- Tesla released the refresh Model 3 some time ago. With its official roll out globally, there was one model noticeably absent, and that was the Performance Model 3. While the Model 3 RWD and LR AWD have been selling here in North America for a few months now, there has been little to no talk from Tesla on the status or certainty of the Performance Model 3.
That all said, there was really no doubt that we would see the Performance Model 3 come back, it was just a matter of time and details. There were questions around how this refresh Model 3 Performance would pan out on paper though as there are unknowns about how it will compare to the previous generation.
All these questions have finally been answered, and without any notice, you can now order, and within a couple weeks, take delivery of a brand new refresh Model 3 Performance. With an order window of a month, it would seem Tesla will be shipping these Performance models quickly as they start to ramp production.
The return of the Performance Model 3 will come with some new updates beyond the standard refresh that we have seen with the Model 3 RWD and LR AWD. In addition to the normal updates, this performance model will come with carbon fiber inserts, new forged wheels, upgraded suspension and chassis, brand new performance seats, front and rear performance facia, and more.
From a performance perspective, we are looking at 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, 510 hp, 163 MPH top speed and a range of 296 miles. This makes the new Performance Model 3 faster than ever, and will come with the new comfort features like cooled seats and second screen for rear passengers.
Quite possibly the best part of the refresh Model 3 Performance is the price. Coming in at $52,990, the standard price is in the ballpark of what we had hoped for. Since the batteries are still compliant, that price makes the Performance Model 3 EV Tax Credit eligible, meaning it qualifies for the full $7,500 tax credit. Given you can get this at point of sale, the demand for this model is likely to be strong, but it also creates an awkward condition for the rest of the Model 3 lineup.
In fact, the Performance Model 3 is over $2k CHEAPER than the LR AWD, and only $6,500 more than the RWD. This is a ton more car for this kind of price difference, and it makes the LR AWD very limited in desirability, and the RWD is likely to lose some demand also.
What comes next is what matters the most, and it is the challenge Tesla has with the refresh Model 3 lineup from the start. With tax credit eligibility lost on the other 2 trims, Tesla is only pulling through demand for the refresh features only, as the Model Y is cheaper than the Model 3 because of tax credit eligibility.
I think it is likely that we could see the Model 3 RWD and LR AWD become tax credit eligible in the near future, and that will finally make the pricing make more sense for these other options before the official release of the refresh Model Y.
One thing is for sure, and that is that the Model 3 Performance is going to be a very popular car given the price and performance specs.

I think it was mentioned but yea this doesn’t wow many to the point where I’m like yea I’m going to purchase but does this entice I can see new buyers considering the M3LR. It just makes sense to do the performance if they are eligible for the tax credit. Great video and welcome new buyers to the Tesla community. I just wish my car wasn’t $50,990 when I brought it during the peak as I would’ve considered this if I didn’t buy mine 😂

I'm glad the M3P is cheaper than expected but I feel like they're working around that fed tax credit that's for sure. The fact that the white interior is $1,500 makes the options all no that much as stated in the video. I feel like the M3P should've been $58K with out the tax credit unless you lease it. This would make it on par with the M3LR but Telsa knew if they did that that no one would get it as you could get a MYP for a lot cheaper at $51K prior to the tax credit. The fact that an SUV is cheaper than a sedan is strange though as you do indeed get more car for your money with the MYP. Either way the Telsa M3 and MY are more affordable EV offerings. To get a 2.9 sec small sedan at $45K is unheard of.
MYP is a last year product. Guarantee the Juniper price will go up. But of course they buily M3P to a pricepoint for credit. Its exactly why i bought it.

@@grouponful Tesla does not give extra incentives for newly released vehicles. The new Model 3 (RWD & LR) have been out in the US for 3-4 months now and has not seen any new discounts, incentives, referral qualifications, etc so the Model 3 Performance won't see anything either. It will probably take several months for demand to go lower and inventory builds for them to offer some sort of incentive or discount.

White interior has never been free. White exterior was free for like 3 years. It was black before that. So maybe in a few years they will cycle again
If you sign the tax credit over to Tesla at time of purchase, do you get the full $7,500 regardless of having the tax liability or not?

Agree. Keep in mind white interior on the refresh model 3's is not being delivered yet, so black interior and a color of your choice would surely be the quickest to have it your driveway.

The argument of why I would buy a model 3 if I could get the y for less makes no sense. It’s almost like saying why would you buy a corvette if you can get a suburban for less? The right argument is model 3 performance vs model s plaid. Make sense?
Agreed. People are acting like the 3 and Y are the same car. They’re not. The Model 3 has a lower center of gravity and better handling.
No, not the same because plaid is $90k vs $45k, they are 2 very different cars. 3 and Y share a lot of components, minus refresh of course. If you are looking at a 3, your likely considering a Y also and vice a versa
Yes and no. I ordered the model 3 performance but I was looking into the model y because it’s cheaper with similar stats. Model y right now has 0.99% interest rate. But since it’s a refresh you can compare it to the model s plaid. But if you go strictly on money then model y vs 3 is the right way to do it.
