I really love to see someone so young not be so obsessed with food and needing all the fancy bells and whistles. Refreshing to see simplicity, body fuel and good whole ingredients. Your simple so am I and I appreciate your videos and lifestyle. Thank you so much
If you cook chickpeas in the crockpot or instant pot, you will get the aquafaba juice that you would have in the can. The less water you use, the more thick it will be. Too much water and it will be very watered down.
If you want to whip the aquafaba you’ll have best results with homemade if you throw it in a pan and reduce it by a third. Then refrigerate it and use it cold. Also you can freeze it at that point for later. Learned this in the vegan desserts course at Rouxbe.com.
You can get aquafaba from dried garbanzo beans. Just follow stovetop recipe and then let the beans and water cool in the pan. The liquid thickens and is ready to use!!
These type videos are very practical and helpful for so many people. Most people are running around with chores/kids and need quick and simple solutions.
I just want to say that I made that creamy pasta sauce and I LOVE IT! I am about to have it for the second time today and I cannot get enough. I crave creaminess often and this will be my new go-to. Thanks for sharing!
I LOVE the simplicity. Everytime I watch frugal food haul videos my eyes start to cross halfway through cause they do a different thing every other meal! I really like the idea of going off of the serving sizes. EPIPHANY. 🙌
Omg this video was so inspiring! Watched the video at work and had to come home and make some of it… I made the pumpkin bars and the pasta. I added agave and raisins to sweeten the pumpkin bars and love them! (Oh and some chia seeds for heartiness. For the pasta I added curry spices, pepper, and oregano to the sauce and used white wine instead of lemon because I didn’t have one. Thanks for the ideas!!😍
Hahahaha thank YOU! It is too expensive if you’re trying to buy all the expensive cheeses and meat alternatives but as someone who didn’t like meat or dairy I don’t want to replace them in my diet with fakes so I’m glad I can show people healthy alternatives ☺️
Having a plant based diet is the cheapest and healthiest diet. Vegan food alternatives are incredibly expensive, so if you go from having cheese/meat with every meal and try to replicate with vegan alternatives and not using plants, it’ll be more expensive. For example, a small block of vegan cheese is about $6 where I live. You can make so many alternatives like bean burgers for soo incredibly cheap, and once you add all of your toppings, it’s so similar and you don’t feel gross afterwards (:
Thanks Mindy!! You’re a constant source of encouragement and I love how resourceful you are as well! Guess what we had for dinner last night?! Broccoli cheese soup 😂 I just watched your video and laughed!! Mine is different than yours but similar so funny!
You are just so amazing, I love to eat simple and lazy meals for myself as well. Thank you for simifying the lifestyle and always making it so do-able.
Thank you so much for this video. I’m stuck in this rut of fast food, pizza delivery, spaghetti, and rice a roni and I’m so sick of it but I’m so picky that trying new things scares me 😭 These all look fairly familiar and I’m so eager to try them so I can try some new things. I just saw you have a whole playlist of things like this so I subscribed, I’m so excited and grateful to have found this video 🤍🤍
You need a pressure canner for the aqua faba. Just buy the dry garbanzo beans, soak them and can them yourself. Full instructions can be found at the USDA canning site. It sounds daunting, but it’s actually quite easy, it’s just takes time, which I know is in short supply. Buying them canned is just worth it sometimes because our time is definitely worth a few pennies.😀
I am really loving your channel., As someone who is on a fixed income ( disability) and struggling financially and with Chronic Kidney Disease And needing to lose weight so I can get on the kidney transplant list I can really appreciate your frugalness but also your creativity. I always get great ideas from yo8ur recipes I want to try. I am trying to figure out how to substitute some things, such as potatoes which are kind of a no for a CKD patient ( not completely, if I double boil them and eat them in moderation they are doable). It's amazing how good riced veggies can be when used instead of actual rice. In some dishes, I am thinking instead of potatoes use something else as a filling substitute such as cooked cauliflower or cabbage. Anyway, I just love the channel. You're showing folks that eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive, which is awesome.
tip: if you have the time which is basically as much as rice.. buy dry beans instead of canned. You get a lot more for you money and after soaking them overnight they take an hour took cook which is as much as rice basically.
