This guys lived basically his whole life in prison...I'm surprised he lived and STILL had a calm happy mind. Insane.
Crazy to think that maybe a life incarcerated gave him things he couldn’t have had on the outside. Who knows what other reality would have waited for him. I suppose going away so young, it just becomes another way of life. It’s hard to read that fact but I would like to think he found some sort of comfort in the life that he did have inside, hopefully made friends and still had some meaningful experiences. He’s probably just grateful to spend a bit of time outside now. Truly scary any way you look at it though, it’s just such a long time.
When they told him he was going home he asked who was going to sweep the floor, I was in court with him. Crimes he didn't commit btw

Why plead guilty if the punishment was going to be life without parole? Was the death penalty on the table for 15 year olds at that time? Avoiding a death sentence would be the only reason to plead guilty for a life without parole sentence.
Keep in mind this was back in 1952 in the era before the Civil Rights Movement. This guy was probably pressured and coerced into pleading guilty and likely didn’t get the same level of legal representation as a wealthier defendant.
