    Love this video. Just found you. Something I've started to do is:
    1. Put my iPhone on a Ring light. Film my videos/podcast.
    2. Connect my podcast mic with a tabletop stand (A USB MIC) to my iPhone using an iPhone USB adapter.
    3. And get a pair of headphones.
    THAT'S IT!
    This allows the audio to be superb but also get really slick video as well. An iPhone video is better than any webcam, and close to but not as good as a DLSR, which I have two of. I just don't use anymore because the iPhone can be used in connection with a teleprompter app.

      Hey! Glad you found this channel. That sounds like a simple, but legit set up! I just picked up one of the USB to lighting adapters for a class I was teaching to record directly into an iPad. Those particular adapters are hard to come by now (I had to order directly from Apple's website or pick up in store). But if you can find one they work really well.

    I started with voice memos in my iPhone, then I got a USB mic (Samson Q2U) and plugged that into my MacBook Pro and recorded into Garage Band, I’ve got Rode Wireless Go 2 microphones that I use with a guest and record video as well both with my iPhone but still playing with that. I’ve got 2 spaces at home where I record. 1 is a bedroom sized home office, the 2nd is my fitness studio/lounge room and a 3rd is not converted yet but is a converted carport all built out into an artist studio. I’m going to repaint, get some rugs and am thinking of doing a multi person podcast so will probably get a Rodecaster Pro 2, plus two new USB/XLR mics (maybe more Samson Q2U’s) plus I need a set of headphones as the ‘producer’ with headphones for my co-host and guest/s. I had a one person podcast but now am collaborating with my new co-host to interview people. We are so excited, but want to get the planning done well so that we know what we’re all about and don’t run out of ideas! I want this podcast to last longer than 3 episodes!

      I love the flexibility you have to be able to record in multiple place! Also, the RCP II is a solid choice, but I would suggest picking up a couple XLR mics for it rather than USB or USB/XLR combo mics. You will have more XLR inputs with that board.

      I like to talk, but I don’t want to limit myself to just one subject. It’s about a little of everything that interests me. @@OgDj2024 While having a broad range of topics and not limiting yourself sounds reasonable, it actually can work against you as a podcast host. I would encourage you to narrow your focus a little more... at least until you can establish an audience that connects more with you as the host than the topic of the episode. Or at least find a way come at these topics from a specific angle. That helps to build consistency and authority in a certain area up front that can then spill over into other topics as you grow. Great channel and content! I'm a huge gearhead, so this video is right up my alley. I'm currently using the exact same mic and boom arm setup as yours: the PreSonus PD-70 and the Blue Compass and a RØDE PodMic as a backup/guest mic. I really deliberated on the mixing desk/audio interface decision between the RØDECaster Pro and the TASCAM Mixcast 4, but ended up landing on the Mixcast. I'm considering adding the king-daddy of broadcast mics into my setup next: the Shure SM7B.

    • @SummitCityStudios
      @SummitCityStudios  2 года назад +1

      I went with the Rødecaster because that’s what I was familiar with from a previous setup I’ve used elsewhere. The Mixcast looks like a pretty similar board. Good features? And I can’t wait to get my hands on a Shure SM7B. Someday… 🙂

    • @NateNakao
      @NateNakao 2 года назад

      @@SummitCityStudios Ultimately my decision came down to media versatility and ease of use with the SM7B if I ever get one. The extra gain means I can hold off on getting something like the Cloudlifter, and the SD card reader (as opposed to the microSD card reader on the RØDECaster Pro) means I don't need to buy all new storage media.

      Overall though, it was a tough decision as the RØDECaster had quite a few features I was interested in.

    • @SummitCityStudios
      @SummitCityStudios  2 года назад +1

      Hey! Glad it was helpful!
      One recommendation I would make for a mixer on a budget would be the Behringer XENYX Q802USB (amzn.to/3JxYCPj). I used a very similar Behringer mixer when I started. This one offers phantom power for condenser mics if you have one and also serves as a USB interface to either record directly into your computer or transfer files easily.
      However, if you think you might be doing this awhile I would also recommend the Zoom PodTrak P4 (amzn.to/35281iZ). It offers a lot of the same podcast specific features as the RodeCaster Pro at a fraction of the price including 4 XLR mic inputs, 4 separate headphone outputs, individual gain control, display screen to visually monitor audio levels, and 4 sound pads for any pre-recorded content you might want to add (intros, outros, ads, sound effects, etc.).
      I'd love to know what you end up going with.