I always give veggie scraps to my three dogs. They come running when they hear me chopping. I'm going to try your pumpkin bars and creamy pea pasta today. I've seen the pasta made with soy sauce, but I think I will like your version better. Aqua Faba is simply the broth made by cooking dried beans. It occurs in the cans because they cook dried beans in the cans. Your gut microbiome would be a lot happier and healthier with whole grain rice and pasta. An inexpensive way to add more vegetable diversity and nutrition to your diet is to grow sprouts in your kitchen and garnish all lunches and dinners with them. Add a teaspoon or two of broccoli, kale, cauliflower, alfalfa, radish, amaranth, or clover seeds to a jar. Fill it with water and let soak for 24 hours. Drain. Top with a fancy strainer lid or top a rubber-banded cotton cloth. Rinse and drain twice a day for 7-10 days. Start a new jar every day or two. Wallah! You have a constant supply of fresh and cheap (about $0.10) local leafy greens with a billion more nutrients than anything you can get in the store. You can also grow them in a mesh colander or a dish lined with a coco coir mat. But Girl! You need more diversity than your awesome budget haul allows.
You’re always filled with so many good tips! I always write them down but I have to be honest, working 60 hours a week at my job + keeping up with social media I always think of “okay I’ll do this on the weekend” and than don’t get to it! You’ll be so impressed when I finally do!!!❤️ I always tend to land in the spot of “convenience” even if it’s healthy-ish. And I don’t buy a lot of whole grain pasta- brown rice yes from time to time- but I seem to have an intolerance for either if I eat too much of them! Maybe your magic gut health I need to start growing and enjoying and see if that’ll help!
@SuzyQ thanks for the tips on growing sprouts. I’ve been watching videos but haven’t taken the leap yet. I wanted to start with broccoli sprouts. You make it sound easy so I’m going to try it.
@@flourishingmiranda try red lentil pasta or chickpea pasta to see if it sits better n at least u get the benefits of beans vs refined flour. I am trying to get more legumes and whole grains in. This is after I bought 40 boxes of white pasta for my yr stock up. Now I have to use up this refined pasta while I transition to healthier. 😝 food is food and we just keep growing in our knowledge
I need to get those dry chickpeas than!! I always buy can because I didn't know you can make that juice! I'm excited because I eat A LOT of chickpeas!!!
my dog goes crazy for carrots too. He jumps all over the kitchen while he is waiting for us to give it to him. I really enjoy your videos! You share some great ideas. I wish you the best on your journey to be debt free, your freedom and choices expand so much when you lose the debt chain that limits your options to make life changes. I love watching your videos, you made the last few months of 2020 tolerable and I found myself smiling again, thank you!
I always give snacks to our shitzu Jackie. She loves the carrots and cucumbers lettuce and all crunchy veggies. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video.
Thanks for the pumpkin bar recipe. It gave me inspiration to make my own (though I added vanilla extract, baking powder, unsweetened applesauce, salt, pumpkin pie spice, & a little maple syrup), and I really like how they turned out. The best part is that all I had to buy was the can of pumpkin. I was looking for something new to try at breakfast, and that was just the inspiration I needed.
2 weeks whaaat!! Yess just what I was looking for, I just got back from my birthday vacation and did a pantry challenge and now I'm trying to keep my budget as low as possible for me and my plant-based Doberman who's food I make every 3 to 4 days so this is perfect thank you because I was struggling to figure out myself what I should be getting ✌🌱💚💸👑
Manufacturers just put dry chickpeas and water in cans, seal, then cook them. So if you cook them yourself at home you'll end up with the same thing :)
Thanks for this video. I have been struggling with fast meal ideas. I have all the ingredients to make everything you prepared with some variations to make it gluten-free because I’m allergic to gluten. Thanks again!
Hey love - heard you mention in another video that brown rice sometimes can be difficult on ur stomach, wanted to suggest that you fully wash your rice before cooking it! It helps a lot with digestion.
