This was one of my favorite videos that you have done. In 1985, I bought a very clean 1972 monte carlo which has a Big Block 454 427 hp engine, which I have done a lot of work to it, including body work, front end replacement, new brakes. I overhauled the Turbo 400 transmission with Jags HD clutches and discs. I completely disassembled the engine and blue printed it. Had the crank balanced and polished and the block boiled. It has a 427 hp cam and double-pumper Holly carb and a dual plane after market Edlebrook intake. I added 2 1/2 inch Hooker headers and side pipes and balanced quad exhaust that exits in front of the rear tires. I balanced the drive shaft. I replaced the stock distributor and coil with a new style high voltage system. I am in the process of replacing the vinyl top and the glass. It is such a fun car to drive. It is one of my favorite cars.
Good on you for keeping it for so long.I definitely think the 70-72 is the best one.I have a 1970 blue/blue that I was cloning into a 454 SS 20yrs ago. Chris, I love this monte Carlo, I wonder how much would it cost to make it road worthy. I'm not a racer, just like to smoothly ride and look good. I owned a 1970 MC back in the day, traveled the east coast a lot. Man those were the days.

First gen Monte, my dream car. Been on the hunt for a decent one for years. The perfect mix of elegance and anger rolled up into one badass muscle car package.
That's a sweet year for the Monte Carlo. Looks like that motor and drivetrain work like a charm. She's definitely a runner. No brakestand required there... Did you get a new set of tires for the rear too? Had to ask after that "exhibition of speed" session... Lol

Two and a half inch exhaust would be fine for that car. You would probably gain a little bit more bottom end torque. 3-in exhaust is for high horsepower applications. Sweet ride! I like it!

Just like back in the day! Those mirrors were known for that since year two of there after you got them new. My neighbor bought one for his wife and it was triple blue with a 400/400 turbo and floor shifter and factory air. Was one of the nicer stock care in the neighborhood back in the mid 70's.
Chevy ought to be ashamed to throw a 305 in there those motors sucked I think they had about 42 horsepower I am exaggerating but my dad had one it wasn't that slick we can work with that 454 but hopefully at 4:54 is 70 or older not newer either way I'm watching see what happens. Wow man after you got gas I thing fired right up it's like a Chevy let's get some good pickup for a high geared rear end which is good for gas mileage on the highway as you know wow man I love to have that I got a 2000 GMC Jimmy four-wheel drive with 196,000 miles on it runs great it's a diamond edition paint job and some seat covers it'd be a good truck if you want it but I don't know how to get a hold of you and I'm not going to put my phone number on here and it's now August 26th 2022 anyway great videos bud.
One of the smartest compoents you could buy now would be a fast ratio steering gear like the one I have on my 72 Chevelle. It entirely modifies the character of the driving experience.
Agree!! Had a 12:1 box built for my 67 E.C in the 90s...now you can buy them cheap from summit. Makes a night and day difference feels like rack n pinion!
I had one of these. I shoulda.dumped the wife and kept it. More dependable, repairable, went up in value, and, I could have locked it in the Garage for 20 years without going to Prison. 😮😅
Those were the luxury muscle car's and people hardly ever done anything to em except drive em in the 70s but when the 80s and 90s rolled around people started bringing the muscle one's out but I never saw any 4speed car's unless people put a 4 speed in em ,although they probably sent em a few from the factory with a 4speed but I'm not to sure if they did...Those are hard to find these days. Man, that car sounds good and I mean good, lol. I think I'd keep it as a survivor car cause it looks really good and most or all came with a bench front seat and gear selector on column. The seats and console reminds me of Pontiac GTO bucket seats and console
It is a nice looking Monte Carlo good body style it’s a little heavy but it’s not a Chevelle. My first car was a 67 Chevelle Malibu it had a quick little 283 after some work on it. It was basically a 327.
👍👌👏 Very well done again (video and work). What a great first start! Not even 1 complete revolution and the engine fired right up. Hope that this good looking car comes to a good home. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and health to all involved life forms (humans and cute dogs). 😁 ;-)
The car had a 305ci when he got it? No wonder it ran like a dog - the car weighs over 4000 lbs. Wonder what the original engine was for this Monte? Had to be at least the 350ci. 305ci engines came along later in the mid '70s. But whatever she had... it has some real balls now!
you do a great job and enjoy your videos, I think your spinning the tires like that was excessive, glad I didn't live on that street or you'd have 4 flat tires.... just saying
Everything you go over and fix is usually done very tastefully in my family's opinion since we are and were ASE mechanical technicians. We are sure you are also experiencing how you work and tear into anything and fix it. Safely, I will add.
Glad I could your channel! Love your videos, and Gus !! My wife and I have a yorkie/dachshund, Fitz, and I spend most of my time in the garage, thanks for the tips!!
Love that Monte Carlo body style! They are a bit heavy, but the big block makes up for it. I see the bidding is up over 6k. Cool! I just wonder how much bondo is on that thing, and how thick it is in places. Being from the rust belt, not much you can do about that, and I am sure some panels will need replacing. From one PA Chris to another, keep up the great work, man. I am an old wrench (54 this year), but I always learn something new from your vids. Much appreciated, bro!
i robbed so many 12 bolt rear ends and disk brake kits out of monte carlos in wrecking yards...great donor for chevelles..buckets consoles and tilt steering were rare... but still plentiful
The Montes frame is 4 inches longer than the Chevelle between the front of the doors and rear of the front wheel openings. Referred to as the A body special or G body. Same for the Grand Prix, this frame extension continued for the Monte and Grand Prix from 73 to 77 colonades. That's why they have the massive fan shrouds. Fun fact, the Elcaminos had the 4 inch longer fenders too.
That's bad ass I use to have a 1971 and a 1973 Monte Carlo the 71 had a 454 big block it was blue with black interior and the 73 I had was white with black interior that had a 350 small block till I blew it up and put a big block in it anyway that car is bad ass

