Possibly one of the most perfect car designs ever. A ‘step up’ from the Chevelle, which is also awesome. Super color here. Why can’t we have this same car reissued now, just with some modern things. It would sell like crazy. Cheers!
Sign me up for one. Dodge was able to make the Hellcat proportions look fairly close, i dont see why GM designers cant do the same. With all the powertrain options GM has it would be a hit !
Why? Because the moron public is obsessed with SUVs that never go off road, and other SUVs that were never even made to go off road. "Personal luxury coupes" were gone years ago, no one wanted them. Heck, the only regular car Ford even makes any more is the Mustang. I have my dad's 1997 Grand Marquis and it is an incredibly smooth, comfortable car to drive.
Beautiful Monte. Couple observations, '70 Monte SS came stock with a LS-5 360hp 454, thus A/C could be ordered. You could not order a 4spd, they were built factory only with a TH400 in the SS. The $420 SS option also included a 3:31 axle, F41 suspension, heavy duty shocks and springs, and upgraded sway bars and more. One thing that has been removed, besides the A/C compressor, is the factory automatic level control system. There should be a large bullet shaped air compressor that would sit on top of the driver inner fender. I've owned one for years, they are very unique and a blast to drive.
Fully equipped with everything suspension with sway bar from the Axel love them in the A body 442,SS chevelle Buick GS, MC SS , and the GTO pos traction
I also had a 71 Chevelle with the burn orange color and a cream colored top. The color on this Monte though is so sweet. The is one sweet ride. Love the rally wheels with the classic rwl BFGs
I hear you, sounds like it was an awesome combo. I do miss my 71 Burnt orange Chevelle. It had the cream bench seat interior and black SS stripes on the domed hood. I ran the 71-72 SS five spoke wheels that I restored to factory. She was just a malibu but was still cool.

I remember doing a telephone pole to telephone pole burnout with it right before she put new tires on it when I was 16. My first car I bought when I was 17 was a '63 Impala SS 327. The Chevelle got me hooked!! Fond Memories.
My girlfriends younger brother picked up one of these with a 454. He was boat crazy at that time, making weekly runs to the lakes 240 miles away. He heard about a change of cam, plus installed a different carburater, and pushed his mileage up to 24 mpg while towing a boat! The ride on these cars were stable, with good cornering, as opposed to many big cars of the day.