I do! I’m wondering if it’s a grain issue in general! I’ve rinsed, I’ve soaked, I’ve eaten it cold- I can’t usually eat it here and there but not daily! And not back to back meals
BRILLIANT! Can't wait to try these recipes! I make sushi bowls but add Nori Komi Furikake and rice vinegar to them and the seaweed add the fishy taste. It's amazing!!!
ust as an example, apples are $2 a pound where I live, and that is our normal in season price. Even though my prices are much higher than yours, I very much appreciate your budget meal plans. So many people work and are too tired to cook when they come home, so canned beans are certainly better than the alternative fake food. You chick pea sauce looks so yummy. I can't wait to try it.
Prices do vary and that’s just part of where we all live, but I do think the ideas are what we can all take away from any budget friendly video! I’ve watch other videos where they have items extremely cheap compared to what I could get the same items for too!
Oh no! I'm so sad for you! It just opened here not too long ago and I stopped in once after I made a pit stop to Trader Joe's and I was in grocery store HEAVEN! I love Winco so much!!
Oooh, girl, you give me inspiration! (This is me, taking notes!) Your dogs are so lovely. When my girl was still here (had to make That Decision in February after 14 years) she would love to eat tofu when I was cooking.
OH Yes!! I cut up veggies every night and they come in to the kitchen and get there share. on the beans if you put them in your I/P and just covered the beans with water. Shouldn't you be able to use the to make it? I don't know just thinking outloud...
Couple of reasons- 1- I don’t really care about seasonings. That’s all personal taste 2- anytime I do use seasonings in a budget video people will comment how it’s “not fair” So I like to think of it as an idea and anyone can add whatever they prefer!❤️ makes it simple and easy!
I’m so glad you love them! I think they’re good anytime but I’m with you- Honestly I wish I would have had the same ideas in college 😂👏🏻 I spent soooo much money in college when I didn’t have it!!
@@flourishingmiranda He is almost 21 and last year he started having a slight uncomfortable feeling in his throat shortly after he would eat a banana. It grew worse each time. Last time it was only half banana in a smoothie and he almost couldn't breathe and I took him to urgent care where they did several things to help him. I'd never heard of it until then.
Wow!!! This happened to me 3 years ago with peanuts! It was after I was on a medication i noticed whenever I had peanut butter my throat was sore and scratchy and each morning it was worse. It took me a bit to figure it out! But I had peanut butter with rice cakes for a pre workout!
Those were great ideas. I would love to see this challenge but with as many different meal ideas you could come up with. I know variety is hard on a strict budget though
Girl I’m up for a challenge!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I will make some notes and see on my next one if I can make a few more meal ideas vs just 3! Maybe play around with Ingredients that are great for multiple Meals!!🥰
I'm literally going through your videos and putting together a list 🤣 The beauty of eating simply is that the items are multi-purpose, so finding a "different" recipe is pretty simple.👍
I add cut up carrots to our dogs breakfast. We also use carrot sticks like most people use dog bones like milk bones. I add canned green beans to their dinner.
My big dog LOVES carrots! We have used them a lot for bones too because it’s better for them! He has a sensitive stomach so I tend to not give them any other veggies but he can have rice so I will sometimes add that to his dinner but not always. Unfortunately my little guy doesn’t have any teeth 😂😂😂 so he gets grated carrots but not very many and not much else! The joys of being old I guess 🥰
@@flourishingmiranda You're a good dog mom. Our big dog is husky shepherd mix and she thinks all carrots belong to her so when people eat carrots there are a lot of judgy looks.
OH MY GOD that’s ADORABLE!! Marcus is a German / Husky mix and girl the hair in our home is incredible this time of year! If you ever have any tips please share!!!
😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 we do! I swifter daily and my husband vacuums 3xs a week! We used to take him to the groomer to get something done I think it was called a de-fur-manator? But it gave him awful anxiety so we stopped
Would you suggest parchment paper for the pumpkin oat bars? Recipes look delish, can’t wait to try it! Just bought pumpkin now I know an ez recipe, thanks!!!!
I definitly prefer to give winco my money rather than walmart! Winco is employee owned 💜 with the oatmeal recipe, if you throw all of that in a blender with 1/2 cup water boom you have pancakes/waffles!!!
Yes same! And the people who work at ours are amazing!!! The lady who checked me out on Friday has her own cookie business and she offered to start making vegan cookies for my social parties! (Obviously not during the pandemic!!)
