I have thought for years that LZ needed a rhythm guitarist in the band to add those extra guitar parts for their live shows. Rhythm guitar add the HARMONY needed to support the progressionsions that propel the music. Those parts are on the recordings, but they're impossible for Jimmy to play while playing the lead parts. You can hear how THIN the live recordings are compared to their studio recordings without the other guitar parts.
The best part about this performance is Jimmy Page enjoying himself just as much as he did with Zep in the 70s, a huge compliment to the Crowes themselves. Steve Gorman really channels Bonzo on this one and you can tell Jimmy really enjoys it. It's just like having Bonzo and Jonesy there in person. That is no small feat to accomplish so the Crowes rhythm section can proud of that fact.

There are a lot of comments that are down on the singing of Chris Robinson VS Plant but I think Chris is a great singer and I respect the fact he did his own take on the Zeppelin tunes, you can tell he known the songs but he does not do a Plant impression like a lot of singers would.
Agreed. I mean nobody is gonna sing it as well as Plant......but Chris sang it damn good in my opinion and I'm not the biggest Black Crows fan. As for the guitar work.....this is wonderful.
Go find a live recording back in the zeppelin days that sounds better than this, that would get me doing cartwheels. The 96 version is damn close but Roberts voice is just not what it was in 76, cant hit the highs or hold the notes like he did in his prime. Obviously recording tech come a long way since then, and Chris fucking nails this.

Wow, Page is a master. Physical Graffiti is one of those underrated albums. When I hear the songs, it brings me write back to when I heard the first time. This songs a classic.
Yes i heard some of pre Jimmy's pre studio recording for this song, its amazing how he laired all it down, managed so well to set it together. But also the rhythm section killed it as always. Bonzo and JPJ still are to me the greatest rhythm section in rock n roll. It sounds so natural, organic. Zeppelin, The Who and Yes are the only bands i ve known of that rhythm sections were always feeding from each other instrument in the band rather than following its pattern, brilliant!!
Black Crows and Jimmy Page are banging em out here I can't get enough of em. Everytime I'm on RUclips I'm drawn to listen to this whole wheel of songs. It takes me back three decades in time and only makes me want more. I can't really say I miss Robert Plant except for his young hot body which isn't anymore, but neither is mine, lol!! I'M not too shabby, but besides that Classic Rock And Roll was born in my soul and it's where I'll go when I leave here, where all the musics being blasted... Ill stand in line to hear all the young souls taken from us too soon like Bon Scott, Curt Cobaine, Jimmy Hendrix ext. Ronald Belford Scott was meeting me beyond his grave there for a while, it no way freaked me out at all I loved it all so much I really couldn't get enough of it. My nickname is the Night Prowler we were prowing together there for a while... RIP BON💜
...tunes like this really show how much talent this band has, ..and Jimmy has the freedom not to have to carry the whole load, and it allows him the spirit to flourish in front our our eyes. Thank You for posting this awesome performance... talk about capturing the moment! ...look at the pure joy in Jimmy's eyes at the beginning of the guitar break, (solo) its something to see!
Yes, there have been and are many supergroups, but there is only ONE Led Zeppelin…. which is the greatest band EVER, i.m.o. It goes without saying that ‘Ten Years Gone’ is my favorite Led Zep song, besides ‘The Rain Song,’ as that it has a particular resonance with me in having lost my first love, my true love years ago. For me, though, it would be ‘Forty Years Gone.’ Lord, how I’d loved that woman. I was a fool back then, however, and had driven away a remarkable, kind, and affectionate lady who’d checked off every imaginable check box of positivity that you could ever imagine. As that this song pertains to Robert choosing music over the love of his life, ten years past, the melancholy lyrics and sad wailing of Jimmy’s guitar, along with Jonesy’s and Bonzo’s contributions, really tug at my heart strings whenever I hear this song. It’s not true when they say that it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all, especially when it regards a classy, beautiful, and extraordinary lady such as she. Although, in having said that, listening to Zep takes me back to those youthful days when I’d run 8 to 10 miles a day, listening to Zeppelin the entire time on my Sony Walkman. On one occasion, I was running during a cool night with fog rising up all around and surrounding me as I’d listened to ‘No Quarter.’ That was such an atmospheric and surreal run for me, with the moody, menacing, and moving music and lyrics being perfectly complimented by the wall of fog which had risen up all around me. The next song which came blasting through my sweaty headphones was the ‘Immigrant Song,’ another song which was perfectly enhanced by the ocean of rolling fog, as well. Long live Led-Zeppelin and those who are their inspired, loyal, and fanatical fans. Thank you for posting this , amazing, animated, and aspiring performance. Mind blown! 🤯
A truly powerful song ,and IMO one of two ( In the Light) that really benefited by having the full compliment of multi tracked guitar parts played live. It's a shame that Jimmy's collaboration with the Black Crows couldn't have lasted abit longer.
Yes was there too its on cd . Jones Beach NY on video and North Carolina Were the best 3 concerts of the black crowds/ Jimmy page concerts. Check em out shame the tour ended too soon
The crowes have attempted recently to follow more a jamband strategy. I noticed you mentioned in 01 the crowes had an opening act. I wonder if since then the crows followed the trail the dead created long ago and dropped opening act and went to a 2set formula with no help?
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 phish wisely used the deads formula identically with evrything except their sound. And recently so many others have attempted same trail. Give weir and garcia immense credit for building a product that was exempt from the industry crisis of the internet's creation. A crisis that rapidly dismantled an entire gandra of music. In fact the internet destroyed the most important and successful art in american and possibly world history. Rock and roll was dealt the most tragic blow imaginable. A blow that tugged directly at its heartstrings. Money!!! Money is what was behind all of it. Money was the core of it all!!! Why else would a record label or band invest fortunes into ultra expensive studio time and production costs as well as massive time investment by not only band but also a full team of top earning specialists necessary to complete recording? massive investment that always had risk of failure but also had endless payoff potential. It's not a matter of industry mysteriously and suddenly losing all its talent. It's a matter of by taking away the money, entrenched artists being forced out and new artists no hope whatsoever. The dead however worked the opposite side of industry. The live side that before internet was much less profitable than records and much much more work. But quickly the internet turned that ship around and suddenly the only money left in rock is live shows. And those artists who wisely followed the golden road paved by the dead are rapidly becoming rocks only viable bands. You mentioned phish. Same can be said of dave mathews. And dead and co are easily the top 3earning acts in rock today. And even smaller acts such as widespread panic and string cheese incident and many others have become much more viable and have much more upside than most all other rock acts. The stones and a few others wont last long but phish and dave will!!!!
I don’t know, I like Robert plant a lot but i think Chris Robinson is tied vocal talent wise, I mean plant can hit those high notes a lot better but chris Robinson’s voice has more body and is more so influenced by soul music. I like his version of this equally to the original. I could never say I liked Chris Robinson’s voice more but I think equal is an arguable position.
@@Otis-Isom- I think Robert's voice has more body as he gets older and his range lowers. I think it's only when he really strains himself on songs when he sounds thin, but that's nowadays. Robinson definitely took notes from Rod Stewart though, great voice.
As much as I love Robert Plant, he wasn't consistently hitting his old range even before the band had to break up. So it's just as valid for any halfway decent performer to hit pretty much all the notes Plant himself is capable of hitting at the point in time of this video