I can listen to that engine idle all day sounds so good
I'm in agreement with your statement! What a great sounding motor with the 3-in exhaust
Awsome car wow lots of tork beautiful buy nice power. That under body look so solid lots of potential.
Right on!
Nice hot rod and I hope you find a new home for it. How’s the fury wagon did you sell it to.?
Yeah Buddy!!!! That things going to be a ripper!!!!!!! Put the front tires on the back and they will be round in no time 😂
It is a nice looking Monte Carlo good body style it’s a little heavy but it’s not a Chevelle. My first car was a 67 Chevelle Malibu it had a quick little 283 after some work on it. It was basically a 327.
What a sweet sweet ride bro. My first car in 1986 I was 16 and it was a 76 Montecarlo with swivel bucket seats I loved it . Way to go brother.
Excellent video! (as always) You may heve contributed to some1970 Monte Carlo demand out there in the collector world!
Leave that bottom trim off. In Midwest its just spot for rust to hide. Plus it looks more like a Nascar/hotrod w/chrome off
It's so satisfying watching you work. You don't mess around.
Hard to flip cars anymore I wind up liking them. This would be tempting to keep but know I Couldnt afford to do it right
👍👌👏 Very well done again (video and work).
My 71 Chevy truck has the same rotors on the front. Cool Monte Carlo.
you do a great job and enjoy your videos, I think your spinning the tires like that was excessive, glad I didn't live on that street or you'd have 4 flat tires.... just saying
Everything you go over and fix is usually done very tastefully in my family's opinion since we are and were ASE mechanical technicians. We are sure you are also experiencing how you work and tear into anything and fix it. Safely, I will add.
I was a muscle car maniac since 1970....and I'd never drive the b'Jesus out of my cars like that. No respect.
This is My dream car, had a 86 Monte. It's hard to year one Montes nowadays
Glad I could your channel! Love your videos, and Gus !! My wife and I have a yorkie/dachshund, Fitz, and I spend most of my time in the garage, thanks for the tips!!
The first gen Monte Carlo is my favorite she is beautiful I love it! I may try to bid on it!
I don't care what you paid for this car, I think you about stole it for the money and work that was already put into it.
I agree
Cool car, currently 3,000 on ebay at the time if leaving this comment. I could see this car going for 5,000 to 7 or 8 grand, definitely worth it.
I wonder where it ended up?

Your 1970 monte is way nicer than that 80s junk. 👍🇺🇸✌️🍺
Hell yeah! looks AWESOME!!
Damn that’s a beautiful car! Love the random bolt flying off lol
i robbed so many 12 bolt rear ends and disk brake kits out of monte carlos in wrecking yards...great donor for chevelles..buckets consoles and tilt steering were rare... but still plentiful
I didn’t know that and owned both Chevelles and Monte Carlos. Nice info to have👍
The engines are almost far enough back to be considered mid engine.

Love your videos, great work, I’m currently addicted to these kinds of car/ truck revival videos! You and Derek at Vice Grip Garage are my favorites!
NNKH is SO much better (read:genuine) than VGG. Dereks gimmicky baby language gets old.
@@DannebergAcres I watched him also, I’m not picky about who I watch
My two favorite revival channels as well … both are great in their own ways and will probably meet some day…
@@mikeferraro8917 They met at DuckTapeDrags. Derek signed Chris' El Camino "going to town rig". Didn't help its value. LOL!
That's bad ass I use to have a 1971 and a 1973 Monte Carlo the 71 had a 454 big block it was blue with black interior and the 73 I had was white with black interior that had a 350 small block till I blew it up and put a big block in it anyway that car is bad ass
Had a 72'. Loved it. Really nice 70' Monte! Are we fixing the cracked frame before selling? That is what ended my Monte' sadly. Both sides :-(
Find a 1965 Pontiac TEMPEST.. and then do a video restoration if it's in decent enough condition.