I could eat the same thing everyday if I enjoy it. My hubby is also great with leftovers. I don't understand people that won't eat leftovers. I love to cook, but not that much!
I know we’re not suppose to count calories but how many calories do you eat daily. Especially potatoes how many do you eat for the day and how much rice do you normally eat
It really just depends on the day! A few examples: I tend to eat a lot more on weekends because I’m home and I have time. Often I’ll eat 2 cups of rice and 2-3 potatoes when I’m home per meal If I’m making a meal like a dinner for my husband and I I tend to only eat 1 serving and than wait. If I’m still hungry I’ll have a second serving. Each day is different based on how I “feel”. I know that’s not exactly helpful but there are some days I’m tired from work or didn’t sleep well or not feeling awesome and I don’t eat that much! Eating based on feel has been really good for me because I don’t feel any stress about hitting a certain calorie goal ❤️ I think we forget our natural state is to listen to our bodies and if it wants more we should give it more! Or if it’s telling us hey we ain’t got it today- our bodies will naturally make up for it later in the week so it’s nothing to stress about!
Omygodess! Thank You ❤️☘️ love from Ireland ☘️🇨🇮. Just what I am needing. Inspiration. I am a gluten free vegan want-a-be. I love brown rice pasta.....so expensive...any suggestions welcome.
Oh I might be the WORST for suggesting brown rice pasta since it actually doesn't love me! Have you tried red lentil pasta?! We have that and chickpea pasta in the state and its GF and usually cheaper!
Would these meals be good for weight loss too? Also, if i sub out applesauce instead of pumpkin puree.... Do i do the same amount of apple sauce? (1.5 cups) wanting to try this. 🙌
Yes you can swap the pumpkin for applesauce just use a little less because its more watery! and yes these are great meals for weight loss! Honestly weight loss is just about portions!
Yes I have frozen them!! They last 7 days in the fridge and when I freeze them I do them in individual baggies and freeze for up to 30 days! They freeze great!
These breakfast bars are SO GOOD 😍😍😍 I hope you let me know over on IG when you give them a try!

Yes my fur babe always gets carrots 🥕 she comes running from upstairs when I’m cooking with them, she just knows!
Awww that’s the cutest !!!
I wish they had a winco in Tucson. I miss them immensely since I've moved here from Phoenix 🥺
Awwww dogs are the best! I’m so glad I could give you some ideas!❤️
Love the puppy 🥕!
Ain’t he just the best!?🥰
Wow awesome!! What's the name of the grocery store? WinCo Foods?. I've never heard of it. I shop at Giant or Safeway most of the time.
Hi , new subbie here and this video is like gold! Thank you so much for sharing and now I shall watch a few more. Thanks again!
Hi welcome!!! I’m so glad you’re here!!
Your puppies are adorable!
Thank you!🧡
You definitely scored on the carrots. We don't get carrots that cheap here. Good find 😁
Such good prices always at Winco foods it’s awesome!
OH Yes!! I cut up veggies every night and they come in to the kitchen and get there share. on the beans if you put them in your I/P and just covered the beans with water. Shouldn't you be able to use the to make it? I don't know just thinking outloud...
Yes I make beans in my IP all the time!
These ideas are great but I’m curious as to why you don’t use more seasoning.
Couple of reasons-
1- I don’t really care about seasonings. That’s all personal taste
2- anytime I do use seasonings in a budget video people will comment how it’s “not fair”
So I like to think of it as an idea and anyone can add whatever they prefer!❤️ makes it simple and easy!
Thought I was the only one who could eat pasta by itself. ☺️😁 Petite peas are just tinier. ☺️
My pups love raw broccoli, the pasta dish looks amazing, will be making soon as. ❤️
I hope you love it!
I always share with my fur babies. The love veggies
Awww 🥰 fur babies are the best!
Carrots and pumpkin for the puppies!
I love all of your ideas! I wish I had all of these tips when my kids were little & we were on a very tight budget.
I’m so glad you love them! I think they’re good anytime but I’m with you- Honestly I wish I would have had the same ideas in college 😂👏🏻 I spent soooo much money in college when I didn’t have it!!
