    Zep just so many amazing, powerful tunes that always sound cool even when covered by other bands. Page is a genius. BTW, Zep bootlegs between 69-73 demonstrate how badass Zep was live, and in that era Page could really carry a 3 hour show. Two things stand out here, the quality of the recording (outstanding) and the drummer, Wow. He is powerful and rock solid. At first, I was kind of scratching my head about the 3 guitar lineup and I'm sure they talked about it a lot. However, after listening to a few live tracks its clear they sound more like the album tracks because they can produce more guitar parts. I think it is powerful and sounds pretty damn good.

    You know, I really loved these guys, but this performance showed me exactly how much the Robinson Bros. are going to miss Steve Gorman on this next tour. A fantastic and very underrated drummer who deserved better than he got from those cats. I can see why Page liked him so much. Steve was solid as a rock. The bros. (I can not call them "The Black Crowes" at this point) are playing my hometown of Salt Lake City In the summer of 2020 and I will not be attending, nor will I attend any future shows. Without the man who was the driving force on the drum kit for twenty seven years, it is just nothing more than a nostalgia trip, with two guys and some hired mercenaries. I'd rather indulge in my Black Crowes nostalgia by listening to Three Snakes or Southern Harmony and hear the band the way they were in their glory days. With Steve and with old, weird Ed Harsch (R.I.P).

      There were many shows where Led Zeppelin sounded amazingly better than anyone else, but on some of their shows, there were people screwing with their equipment. There was a music war going on back then. Have you ever seen videos where Jimmy is squinting while trying to play a solo? It's because he realized that someone screwed with his settings and he was struggling to get the sounds out of his guitar. NOBODY sounds good if the amp settings are not right. I don't care who it is!

    • @guitarttimman
      @guitarttimman 7 лет назад +3

      They only need Jimmy. The '73 concert and how the west was won shows proves that. Let me screw with anyone's amp settings and I can cause them not to sound good. Take Joe Satriani and let me mess up his amp settings. As great as he is, he'd sound like shit and people would be saying he sucks. The settings makes or breaks the show!

    This is far and beyond my absolute favorite DMB song!! And being a longtime avid fan of their music since I first heard them on the radio back in the early nineties and love every single song I have heard, this song for some reason has always struck me musically as well as lyrically. The music, the melody and the rhythm are impressive to me as a musician and those lyrics have such a profound meaning to me because I grew up in a very fervently conservative Southern Baptist family and in a small rural town in northeast Arkansas and I never could make myself believe in any of those divisive and demeaning religious notions about folks who I knew were kind, loving, caring, and compassionate people who were always being treated like they were demonic and deserved eternal torture for the simple reason of just being who they were. And that unjustified and blind hatred never made sense to me.
    Long story short, when Dave sings that third verse about coming up with his own god and throwing his own tea party, that went straight to my inner core of basic human decency and morality.
    Long Live DMB!!

    Well if Zep's no more, at least it's children are still keepin' the flame alive with riff master Page. A great collaboration to show once again how timeless all those Zeppelin songs are.

    During his early drumming days in A Way Of Life and Band Of Joy, he played on a Super Classic four piece Ludwig kit in Sparkle Green (Ludwig finish number 2004). It had the following specifications:
    13x9inch Tom
    16x16inch x2 Floor Toms
    22x14inch Bass Drum
    Led Zeppelin toured the US from December 1968 until the spring of 1969 often playing on the same bill as the psychedelic rock band Vanilla Fudge, whose drummer Carmine Appice used two gigantic 26inch Ludwig bass drums. This setup clearly had an impact on Bonzo, who soon after securing an endorsement deal with Ludwig in 1968, ordered two 26x14inch bass drums, a 22inch bass drum with specially adapted metal rims fitted for use as a huge floor tom, a 18x16inch floor tom and a 15x12inch marching tenor drum to be used as the small tom.

    I was kind of expecting this to suck cause the Crows are so erratic, but this was spot-on, fantastic! If any band should cover this, this is the one!

      yeah, I saw them at Donnington in 91 and they were all over the place. I was 15 and assumed the singer was drunk. Maybe I could see more artistic license in my older age, but back then if it was too loose and way off the studio recording I was upset.
