Don't get me wrong , I love the big budget super home theaters but lets be honest. Most of us will never have the money or room to build those types of HT. This type of setup gets my respect because it's somethings I can relate to as a fellow Home Theater enthusiast. Love the room my friend. 👍

@@justinlaird I always like seeing what others in the relatable budget can and like to do with HT gear. It is like you say the gear is only part of it . Using a room correction software and room acoustic treatment are a couple of things out of a few that can be done to improve sound greatly. My room has a dreaded cathedral ceiling and what a pain it was to tune with Anthem PBK for a good bass response . Even still sitting in the sweet spot then standing yields a 4 db gain so I have to run the subs a tad hot . Like you say we have to make do with what we have l Cheers ☺

The only thing I would do is hang some blackout curtains behind the TV, but since the window is off center I would hang curtains that cover the whole wall for aesthetic reasons. It would also help absorb reflecting sound waves.

Glad I found your video! I'm on the verge of getting a new house and one of the biggest drawbacks is that there's no big space for a home theater. But there are two rooms about 9x11 feet -- the fact that you made it work gives me hope! Thanks!

  • @dinnerfor1540

This is a beautiful home theater space. I think you did an excellent job working within the confines of the space available. Personally I could never afford any of those items (speakers, Oled tv, Valencia seating, etc.) but I have what makes me happy and so do you. At the end of the day that’s all that matters. Honestly I think your setup is way better than most that I’ve seen. The big fully constructed home theater setups I don’t care for simply because I feel they are over the top and ridiculously expensive. Plus those rooms would have to be deconstructed if needed as a different type of space. Yours could pretty easily be turned back into a bedroom if need be. Lastly, some RUclips videos that show home theater setups don’t allow the actual theater to be the “STAR” of the show because they are overly cluttered with decor and movie collections which is a distraction and makes those look cluttered and crowded. Yours looks clean and inviting. Great job! I honestly wouldn’t change a thing.

Finally a room that actually is small, just like mine, mine is 8'x12' with a 6'7" ceiling. I currently have a 49" 4k HDR LG TV , marantz sr7013 a rotel power amp powering my LCR which are mission 704a towers and a monitor audio bronze centre, 2 pairs of mordant short alumni 2 as surrounds and backs, 2 pairs of Sony satalites as my 4 Atmos speakers, and 2 paradigm ps1000v3 subwoofers which have been modded by myself and a 2 seat sofa. People say it's overkill but I love it and it puts a smile on my face every time I watch a movie. Currently out of action due to the dreaded marantz hdmi board failure. Love the video

I love your set up! My wife, & I have a small studio apartment. So we understand about limited space for our home theater. Plus you have the same Sony receiver that we do. I do have a suggestion for your situation. I used the 7.1 set up at first, & it was great. When we went to see Godzilla Vs. Kong at our local theater really blew us away. It was my first time listening to a DTS-X soundtrack. So I changed the receiver's set up to Dolby Atmos/DTS-X format. The difference was huge! We're using the Sony Ss-cse Dolby Atmos speakers as front height speakers. Unfortunately I had to give up the back surround speakers, but using the 5.2.2 set up is a great trade off. Maybe this would help with your side surround speakers for a better position. Also getting another subwoofer. Trust me it makes a huge difference. Again thank you for sharing your setup, & hope to see more from you.

Really nice use of the space. Well thought out and executed. It is a small space and the 7.1 surround Klipsh speakers used is so much more than ample to get tremendous SPL in the room. I would say your equipment is more than capable of getting excellent result in even a much bigger space. I imagine you probably don't have to raise the volume too much to get full bodied sound. Looks like the setup will give you a truly immersive experience. Doesn't look like you need any more equipment to me. All that's left is just to kick back and watch a lot of movies. Great job.

If most of your theater usage is for movies, I would recommend upgrading to used RP-440C or 450C. The RP 404C and 504C are too expensive new and not that much better than last gen. Even in a small room I see nothing wrong with your setup, actually looks really nice and functional. Maybe adding some overhead ceiling mounted speakers along with maybe some darker paint on the walls and/or dark curtains to close while watching a movie. Wish I had a spare room to do this in my house, kinda jealous.

Not bad and very cool setup, so now it starts. Your hooked and your expenses are just starting to let you know.
You will soon be looking to expand to a larger room, more speakers, larger screen, etc… this is how it started for me, taking what I had and started making my own theater room, I got the bug and before I knew it I was so hooked I had spent over 50k and now close to 100k and that is doing it all myself.
Today I have a dedicated home Cinema setup, it is no longer called a home theater but a home cinema. 25’ screen, 13.2.6 setup, rack system, quality theater seats, 2 DBOX seats, the other seats have butt kickers, dedicated building with game room and snack bar.
I still go to the theater with friends, but as soon as I find a way to decode the video files from the major commercial theaters it will end it all together unless I just happen to be out of town and friends and family want to go watch a movie in some hack setup commercial setting. I call them back setups because my setup is so much better than any theater I have seen today. I am working on getting mine moved to a 4D setup to make it that much better.
I know most people cannot get to the point I am at, I landed some great deals on used equipment, learned most of this on my own and reading, videos, etc… not many people want to blow 100k or more just to watch a movie. As I get older and older I find less and less I can do as pain from doing it makes it to painful to do anymore so I spend more time watching movies and spending my time expanding my own.
I don’t know just how much more I can do, I guess I am maxed out on what is available today, just have to wait for the next best thing in Home cinema setups. Already running full IMAX enhanced, Auro-3D, sound, 8K screen.
I love the reaction of people when they walk into the building for the first time, you would not ever expect to walk into a building with no windows except in the game room and those have blinds so you cannot see the actual theater, it looks like a game room with a snack bar with a door leading to another room, then you walk down the hall next to the seating and it opens up into a 25’ screen.
So enjoy these days of starting out, if you get the bug like some of us get, you to will end up with a very nice home theater or maybe a home cinema room.