I never really cared for the Chevelles maybe just because there were so many but the Monte Carlos were in my opinion one of the best-looking cars of the 70's.
Brings back memories of high school. Had a school bus driver, Mrs. Johnson who's son Keith was in my class, had a '70 Monte Carlo SS 454, 4 speed back in 1972. It was kind of a school bus yellow with the black vinyl top and interior.
A neighbor bought one off the dealer lot (Cormier Chevrolet). Red with Black vinyl top and Black interior. Had the LS-5 454 and all the accessories (electric windows, power door locks, A/C) which in 1970 were "luxury" items. It had 3.31 gears which allowed easy tire spinning with 12 bolt posi. Good looking car back then, and brings back so many memories for me.
It's more than a good looking car "back then". They are more than just a good looking car now. Cars like this ( which might be a few) and just a well kept, unmolested Monte are exceptionally good looking in my humble opinion. PEACE from Philadelphia
Had a 70 350 with work. There was a silver SS454 that I used to see back in the 80's always coveted that car. Guy I knew had two 70' 402 4 speeds, talk about rare. Great Video!
Thanks for checking her out. Wow, in my area there was a dark blue with white vinyl top from memory. That 454 fender script always stuck in my head ! Im gonna check and see if the guy still has it. He owns a shop i pass by all the time. Now the curiosity is killing me lol
This car was my first love. I made a model of it back then as I was only 13 when it was introduced. ❤️ Noticed it has corvette rally wheels just like I had on my 77 which was firethorne metallic similar to this color.
Very nice car! I had a chance to buy a ‘71 Monty SS454 in the mid 70’s. But had a gas shortage at the time so I got a ‘75 MC with a 350 2bbl. That MC past around my family for 20 years. But at the time didn’t know they only made SS454 for 2 years.
Later,I bought a new 77,that was a piece of shit. 305/2 bbl, absolute top speed 85 mph. Shoddy workmanship through out,GM was turning out crap by then, and the worst was yet to come.
Ahh, I miss the 70s. And the 60s actually. These Montes are sweet. Ride good. I did not know there was an SS version . That motor is pushing 500 lb.ft. of tourqe I bet. Tire burner for sure. I had a 69 Buick Skylark with the Rocket 350 and it would flat out roast tires for breakfast so I know this set up will. Nice car bro.
I miss the 60/70s too. I fondly recall my 68 GTO,that I drove for years and put over 150,000 miles on it ,without a rebuild, and she still ran great. First car I ever had that came with an Am/fm radio.
I love these cars, when I was in the Marines I 75 my buddy brought one back from Kansas. A 72 w/ a 402 4 bolt main cap motor. It wasn't the fastest car on base but torqey & a wonderful ride. And it was pretty tight too, not a floater boater.
I owned a 1972 Monte Carlo that I drove in high school and five years of college. Wish I still had that car. Orange in color with a black soft top. One sweet ride.
Great question. I don’t believe i have seen that done. With the grill and elongated nose on the monte with some effort its possible but wouldn’t be a bolt on and go. I think it could be cool if it was done correctly. Have you seen the convertible conversion where they used the chevelle convertible top… looks awesome !
I love the Chevy muscle cars I had a 68 Camaro and a 68 Chevelle they had 327’s not SS but floor slap stick shifters I loved them both never gave me a bit of problems just did oil changes and tires drove to work and school and the beach and band practice. Those were the best days I didn’t know how good I had it!
Man you sure did ! Check out some of my other videos. I have a barn find 66 chevelle project i was able to buy and a few 1970 Chevelle’s coming up soon
I love the rally wheels with the beauty rings. If it hasn’t been done already put some tac welds on the rims where the beauty rings snap on. I had an S10 with beauty rings and spun my rear tires hard and when it hooked, the rings kept rotating on the rim and cut my valve stems!! Maybe rally wheels are different, I dunno.
I know what you mean my 77 gmc has the 15x8 rallies and 2 of them all slipping over the valve stem with just regular driving. I always thought it was the cheap China crap.i am going to the turkey run in Daytona and look for the ones that have the metal clips on the edge they always stayed in place.
Its been noticed and asked a lot. The car/owner took some liberties when restoring. As you can see its more performance oriented with a hint of originality still there. Thanks for checkin it out 👍🏾
A friend of mine's mother had one back in the early '70's in green 2 tone. Her husband had owned the Chevrolet dealership in our small town of DeQuincy, LA called Jameson Chevrolet before he accidentally shot himself and died. Her son Craig used to drive it a lot and he was about my age, early 20's. We had a lot of fun with that car, shutting people down from the stop light in Lake Charles, LA, which was a much larger town about 25 miles away. This luxury car had some serious performance for a factory equipped car, a real "sleeper!" What fun we had back in those days. 😁😉
These were a very rare car and beautiful ! That being said...I raced a guy that had an all black one (with vinyl top) against my 69 Chevelle SS 396...only the 396 was out and I had a built up 350 running about 360 horses..I had B&M Shifter in it. We ran the 1/4 mile. I got the jump on him and it was close for awhile...but I beat him by about a car length. I believe it was the heavy motor along with his inexperience. But that is MOP.
I owned a 70 monte in mid 70s ...454.. turbo 400.. black cloth buckets ..console...had 454 badges ...brown exterior...but no ss badges anywhere on the car....great car to drive...fun...

Brother Jack Reyes collects chevy cars when we were growing up and one day he pulled a Monte Carlo in green (Bowling Green) and green cloth interior color and came with a SBC here in San Vicente Village, Saipan. I think one of the Coast Guard brought the car to the island and left it.
Very nice looking Monte!! I’m currently working on a 71’ myself, just waiting on finishing up bodywork and paint. Is that a Glasstek hood? I have one to, fits very nice. I did add those billet hood hinges..Not to often you see those hoods, to bad AMD wouldn’t make them out of steel.