I was honored to see the Hollywood Bowl show. Amazing!
This guitar track has so many different elements - several songs in one. From gentle otherworldliness to hard rock riffs and back again. Genius 🎸
RIP BON💜
Jimmy passion to play this live is beautiful you can see it perfectly.
I have watched this at least 50 times it NEVER gets old!
It's 2020 and this is the first time I found out that this even happened.
Jimmy surprised me how well he played that solo. That sounded just like the record.
It helps that he seems to be clean and sober here and just enjoying the music.
No it didn’t. I mean, it was close, and in the general area of the solo on the album, but it was the typical Pagey live solo.
@@MisterTMHAbsolutely...Jimmy is one of the greats still kicking. Hope he does a few things like this again if he can before it's the curtains.
I had no idea how good Rich Robinson & the other guitar player were until I saw this. Nice backing band.
The other guitar player is Audley Freed. Got a good gig with Cheryl Crow but check the first two Cry of Love records if you really wanna hear Audley.
Speechless one beautiful rendition
What a GENIUS Jimmy is, Amazing!
2:49 - Just beautifully done
Always my favorite part of the song
...tunes like this really show how much talent this band has, ..and Jimmy has the freedom not to have to carry the whole load, and it allows him the spirit to flourish in front our our eyes.
Mind blown! 🤯
one of the best Zeppelin songs on any album EVER!
Wow - Jimmy Page hasn't lost a step - still the master for sure... Great combination he is with the Robinson brothers... Thank you all!!!
Still get goosebumps listening to this video at 2:50.
That riff and change is the sweet spot
It really is the greatest solo ever recorded in my opinion.
@@nverga Totally agree. It's understated and perfectly transmits his emotion.
A truly powerful song ,and IMO one of two ( In the Light) that really benefited by having the full compliment of multi tracked guitar parts played live. It's a shame that Jimmy's collaboration with the Black Crows couldn't have lasted abit longer.
4:03 pure magic...This is incredible!
A masterpiece..good job here..30 yrs gone since I first heard this
Page is awesome.
Se finisco in una Isola deserta con la possibilità di ascoltare la musica --- sono LZ prescelti. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Man... this God's sound is the absolute 🔥. He is still the best.
So glad I saw this tour, Camden/Philly - Jimmy IS legend
Such an under appreciated song, this version is especially heavy-awesome!
I got to see Jimmy Page with the Black Crowes in Camden NJ back in 2001. It was amazing and Kenny Wayne opened for them!!!
Yes was there too its on cd . Jones Beach NY on video and North Carolina Were the best 3 concerts of the black crowds/ Jimmy page concerts. Check em out shame the tour ended too soon
NC on cd all 3 performances stellar quality
The crowes have attempted recently to follow more a jamband strategy. I noticed you mentioned in 01 the crowes had an opening act. I wonder if since then the crows followed the trail the dead created long ago and dropped opening act and went to a 2set formula with no help?
@@iomibestlefty phish does that too. To great effect
Chris Robinson does a great job on vocals, but just imagine what it would've been like with old Percy singing...
@@Otis-Isom no sir. Stop it.his voice is no match. Not an inkling pal.
@@harryrobinson1114 well whats your argument for that point. at least on technical level they’re tied and everything after that is subjective.
I got to see Jimmy page and The Black Crowes in concert and it was incredible… We were in the seventh row center and it was awe inspiring… I’ve seen Led Zeppelin at least three or four times, page plant, etc. etc. but this was something really special to behold… What a wonderful song, one of my favorites from the amazing Led Zeppelin catalog…❤️🎼🙏
I remember listening to this song back in 1998 when I was 14, we used to play Magic the gathering cards and Diablo I with friends, this song brings the memories back
Man oh Man. That was an awesome performance!
my favorite of theirs...even over stairway.
Page is definitely one of the best song writers ever!
✌️😎🎸🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Thank god there was a Led Zeppelin, just think of rock and roll without them. They ruled the world from 70-78, everyone waiting for the next album. Never a disappointment. Would we even have the Black Crows or many other bands, if they never were?
They did real good here!
