- OK Guys, there's been a little bit of an update since my earlier video today.. Arber Xhekaj will NOT receive a suspension from the NHL for his actions on Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Instead he gets a fine, which is a little bit of a shock for many. Let's chat about it.

If the zebras got the call right and tossed Pare then Arber wouldn't have went after him. I think the department of player safety may have realized that and that may have been a factor for Arber not getting suspended. The boys in the room probably passed a hat around to pay for the fine as well.

When I first saw the play I thought it was probably accidental. But after seeing the screenshot of when Pare's EXTENDED knee makes contact with the SIDE of Laine's knee, AND I watched the replay in slow mo a few times, I noticed that Pare doesn't go for the puck at ALL even though it was WELL in reach of his stick. It looked fairly obvious that when he saw Laine was gonna enter the zone that he stopped his backwards motion and planted himself in his spot and waited for Laine to try to go around him. Like I said. He DOESN'T even look at the puck! Should've been a penalty on that play for sure. And that's why Arber was so fired up about.
That’s bs and you 1000% know it lol. No matter what Arber is without a doubt going after him no matter the call. Mtl fans are utterly delusional when it comes to this kind of stuff the bias is insane. He was gonna try and fight or injure him no matter what that’s just what he does.

Even if some fans think it wasn't intentional he still should have been tossed as the refs should have known some sort of retribution was coming. Doesn't matter what team or who enforces it, when a plug takes out a star player the 'code' kicks in and retaliation is coming. If you ever played hockey or understand the culture it was clear someone was going to go after Pare. The refs blew it, plain and simple.

The refs rarely penalyse the team playing the Canadiens when obviously it was dangerous for the Canadien player. If nobody tells the ref [or ask them to do their job fairly] than other teams will keep on going and we'll never get out of the injury bug.
This isn't the first time it happens so all and all, we'll always at one point or another have more injuries.

I might also add in that any punishment that Paré might have earned would not be enforceable in the AHL or the ECHL, wherever he is going to play. This may also have been a factor.

Ok how? Laine was entering the zone in a wide stance trying to squeeze a narrow gap between two defenders and got the wrong end of a knee on knee collision. If you know anything about knee on knee collisions it’s that they can go either way for either person involved. You are using an emotional argument.

@@soccermomxd5774 This part is debatable, but what I see is a penalty killer doing his job by standing up at the line attempting to prevent/slow down the opposing player by putting his body on the line. People are only up in arms because it was Laine. If it was someone like Pare, then everyone would shrug it off and say the knee on knee contact was not purposeful and is an unfortunate play which it was. No player in their right mind would risk their own knee to injure somebody else’s knee😂

According to leaf fans and Habs haters it’s perfectly fine to stick out your leg and take out their knee. Would love to see their reactions if Matthews or Marner got taken out in same fashion from an AHL plug in pre season.

@stevenst6337 he just shifted his weight. Laine tried to skate thru him in the same wide stance. He didn't stick his knee out his foot was already planted. To throw a hit you have to shift your weight. It was an unintentional hit to the knee. And if you're really hoping that matthews or anyone will suffer the same injury then you're just beyond hope.

I think the reason he didn't get suspended was because they (NHL) knew the officiating (Refs) completely missed the mark with no call on Pare for the knee. If they had called it, Xhekaj wouldn't have been in that position to retaliate. What's actually with the "dept of player safety" anyway? Been this way for years now. Regardless the whole thing sucks imo. GHG

Arber escaped suspension because the league recognized that the refs not punishing Pare meant someone had too. Maybe if they gave Pare the game or at least a major penalty, the tension could have subsided a little.
Xhekaj Suspended? Fuck no, the fine was plenty.
Paré Suspended? Fuck yeah, but it's pointless since he wouldn't make their team anyway.
The big blame comes to the Referees who did not call a penalty for the knee-to-knee hit. If they did, maybe Arber does not have to do what he did.
What's the point of suspending him? He might get one more preseason game and its back to the beer leagues for him. At least he has a story: "Yeah, I got to play in the NHL preseason once. I took out a world class player with a knee on knee and ruined his season before it even started. Ref didn't say a fucking word. Then when the big fighter came after me, I cowered but he caught up to me and pounded me into the ice. The joke is on him though because he got 27 penalty minutes and a fine from the league." He could be telling that story for the rest of his career as a retail shoe salesman.
The refs completely missed the assignment in that game. All they had to do was make the call on the play and send the kid packing for the knee and referring him to the league for further discipline. It's at best careless and at worse a deliberate attempt to injure.
It was the non call that pissed off our boy Xhekaj it was probably another reason he wasn't suspended the refs lost control of the game at that point and the fans are pissed about the refs being out to lunch on the play.

I must admit that I really like Xhekaj. He keeps opponents honest and is a good player also. I would like if they paired him with that 18 year old Hudson who looks quite promising. Opponents will think twice before giving the kid cheap shots while the sheriff is on the ice with him. I also enjoy your videos. You’re smart and you get me laughing. Stay well.

The NHL couldn't suspend Paré because he likely will never play in the NHL, therefore it didn't make sense to suspend Xhekaj for retaliating against, essentially, a ghost. But now Xhekaj has a "prior" on his resume, which means next time he crosses a line, he's getting suspended as a repeat offender.

My TOTs are dat... I still think the referees are at fault here. They should have penalized Pare, maybe game misconducted him. Problem solved. He could bring his sorry ass back to the beer league and get a job at a department store selling out-of-style shoes to old gentlemen, knowing that he blew his shot... So, if you are saying players can't beat up the refs when they fuck up (instead of the other team, you know to "police the game"), then maybe player's safety should investigate them when they do. In this case, maybe ask the ref a question like, "How can you be so stupid that you don't penalize someone for extending the knee and taking out another player, especially one who was probably going to turn some profit for the capitalists in charge of this shit show?" You know, something professional like that.
Refs get disciplined, just not in public. They are also humans and get crap pay and all sorts of abuse.

I don't normally comment, but as a blue jackets fan who stumbled upon the channel, I just wanted Laine to find a new home in Montreal and have a good season. I feel terrible for him and wish him a speedy recovery.
I think he didn’t get suspended cause he’s not going to make the NHL roster anyway, and there would be no way to enforce the suspension in the junior league.

This couldve easily been another Steve Moore incident. Theres no place for this in todays game. He shouldve been suspended for atleast 20 games. Hockeys not "tough" like that anymore.

Oh please...I watched that Bertuzzi incident game when it happened, I was living in CO then...Todd Bertuzzi snuck up on Moore and caught him from behind then tackled him and pushed his face into the ice. Pare knew Xhekaj was coming and tried to run away. He wasn't surprised and he knew he had it coming at the time it was coming.

Literally on every Leafs post I've seen they're saying it's payback for what Perry did to Tavares. I've seen comments with hundreds on hundreds of likes saying give Pere a massive NHL contract because he took Laine out for the season, and you want to talk about classless?..
