Hi Everyone ! I was getting requests on how to add a hoodie to my Modern V Stitch Pocket Shawl so here it is! This pattern can be easily adapted for any project you are working on that you want to add a hood. I have added the basic construction / seaming in the beginning and at the end the specific details on how to make the V stitch hood for my pocket shawl. There are some notes and timestamps in the description box for navigation. Hope you give it a try! xx
This deserves so much more love and attention. I'm so tired of tutorials teaching how to do the project without handing down the basics! Thank you for teaching me to fish! And showing how you found the measurements Happy Hooking!
So Im only good at square crocheting. After watching this however I just realized that I could do a hoodie in pieces or figure out my loom. I never really thought of just attaching the hood. Thank you for this because it means a lot.
I just recently started to crochet. Love your channel! You explain instructions very well. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Your voice is soothing.
Oh that makes me happy ! I’m so glad you think my voice sounds soothing - I hear it and think “boooooring” 😂 thank you 💕 and have fun on your crochet journey
Hi Play Hooky with Me, I am new to your channel. I wanted to thank you for this tutorial because I made a chunky cardigan and it didn’t have a hood. I searched for adding a crochet hoodie and I was blessed to find you. You made it quite easy and I like your teaching style. I love playing hooky!
Looks really easy. I just finished a pocket shawl about a week ago. I wanted to add a hood but it looked to hard. I believe I'll try it. Going to need more yarn🙄🙄🤣🤣. You make it look doable 🙂. Tyfs God bless you
[slams the pause button] First, I LOVE the name of this channel. [hits play] Okay, this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! Made my first sweater this year and decided it needs a hood. Have subbed 😁
Very nice pattern and ideas. I would like to mention one thing about the yarn. It’s very dark and hard to see. Could you use a lighter color next time. Thank you
I haven’t tried it on a poncho so I can’t say for sure but i think it should work. You could take some fabric and make a teeny poncho and hood (pin it together) just to see if it does. Keep me posted!
Got a question maybe I can do from the advice from The video but I’m making a top (a shirt to wear ) and I’m making two panel the same And sewing at the sides and the than seaming at the shoulder inwards towards my Neck so my Neck goes in How would i put the hoodie on to something made this way
I would be having to do what I shared in the video to know myself. I would take a piece of fabric and pin it to see how it would join to the body of the shirt. Or also look and see if you have a shirt like that with a hoodie on it to see where the edges meet up etc. I have no idea- these are the things I would do to figure it out 🧶💕
Yes you can. Here is a video with flat seam joins that you might like. I’d recommend the “invisible join” since you don’t like the bumpy look : ruclips.net/video/x-3Ijs9Wm58/видео.html
@@PlayHookywithMe Thank you so much & I’m making a hoodie to go onto a shawl I’m making for my daughter in law. Again thanks so much. Oh one more question since you replied, why is it I can’t keep my count right ? I start out with correct amount but usually end up with a different count. Not always but a lot.
Yes, I would make a mock up hood first with a spare piece of fabric - attach it with pins to your cardigan and try it on and see if it looks right to you. Then, create your rectangle in a similar stitch style to your cardigan and attach. Good luck !
I think mine was just one skein … maybe 2 but I can’t recall exactly since I was just sharing the concept of designing it. My skein was 109 yards/100 m . Required an 8 to 9 mm hook .
@@PlayHookywithMe thank you for actually getting back to me. I plan on using the stitch pattern for the cardigan I am making, but I wanted one with a hood. So, I'm not making this one, but using the idea and measuring tips. This was awesome and I'm so glad I came across this. I can't wait to add this hood to my project.
Wow. I was getting into this when I was hit by ad after ad for hulu and noom and some other outfit. That was all I could take! What to do when this happens? I would like to finish watching. Thank you for what was an enlightening video until the awful, and very long commercials, disrupted the flow.
I checked the settings and there’s only one ad break in the video at 9 minutes in and I made it “skippable” I’m not sure why this is so annoying to you (unless RUclips bypassed my settings) but it’s the only way I get anything for my effort for creating a video and providing a free pattern. Thanks for watching a little at least and glad you liked what you saw. 💕
I found a solution to my problem. I installed a Chrome extension that doesn’t allow RUclips ads to play. I have no idea why I was hit with so many ads during this video. It was atypical for both me and you, the video creator. After I installed the extension, I finished watching with no trouble.

So glad you do these videos to teach us the principles rather than just following a pattern. Thank you ❤
Thank you, Hayley 😀💕
Wow, your instructions are so easy to follow! Thank you so much!
Very useful. Really appreciate the option of making it to fit me rather than just being a pattern. Hope that makes sense. Thank you.
Oh great , I’m glad you liked that aspect of it! 😀👏🏻
I've been hoping to find simple steps for a hood! I really love your attention to detail and how you explain your process, thank you!
Oh, I’m so happy to read this. I’m never really sure if I’m rattling on too much or not enough 😂thank you !
Thank you for the short and to the point video on adding a hoodie to a scarf pattern. You are a wonderful teacher and much appreciated.
Thank you so much 😀💕
This was extremely helpful. Especially the smaller sample for clearer understanding. Thank you

Can you use this stitch to put together a granny square afghan ? I’ve got one that needs to be put together & I don’t like the bumpy look .
Yes you can. Here is a video with flat seam joins that you might like.
I’d recommend the “invisible join” since you don’t like the bumpy look :

How much yarn does this hood average to make?

It should. I would practice with a pinned sheet first to be sure , like I show in the video 🧶💕
