I sort of always took the movie and specifically the line "We are Americans" as a commentary on classism and immigration. As in, the Tethered, who are viewed as not real and not valid as people, but yet are just like us. They just wanted to be able to be free, and have a voice. They had no rights, no choice. But they were just the same as us. They/We are Americans. "US" - "U.S." I don't know; those were my takeaways. And, to me, 'Get Out' was a commentary about racism shown through two souls trying to inhabit one body, and 'Us' is a social and political commentary shown through one soul trying to be shared by two bodies.
I agree with you. I liked Get Out better but this one was definitely scarier. Even rewatching through this had me clutching my chair at times lol. I only sort of liked this movie at first watch. It took me watching theory videos later and discussing it to like it more. I watched some interviews with Jordan Peele, Lupita Nyongo, and Winston Duke and it seems the theme of this movie is blind privilege/classism. With that in mind, the significance of the "we are Americans" line is that we are the same and should have the same rights and opportunities, yet some of us get left behind, forgotten, or even purposely hidden. Red made a good point in that classroom when she mentioned that she thought of why clone Adelaide didn't take her with her. Instead, she just selfishly switched places and left her behind while living life in her stead. And really that one simple choice could have made all the difference between the meeting of the people above ground and the tethered. Like Clone Adelaide never tried to go back or bring some attention to the tethered. She got her own little slice of privilege and kept it pushing.
The popular take is essentially We are Americans: where everything is on the surface and hollow underneath, everyone just sort of follows the crowd You invest in having things, you put effort into fitting in, even when you're acting like a rebel more often than not you're still conforming. When one of the tethered ends up on the surface nobody really notices the difference enough to care.
something that some theorists and review/critics point out is that Red was a being with no soul on the surface and no one noticed. any weird mannerisms she has are passed off as quirkiness or her being socially awkward. almost as if to say that society would never be able to tell the difference between a fake person and a real one, unless the fake was our own
I always saw this as a statement on the haves and have nots, that for someone to prosper generally means that other people are suffering, and generally people don't really pay attention to those that are suffering. I also took that last part with them switching is inner class warfare, and that people will fuck each other over just so they can get ahead.
on Patreon the movie isn’t on the screen like it is on RUclips, why is that? I noticed that on a couple people’s Patreon that ive subscribed to and so I unsubbed because I would like to watch it along with the reactor
I don't see a lot of reactors who actually put the footage with their reaction but after the first few movies I did I started to include them. The footage was definitely included with this one

Brilliant movie. Jordan Peele is a master filmmaker. He knows his horror.

Even in that tiny window......that voice still gave me a chill.

Thanks Eric! Keep up the movie reactions!
Really enjoyed the reaction! I actually wasn't the biggest fan of Get Out myself but I loved this!
They could've just gone together....they could've played together, danced together, be like twins but closer........

Saw it in theatres twice, thanks for reminding me how great it was!
Great review.A sign of a great movie when after it's all over your mind goes over it all, processing, questioning, realizing. Love it.

Make it full movie!!! :D