    Great tutorial! Thanks, Brian! I host a web radio show on a college radio station and occasionally want/need to be able to record from home rather than at the station. I have a nice USB mic (Samson C01UPro) for home use with a shock mount and boom. I'll probably upgrade to a dynamic XLR mic. What I need to sort out is how to record audio from my computer like MP3 files via Media Player or Spotify in real time while recording my voice or a guest. Will the RODECaster allow me to do that?

    • @SummitCityStudios
      @SummitCityStudios  2 года назад +2

      Hey Bruce! Glad it was helpful. The Rodecaster can definitely do that. There are 4 XLR inputs along with separate bluetooth, AUX and USB inputs as well. The USB would likely be the best option to record from your computer. However, depending on what the need is, you can also program the sound pads with up to 16 different sounds so they are there and ready when you need them.

      The RCP is what I'm most familiar with but I like a few of the options Zoom has to offer. The Zoom H5 has 2 XLR inputs built in with an option to add 2 more. It's pretty versatile and runs about $280-$300. Another good option I'm looking at for someone is the Zoom Podtrack P4. Similar capabilities as the RCP without all the extra bells and whistles and much smaller for around $200.

      The main camera I use for these videos is the Canon M50. The overhead shot in the last segment was shot on a Canon 80D I recently picked up. As far as syncing the audio and video, I could run it directly out of the Rodcaster pro into my camera but prefer to do it manually so I can edit the audio track separately before syncing. Then it's a matter of lining up the wave forms of the audio during the editing process. A loud clap before you start talking will create a good spike in the audio that can help line it up. Maybe I'll do a video on that soon.

    I'm confused. You didn't have anything hooked up to your computer. Where is your audio going? Do you have a different computer off-screen? I can understand that the camera records to an SD card, which you later download to your editing software, but then you have to sync up your audio and I don't see where your audio is going? I've been trying to do this by recording my audio through a Vocaster2 into my macbook and the audio is sooooo quiet. I can't seem to get a normal audio output. I've now purchased two different microphones (ATR2100x and a FocusRite) and the Vocaster2 and am starting to think it's the macbook, which is why I'm curious about where your audio is going. I use a Sennheiser mke400 for run&gun and studio. Cheap ($200), compact and good quality.
      For voice over and other vocals I use Lewitt 440. One of the best in price performance. ($250)

      @flippersnyder 8 месяцев назад +2

      If he didnt have the beard it wouldn't have been as bad. The mic was rubbing in his beard, plus that would change the audio a touch. If you got a laveliar or boom headset, it would have been much better. Not any different in price.

    • @SummitCityStudios
      @SummitCityStudios  8 месяцев назад +2

      Appreciate your input. I am not familiar with the Lewitt mic but sounds like I may have to check it out. My honest take on audio quality vs what is being said... I do agree that to have a chance your audio has to be quality. But that's not usually why people pod fade before hitting that 10th episode. It's usually more so because they find it more difficult than they expected or they don't have as much to say as they thought they did. So anymore, my advice for new podcasters (hobbyists anyway) to focus on their content first and pic up a mic that fits within their budget to get started. Hopefully it's more than earbuds, but if that's what they have, it's at least possible to get started.

      @flippersnyder Ha! The beard has definitely caused some issues for sure with some of these mic tests :)

    For 100 dollars you could get a Razer Seiren mini, 20 dollar Sony headphones and a boom arm and record with audacity lmao

      Right on. There are a lot of options you could go with for sure. Have you used the Razer Seiren mini? I've seen those but have not used one. They look like handy little mics. I'm curious about the quality of the sound.

      @@SummitCityStudios yes, i actually own one and use it for my botique little podcast. The Audio quality is actually amazing, i doubt that it can be matches at the price. The only con for me is tgat it's a condenser mic, so it's really sensitive