@@nollrodney3253 I have a '70 and '71, and I've had 2 '72s. The vinyl tops for all 3 years were the same, except there were 2 styles for '70. The first was like you described. Goodday Uncle Tony, Beautiful from any angle. Can you please tell me the difference between the LS5 @ 360 hp in the Monte Carlo SS 454 & the LS5 @ 390hp in the Corvette or Chevrolet Caprice. Cheers Louis 👍 ❤
Im sure folks with way more knowledge can chime in. I believe the motors and hp were actually the same but may have purposely been advertised differently. Some say GM had a policy in place that the Corvette had to always be assigned the higher advertised Hp of the line up. Could make sense as the Corvette was to be the premier car. Others say it was due to the Corvettes free flowing exhaust manifolds ? These are not facts just some things I have read over the years. Cheers and I appreciate the look 👍
Agreed. You never see the SS Montes let alone the 454 version on the street. They are even just as rare to see at most car shows. Under appreciated in my opinion
No, didnt catch it. How’d do. Funny was just watching All Girls Garage and they were working on a sweet, what appeared to b factory orange 70’s Monte. It also had some tasteful upgrades. I think the time has finally come for the Montes to get some well deserved love 👍👍🏾
I hade a friend in High School that had a 70 Monte Carlo with a LT-! In it (350 cubic inch, 350 horsepower) with a factory four speed. He was a master at power shifting and would eat up big block Chevelles.
Yea, there were a lot of cars that were unsuspecting back then. Sort of like the 87-93 Foxbody Mustang LX 5.0’s. I have several and with some gear and exhaust they feel fast and held their own. I would still put money on my 505ci disguised as a 396 70SS Chevelle anyday lol

