the problem went away. It was one of my greatest learning experiences and we never charged the customer anything because there was no plumbing issue and it was a great learning experience. I utilize that story to this day in training the next generation of professionals!
@@matthewblack704 this sounds exactly what's going on with me. I'm on a v Corner house and it's cold water and no other symptoms and its ear the living room in a bedroom next to the front living room not far from the corner and it's on a left corner going down hill last house on the left going down the hill. So this maybe why except it's never been this way before when it has rained but it did get wet starting 2 days ago and it was raining on and off since then but still not a major rain at all. So idk what's going on. The leak is under carpet in a bedroom in one spot and no where else. It's weird
I live in Texas. So our water bill is always in 70-80 dollars a month. But we noticed moist surface on one particular tile which has a crack on it.. few days later I noticed a leak behind my toilet and I fixed it.. the toilet is located a few feet from this tile. I still feel that moist and when I step on another tile I can see water bubbles from home on the grout. Do you think it could be from a bad wax ring ?
Great question! That is common. Usually a warm spot on the floor will alert you to the leak if it's on a hot line even if no water is surfacing. If it's a cold line sometimes the only way you will be alerted is a high water bill. In either case you can follow the steps to check your water meter to see if it's spinning when no one is using water. This still works even if the water isn't surfacing.
Ugh this is going to cost a shit ton I'm sure. I dont have water anywhere outside but in 1 bed room under carpet across the hall from the bathroom theres a wet spot that started a few days ago. It's cold water and that's the only spot it's at. Idk I hope it's not something that's going to cost a lot of money to get taken care of but if it's a slab leak then it will be very expensive.
Ryan Thorpe LOL, I would love to say there's a chance of that but I haven't come accross that just yet in my life. Hope it helped and we do service Norco so please feel free to call, we offer free estimates and often can give you rough prices and options without charging for leak detection.
What about my hous in 4f in the master bedroom I have no idea the water come out from where it from the floor only this time I see leaking and wet on the floor
Water can surface from anywhere through cracks in the concrete slab. So it will show up where there is no plumbing sometimes if there’s a crack in the slab in that area and underground is saturated. I hope this helps.
Great tips. I'm glad to see you are local to me. I have water showing up outside near the kitchen sink and also near the sink on the floor inside. This only happens when I try to drain the sink. The water will run and then eventually back-up on both sides. There doesn't seem to be an actual clog since nothing came up with a snake. My water bill is the same. So does this sound like a drain pipe that's busted? Is that also considered a "slab leak"? To fix this do you need to cut into the slab? Also, do you do camera inspections first to see where the actual leak is? The pipes are old so it could be corroded.
I have a slab leak. Unfortunately, I do not know whether it is coming from the domestic hot water line, or the radiant heat. I had a plumber place a one way valve so that I can use the hot water when necessary. Is it possible to test the system, to see the source?
nitroman58 V It is possible to isolate certain sections of underground pipe. It does depend on how the home was built but in most cases there is a method to determine this.
Can someone answer a question for me? I live in a condo complex, and I hear water running which sounds like it's from another adjoining Unit - I suspect it's a slab leak because all of a sudden my Bathroom floor feels oddly Warm, and when I turn on my Shower, the water is hot right away, as opposed to usually it takes a short while for the water to get warm/hot - now, if the Problem is within the infrastructure of the building that I live in, is it MY responsibility or is the Association's responsibility - and yes, the complex that I reside in has had a history of plumbing problems ~
How long will the slab leak continue after a repipe. ? I just had my hot water line converted to PEX in the attic cause my water line bust. However the leak is still dripping after 5 hours
Hi Nate, That's a great question and it's hard to give you a time frame based on limited information, but what I can say is that one of two things can be happening. First, if the leak was going on for a while before the repair it can take hours or even days for saturated areas to subside. In this case look to see if it is slowing down as you check it periodically. If so it's probably just slowly dissipating. The second reason this could be happening is if you only had the leaking line rerouted and the other old pipes are still in use, you may have a second line leaking or the wrong line was rerouted in the first place. I sincerely hope the second reason isn't the case for you, and I hope this helps.
What if the tile isn't hot but the floor is really damp spot that is coming out from the hole where they had to cut open the wall to find the leak that was causing all this to happen my dad says he's going to be coming over in an bit to check it out
Hi Erin, That is a great question, the floor does not always have to be hot to indicate if you have a slab leak. Infact the hot floor just lets you kow it's a hot water slab leak. If you have a cold water slab leak then you wouldn't have the hot floors as an indicator.
Hi Martha, That is a great question! If the water heater is running constantly it means that you have a hot water line that has a leak and hot water is constantly running so your water heater is trying to constantly produce hot water. This doesn't mean your water heater needs to be replaced, it's just an indicator that you have a hot water leak.
Hi James, water can surface from anywhere through cracks in the concrete slab. So it will show up where there is no plumbing sometimes if there’s a crack in the slab in that area and underground is saturated. I hope this helps.
Is it normal for hall tyle to be luke warm (not hot) after taking a nice, hot bath after a hardday's work, if hot water line runs just under tyle floor? If it is not, then there might be a small leak possibility. However, there are no signs of wetness on tyle surface, drips, tyles disconnecting because of water exposure or any other type of water damage. If it is normal, then hot wire line was placed close to slab's surface, which would be easier for heat to radiate or come up upwardly toward behind or under hall tyles. ????
Montery12 It is possible to get some radiant heating if the hot water line is too close to the surface. This is not very common however, the lines should be deep enough so you don't get any heat radiating. I have personally seen lines poured into or just under concrete slabs that cause this but again it's rare and not the right way.
If you have a slab leak call a plumber for repair, you really have two options when repairing a slab leak, either a direct repair or a reroute. You want to stop the water from leaking to prevent possible water damage and conserve water.