@@flourishingmiranda made the sushi bowl today for lunch. It was DELICIOUS! Thank you,
@@lynnm9138 I’m so glad!!!💛
My son is recently one allergic to bananas! Good to see substitutes.
I try to always add them in!! I’m seeing more and more comments from people allergic to bananas!
I was the same for peanuts!
Wow!!! This happened to me 3 years ago with peanuts! It was after I was on a medication i noticed whenever I had peanut butter my throat was sore and scratchy and each morning it was worse. It took me a bit to figure it out! But I had peanut butter with rice cakes for a pre workout!
@@flourishingmiranda oh my! I love(d) peanut butter!
I love these videos!
Yayy! I’m so glad because I also love them😍making them helps me be so creative!
My dogs love veggies and fruit.
I use water I cook chick peas in. It is aquafaba.
Thank God for ur description lol
Those were great ideas. I would love to see this challenge but with as many different meal ideas you could come up with. I know variety is hard on a strict budget though
Girl I’m up for a challenge!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I will make some notes and see on my next one if I can make a few more meal ideas vs just 3! Maybe play around with Ingredients that are great for multiple
Meals!!🥰
Yesssss!!! Y’all are giving me SO many ideas
I'm literally going through your videos and putting together a list 🤣 The beauty of eating simply is that the items are multi-purpose, so finding a "different" recipe is pretty simple.👍
Ahhh, I want to make all of it!.😍
I hope you do!! Im still obsessed with the sushi bowls 😂🥰😍
My little dog ADORES carrots 🥕
Awww what kind of pup do you have?
@@flourishingmiranda I have two but my mixed chihuahua begs for them at the fridge lol
More of these videos please!!
I just posted a new one today!
@@flourishingmiranda ok thanks will check it out
I add cut up carrots to our dogs breakfast.
@@flourishingmiranda The only tip I have is to vacuum often. I vacuum 3x a week to keep the hair under control.
Yes absolutely!! Parchment is wonderful!
I always give my pup healthy scraps and my husband always hates it and says I’m killing her. 🤨🥴 but it’s meat and veggies?!? Like it’s good stuff
Awww! I know dogs do well on veggies and raw meats! They just can’t have apple onions or raisins! And tomatoes!
Ooo might try that chickpea sauce!
Hope you like it!
Definetly making that bean sauce! I don't like sweets but that sauce sounds delish!
The peas are sweet but the dish is savory! The sauce is sooo good I hope you enjoy it!
@@flourishingmiranda oh thats amazing!!!!
I know! She was so sweet!
I’m watching you on RUclips and I do not know where the description box is
What are the beans? I'm from Australia... Are they like chick peas?
Yes chickpeas!!
I will have to try the chickpea sauce😍
It’s very good 😍
I could eat the same thing everyday if I enjoy it.
A few examples:
I tend to eat a lot more on weekends because I’m home and I have time. Often I’ll eat 2 cups of rice and 2-3 potatoes when I’m home per meal
If I’m making a meal like a dinner for my husband and I I tend to only eat 1 serving and than wait.
I live in the UK and don't get pumpkin in tins like you do. Could I make this by roasting fresh pumpkin and mashing it?
You could just use baked sweet potato! It works just as well and is less mess but yes you could use the flesh of a pumpkin!
Most canned “pumpkin” is butternut squash or other orange winter squashes.
@@truepeacenik I’ve heard this but the can still says ingredients: pumpkin 😂 very confusing!
@@flourishingmiranda chick pea and lentil pasta ok I will check those out. Thx. ☘️🇨🇮
Hi, I’m going to try the oatmeal bars and was wondering if you have ever tried freezing them? Or how long do they last in the fridge?
Yes I have frozen them!! They last 7 days in the fridge and when I freeze them I do them in individual baggies and freeze for up to 30 days! They freeze great!
@@flourishingmiranda great thank you! Love the content!
You’re welcome! Thank you!!!❤️
I like your channel.
Thank you!

Welcome I’m so glad you’re here! I love Winco so much!!!
Are you in Vegas? We love the new winco. :)
Edited to add: just saw the receipt! Hi neighbor :)
Hello!!
In Vegas as well!!
Cook the chickpeas in a crockpot so you could get the aquafiba
Yes thank you I have a few times since this video and it’s perfect!