They sure did. I was surprised at how few folks opted for it especially in 71.
I had a 73, 350/4 barrel.one of the best running cars I ever had.
Later,I bought a new 77,that was a piece of shit. 305/2 bbl, absolute top speed 85 mph. Shoddy workmanship through out,GM was turning out crap by then, and the worst was yet to come.
Man, the owner of this car should be very happy ! This car is beautiful ! One of the best GM built ! 👍✌
Thanks for checking it out. He seemed pretty pumped about the car and doing a great job on her.👍👍🏾
Beautiful car 👊🏼👍🏼
I agree 😂
Really nice car and very heartfelt video, great job Man! 😎
Thanks and appreciate you 👍
Beautiful car I had a 70 Monte Carlo when I was in highschool, just a base model 350 2bl but it made a lasting impression 😊
Sleepers before sleepers became a thing ! Thanks for checking her out 👍🏾
Ahh, I miss the 70s.
Im sure it will ! The owner appreciates your comment and thanks for checking her out 👍
SS 454 monte Carlos only made in 70 and 71. Never made an SS in 72.
I liked those Buick 350s. Sleepers!
Yes,you should be proud of this rare piece of automotive history. Should you get bored with it, I will be happy to take it off your hands...lol!
I miss the 60/70s too. I fondly recall my 68 GTO,that I drove for years and put over 150,000 miles on it ,without a rebuild, and she still ran great. First car I ever had that came with an Am/fm radio.
Amazing
Agreed !
Thanks for checking out the vid 👍🏾👍
I love these cars, when I was in the Marines I 75 my buddy brought one back from Kansas. A 72 w/ a 402 4 bolt main cap motor. It wasn't the fastest car on base but torqey & a wonderful ride. And it was pretty tight too, not a floater boater.
Thanks for your service Sir. I could only imagine some of the iron you would see on the base !
I'm more of a Chevelle fan but I would be happy with this in my garage!
Same here. Stay tuned. I have some Chevelle content coming up very soon 👍🏾👍
I owned a 1972 Monte Carlo that I drove in high school and five years of college.
Wish I still had that car. Orange in color with a black soft top. One sweet ride.
Thats awesome ! Ownership of a 70’s Monte has definitely left a lot of us owners with fond memories 👍🏾👍
Love the first generation of Monte carlo. 🙀❤
Always enjoy seeing something I did not know existed and I was a teenager in the 1970's.
Same here 👍
Wow !!! What a gem ! That's worth a small fortune.
I agree on both fronts ! Thanks for checking it out.
who can forget that fan shroud! it's like a tunnel
True indeed
Hey do you know if it’s possible to swap the front end with that of a 1970 Chevelle? I like the Monty’s body shape, but wish it had 4 headlights
Beautiful!!!! I had a 1972 L48 350
Awesome 👍🏾
Sweet Georgia pie !!
Always loved these.
Same here. The gentleman’s hotrod !
This was my dream car back in the day.
Mine too. I wanted a 197O SS454 in Fathom Blue with a white vinyl top sooo bad !
That is a gorgeous car! Awesome!
Agreed !
Always liked these better than the "70 and '71 Chevelle.
They were the gentleman’s SS 👍
I love the rally wheels with the beauty rings. If it hasn’t been done already put some tac welds on the rims where the beauty rings snap on. I had an S10 with beauty rings and spun my rear tires hard and when it hooked, the rings kept rotating on the rim and cut my valve stems!! Maybe rally wheels are different, I dunno.
I know what you mean my 77 gmc has the 15x8 rallies and 2 of them all slipping over the valve stem with just regular driving. I always thought it was the cheap China crap.i am going to the turkey run in Daytona and look for the ones that have the metal clips on the edge they always stayed in place.
nice car. where is the compressor for the auto leveling system?
Its been noticed and asked a lot. The car/owner took some liberties when restoring. As you can see its more performance oriented with a hint of originality still there. Thanks for checkin it out 👍🏾
beautiful car for sure. i have a numbers matching 70m SS myself. 68k original miles
@@onjunk4life
Oh man, sounds like an awesome machine !
Makes sense. That power to weight is the great equalizer. Add in experience for the win 👍👍🏾
I owned a 70 monte in mid 70s ...454.. turbo 400.. black cloth buckets ..console...had 454 badges ...brown exterior...but no ss badges anywhere on the car....great car to drive...fun...
Now thats a sleeper !
You said it had badges, then said it didn't.
@@danjanes8689 It had 454 badges but no ss badges...that is a true and correct statement...
No leveler pump, I had one it was Adobe beige, loved it.
Correct, the owner took some liberties on the resto but supposedly a real one. I have seen that beige. Check out my Elcamino video under the channel. Im having a similar color quandary. Thanks for checking out the vid. Subscribe if you’d like, a bunch more chevy under all vids and some cool stuff and better quality coming soon.
What a beauty!🤯
I have a 70 Monte 454 and have problems with the leaking vinyl roof so after fixing it once it came back mine is bench seat 373 rear end posi traction
Oh man ! Lucky you, sounds like you have a bad ride right there 👍👍🏾
I have always wanted a 70 Monte Carlo I don’t care if it’s SS I’d just want one with a 350 but would eventually swap the 350 for a 396
I hear you. Not a bad idea, grab the 350 car while they are still affordable and upgrade as time and money permits. I have a feeling they are next to really start appreciating. If i was on the hunt, the right color and some options like bucket seats, ac or even power windows is what id want. Good luck in your quest. Thanks for checking her out and be sure to Subscribe to the channel. I have more GM content coming and a bunch of Chevelle and Corvette videos already up. Take care 👍🏾👍
I love it and I want it!! My favorite model
LOL ….I’m with you but like most, she’s already taken lol
I see that deep fan shroud an think about that long hood, they were really good for stretching a blanket out on on those cool summer nights.lol
True indeed. Perfect drive in seat lol
I had the Pontiac Grand Prix SJ model with the 455… ❤ Never should have let her gol…
Wow, nice ! One could say those were the Pontiac version of the Monte Carlo SS. I too am a Pontiac guy. I have a video im gonna do on my 1967 Catalina 2+2 428 car. Stay tuned 👍🏾👍
@@onjunk4life They we’re the Pontiac answer to the Monte Carlo.. just a better fit and finish.. in GM Pontiac was a step above Chevrolet …always
Agreed ! Same could be said for the Olds 442 and SX optioned Olds in 70-71
Brother Jack Reyes collects chevy cars when we were growing up and one day he pulled a Monte Carlo in green (Bowling Green) and green cloth interior color and came with a SBC here in San Vicente Village, Saipan. I think one of the Coast Guard brought the car to the island and left it.
Oh man thats sounds like an awesome color combo. Be wild if it was still around 👍🏾 Thanks for checking out the video ✌🏾
I just happen to know where one is that has been made into a convertible it is a correct 454ss red with black top and interior
Man, thats gotta look sharp ! I have seen a couple that were made into verts using the Chevelle top/frame. I looks awesome when done right 👍
My father had a 1970 ss454 in Utica Ny. Wonder if this is it
Very nice looking Monte!!
I’m currently working on a 71’ myself, just waiting on finishing up bodywork and paint. Is that a Glasstek hood? I have one to, fits very nice. I did add those billet hood hinges..Not to often you see those hoods, to bad AMD wouldn’t make them out of steel.
Great, i believe it is a Glasstek hood. Wow, sounds like you got a nice project going. Please share when your done 👍
Of course !
I took tons of pictures but trying to figure out how to get them to my page isn’t working out🙄
@@steelerdude1967 where you putting them ? FB ?