Man you made it work in a tiny room. My setup is similar, but a 5.2.2 in the spare bedroom, but I have a bit more space. Nice setup!

Awesome setup. Might want to ditch the rear speakers and repurpose them for top middle just throw up a shelf on each side and angle the speakers down to get some atmos action.

It seems like you could definitely fit a 100 inch projection screen in there. Get a really nice Benq HT3550 with that short throw distance and you're set!!

That would be a downgrade actually. Wouldn't trade a 77 inch Oled tv for a pixel shifting projector with a color wheel! At the distance he's sitting in, that tv feel like he's looking at a theater screen!

Yes exactly I have a 46 degree viewing angle right now which is more than thx recommended! The quality of the OLED is so good I feel I would be dissatisfied with anything less than the JVC N7 or the like

The usual rule for best image quality and visual area ( without moving your head from one corner to other to see the faces on extreme ends of the screen) is 10” screen at 1 ft of distance.
If you get a 100 inch screen then your best seat should be 10 feet away from the screen. Please google this info before jumping into a bigger screen.

It's an awesome set up dude, I guess if it was mine, I might use those other 2 channels for Atmos instead of back surround.

My dedicated room is only slightly bigger than yours. Never had the space for a 5/7 seater. In my second iteration, I find myself perfecting the art of the single/double seat “intimate” experience and the image&sound hotspot for an audience of one.
I realized that 95% of the time, I was by myself watching movies so not having a bunch of empty seats around me couldn’t be that bad.
I set up a huge TV in the living room, for when I want to seat 3-7 people and my private-home-cinema is only for me+1.
Managing a wall-to-wall 130” screen and killer audio system in such a small space was nothing short of a balancing act but I got two experts to assist me and I believe it turned out fine.
    :-)

    WOW
Great set up, you have got everything I have in mine, except I have the R52C and using the R51m for sides, and R41m for surrounds, I have a pair of R41m's that i might use for atmos or 4x Polk OM3's and I have the 12in Sub
    Keep up the good work.

Nice job. I'll be facing a similar challenge with a 9'10"x11'3" spare bedroom in a house we're having built. Happily, there is only a single window, and the door swing is confined within an entryway to the side of the room, so I'll have a bit more space to work with.

That's a nice little setup. I'm starting to put together something similar-ish. I've got the sony str-dh590, r-820f towers, r-12sw sub ($229 on amazon right now), and a samsung 60" all just sitting in my office waiting to be used. I still need to get the rear speakers, center speaker and a blue ray/4k player. Klipsch is coming out with an entirely new reference line this month or next...so there will be good deals on the current line if you are looking to change anything up.

My home theater is in a slightly bigger room, so I enjoy seeing other small setups. Aside from adding Atmos speakers (e.g., SVS Prime Elevation speakers you can mount at the top of the wall, rather than the ceiling), my main recommendation would be eliminating (light) reflections in that room. I have an 83-inch Sony A90J in a pitch black room; the first time I blacked out a room with an OLED TV, I knew I could never watch anything any other way. I literally can’t bear to watch stuff for serious viewing if I can see anything other than the screen in the room. You wouldn’t need to do too much work for this room. You can just get blackout curtains for both windows and 2 black velvet backdrops for the side walls. I guarantee you this makes any home theater feel so much more immersive. Also, if you don’t want to add/change subwoofers, you can add a HoverEze or bass shakers so you can feel the impact from the LFE channel. Thanks for sharing your space with us!

Thanks for the video and for showing what can be done in a small room (congratulations).
Do you have measurements made with REW?
It is simple curiosity to see the acoustics of the room.
My advice is if you can put more treatment for the lower frequencies and make the panels thicker, if you can at least 20 cm.

Thanks so much for posting this. This is amazing and in mid-sized homes in India this is the only spare room one can even think of having as an HT. I keep reading that for small rooms 2 subs and floorstanders are overkill and a good 5.1(.2) set up is more than adequate with bookshelf speakers..
How are the volume levels with such high output speakers? Does it get too much / too overwhelming from a practical perspective?
    Thanks again!

I have that same receiver with a 5.2.2 setup and it’s been great. The only thing it’s really lacking is HDMI 2.1
