    In fact an M20 4--speed was available w/both the L48 350 & the LS3 402, but ONLY in '70 & '71. The L48 had only 175 horsepower in 1971, as ALL '71 & up GM engines were SAE (Society of Automotive Engineering) rated w/respective actual NET horsepower @ the rear wheels.

    • @kickdowngarage
      @kickdowngarage  11 месяцев назад +2

      You are correct about the 4 speeds in both the 350 and 402. Only 80 402’s with the 4spd in 71. In 71 they started listing both net and gross hp. In 72 only net. And with net ratings they usually were rated at a different rpm and with accessories on so the manufacturers could manipulate the numbers. Not sure with all GM cars but I believe all Chevrolets still showed gross HP on their air cleaners. On my window sticker it still shows gross HP too

      Surprisingly for being marketed as a luxury car PS was optional. Since it was marketed as a luxury car most dealers ordered them with ps as with automatic transmissions. If I remember correctly 3 spd on the tree was the standard trans in 70 and 71, not sure for 72. This car was the original owner special ordered so he didn’t get it equipped with PS. I believe you are correct that PB was standard though.

    So as for how rare the car is thats a tough argument. I have a 1970 ss 454. Now the 4 speed cars I have been told did not have a 454 option because 70 was the last year for non emissions and the 454 option as well. Only after 70 did they start the 4 speed option. This is when it gets interesting. 1970 was the first year of this body and the only year the ss 454 was available but 71-72 were the last years for this body and the only years that the 4 speed was an option and I know for sure the 4 speed cars like the ss 454 are very hard to come by. So it's a very on the fence topic for sure.

    • @kickdowngarage
      @kickdowngarage  7 месяцев назад +1

      The SS 454s was also available in 71. You could also get a 4 spd in 70 as long as it wasn’t an SS car. All 454 SS cars in 70 and 71 came standard with automatic transmissions. In 71 269 4spd were made with a 350 and 80 with the 402. Don’t recall the exact numbers that were made in 70 with a manual transmissions but the numbers were higher then in 71. Either way not many manual transmission montes were produced including ones with a 3 on the tree.

    • @danjanes8689
      @danjanes8689 6 месяцев назад +2

      @bozyb5702 I'm wondering where you got your information because it's very inaccurate. The other reply you got is accurate. Also, the 454 was available in a Monte Carlo through the '75 models. The First Generation Monte Carlo Club website has all of the production numbers from Chevrolet. All SS454s came with a TH400. No SS454s were built with a 4 speed. A 4 speed was not part of the SS454 option package.

      @kickdowngarage You're welcome. Flint only built them for '70. The '70s were built at Flint, Van Nuys, Baltimore, and Oshawa, Ontario. For '71, Flint stopped, and Leeds started. Arlington, TX was added for '72.

    I had a 70 with a 3 on the tree, buckets, no console, 350, 3:08 posi, no p/s, bright red, blk roof and interior. I found a 4 spd console and an m21 to put in with some dual exhaust and ss tips. The car looked and ran good.

      Thanks I really tried to make everything look factory and look original. With it being 50 years old obviously some things had to be replaced do to wear and tear so it was impossible to keep it original. This was done either by me or at some point through the years. A few other things I added (stock appearing BT radio, reservoir, etc) were for function over originality but tried to keep it looking as original as possible.
