    New Zealander here.
I'm a big-time hockey fan and I want to tell Edmonton a story.
That story was of a country that was up 8-1 in a sports contest, only needing to win 1 more match to win the trophy.
That country then had the "mother of all chokes" and ended up losing 9-8.
The country was New Zealand and the contest was the America's Cup (yachting) in 2013.
We then licked our wounds, came back and went on to win the Cup in 2017.
Edmonton - you can come back too, and even better than we did.

Not as tough as rugby (union) or rugby league - both of which are tougher than American Football (which pussies play using PADS!) Anyway - some yacht-races use guys called "grinders" to trim the sails - look up "grinders" and "sailing" on RUclips and you'll see how tough that is.
How tough is rugby? One of the All Blacks' few losses was in a legendary game against France in Nantes (the "Battle of Nantes").
The All Black captain - "Buck" Shelford - had his scrotum torn open. Went off, had it stitched up and WENT BACK ON!
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buck_Shelford
Now THAT is toughness - I'm betting no American Football player has done that........ :)

Anyone who follows this team, knows this. It's in his blood. He really doesn't give a f**k about personal trophies. He was a captain, with his teammates.
Seeing him wait for each Oiler to get off the ice. The way he interacted with Perry, who likely just played his last game. Anyone who thinks he's a sore loser, or bitter, well......... you don't know s**t about this guy.
In any case, love Paul Maurice, and like in 06 when Doug Weight being on Carolina numbed the loss a bit, seeing Maurice get his first cup, and his shoutout to his family, does the same. Congrats, Maurice. It was long, long overdue. 🍻👋

    Been there, done that…
This series brought back memories. The oilers were swept by the NY Islanders 4-0 in 1983… I was 12 years old then. It was the Islanders 4th straight cup. We were devastated. Then in 1984 the Oilers won their first cup in game 5 against the same NY Islanders team. The 1984 stanley cup signalled the end of the 8th NHL dynasty… and the emergence of the 9th… It was an incredible time to be an Oilers fan. This 2024 Oilers team played better than the 1983 Oilers in the final and in games 4-6… dare I say they looked even better than the 1984 Oilers…
If they can stick together as a team they can definitely win the 2025 Stanley Cup next year before McDavid moves on as a free agent.
    Cheers!

Oh my gosh. You are the BEST. Thank you for being fair and at least not mean to either team. This is the best summary of the finals I’ve heard so far. It hits the right tone. Funny but still fair in your analysis of what happened and I love the ending. With the music too… I am an Oilers fan and I got emotional watching the end of this video mostly because of the music and the footage you showed. It hurts but Oilers fans we are so proud of our team, our city, and to represent Canada this year.

As a Panthers fan, what a valiant effort by the Oilers, incredibly impressive display trying to stay alive and extend this series as far as it possibly can. McDavid will get his ring eventually. He and the Oilers have that experience and I think they can do what the Panthers just did.
But man, I am so happy my team came out of this alive, I can forget about the past 3 games and relish in our first ever cup win. No one can take it away from us, no matter how much Canadians and hockey “purists” think we don’t deserve it. Looking back at our opponents throughout the playoffs, we deserved this more than anybody I believe.

Completely agree. Bouchard’s defensive play sucked hard and ok so he has a 95mph blue line slap shot but so what? I only saw one of those go in the entire playoff run. And Drisaital was less than useless. Although to me it looked like maybe he was playing hurt?
And is McDavid really being compared to Gretzky? All I saw out of him was a bunch of fancy dance skating and zero offense.
The Oilers played the same as when they lost to Vegas. Boring.

watch the Jean Sebastian Giguere clip from 2003 coming out to accept the Conn Smyth trophy. The hardest and saddest moments I've ever witnessed in playoff hockey history. Not an easy thing to do, especially in defeat. Even Ron Hextall who also won the Conn Smyth trophy admitted it being the hardest moment in his career. McDavid was in the same boat; he is deserving of the award and the reason for the Oilers getting as far as they did.

McDavid should NOT be the Captain... he plays too much showing off his skills when Urgent and the Winning is more Important. Kane or Draisaitl should be the Captain. Oilers status right now is like having Lemieux/Jagr and Gretzky/Messier duos but without a Cup. Lemieux/Messier being Draisaitl.😊

You can give all the excuses to McSoreloser you want, you don't disrespect the league and your fans like that while making 12.5 a season. The Oilers can never be a deep team with the albatross contracts they have. These 9+ million dollar contracts are not sustainable and will handicap team building in the future.
You gotta teach kids how to lose gracefully when you're the face of the NHL. Poor example, I don't buy the "because he's a leader bs".

I'm worried for McDavid's mental health 😢 Having so much pressure put on anyone at such a young age and everyone harping on you when there is a chance or not. I think anyone would crumble and the fact that McDavid keeps on going, most great men wouldn't be able to believe. I watch the game and the Panthers played aggressive game and adelaide the puck a little bit too much.😅 I understand they were killing time to give less opportunities. That was one strategy that won them the cup. It's very interesting now that the Victor's doesn't always write full history anymore. We have different viewpoints and opinions throughout the globe. 👏