Very nice I have a friend of mine that owns a 70 Monte Carlo doesn't match up to my 69 SS Pro Street 1400 horsepower pro street drag Chevelle it's very rare to find a Monte with a 454 set up like that very nice ride take care of it
Monte Carlos didn't come with Chevelle racing stripes on them
Agreed and thats not fair, picking on the Monte… you have 1040 more horsepower LOL
@@onjunk4life dude I love your car it is fabulous I am a Chevy man I've had four Chevelles 264 Super Sport Novas your car is very beautiful don't get me wrong I just love the way people put the Chevelle racing stripes on anything they own I'm very proud of you you have a very nice car nobody is making fun of anybody very nice talking to you sir enjoy your ride hails from Chicago
If I am correct and I'm pretty sure I am if you're looking for the true build sheet on that car like all Chevelles they're right on top of the gas tank if the original is still there you can drop your gas tank the build sheet should be right on top of the gas tank well anyway you have a great day was fun talking to you be safe out there boss enjoy your ride she is very beautiful
@@tomikhaos7248No worries here. I have similar views on stripes. I have several 70 SS Chevelles and stripes just look so good with the lines of the SS domed hood. All good 👍
I never have seen a vinyl top with separation around the side windows on the doors where you see the painted metal. That adds a real nice classy touch and definitely added to the cost. Beautiful Chevy.
Oldsmobile and Pontiac also had the trim like this.
@@danjanes8689 Thanks, I'll check out some pics.
That's how they came from the factory in 1970 only. And with a separation around the windshield to. I had one.
@@nollrodney3253 I have a '70 and '71, and I've had 2 '72s. The vinyl tops for all 3 years were the same, except there were 2 styles for '70. The first was like you described. The vinyl didn't start at the windshield. It started back about an inch and a half and is known as the full halo top. Late in the '70 production year, a change was made and the vinyl started at the windshield, but the rest was the same. This is known as the halo top and it's the same style used for '71 and '72.
@@danjanes8689 thanks. Now I'm going to ask you something if you ever heard. Back in
1970 Chevrolet made so many Monte Carlo to run nascar they came with L78 (375hp) 402 with 4 speed transmission. They came in 2 colors white or blue with no vinyl top & no SS badges on them. I saw a white one. I'm 70 years old & there's things you never forget I'm for S.E. Pa. Just checking you know you Monte Carlos
Would love this in a hard top, plus suspension overhauls
beautiful monte is it for sale?
Thanks for checking it out ! No, its not. The owner is currently enjoying it very much 👍🏾

Goodday Uncle Tony,
Beautiful from any angle.
Can you please tell me the difference between the LS5 @ 360 hp in the Monte Carlo SS 454 & the LS5 @ 390hp in the Corvette or Chevrolet Caprice.
Cheers
Louis 👍 ❤
Im sure folks with way more knowledge can chime in. I believe the motors and hp were actually the same but may have purposely been advertised differently. Some say GM had a policy in place that the Corvette had to always be assigned the higher advertised Hp of the line up. Could make sense as the Corvette was to be the premier car. Others say it was due to the Corvettes free flowing exhaust manifolds ? These are not facts just some things I have read over the years.
Cheers and I appreciate the look 👍
It doesn't have the auto leveling suspension tank under the hood.
Should be satin black on the panel below the trunk lid with another strip of chrome under the trunk lid and have ss under monte carlo
That’s 71
@@terrencegiordan2775 '70 didn't get the black tail panel, extra rear trim and the rubber strip across the bumper. That was for '71 only.
Super clean!
Definitely a Real unicorn 🦄🥶🎃🏆
Agreed. You never see the SS Montes let alone the 454 version on the street. They are even just as rare to see at most car shows. Under appreciated in my opinion

No factory aluminum heads on any first generation Monte Carlo, big or small block.

My first car was a black 72 .. wish i had it now . Bought in 1980 for a thousand bucks

No, didnt catch it. How’d do. Funny was just watching All Girls Garage and they were working on a sweet, what appeared to b factory orange 70’s Monte. It also had some tasteful upgrades. I think the time has finally come for the Montes to get some well deserved love 👍👍🏾
