that looks real good. when we did the upstairs, for the first room we took off the baseboards, and decided that was just too much. after that we followed your technique.
Good job. I have built many custom homes and they all use Quarter round. It is a legit architectural design detail. I don't think it's a "cheat or hack". I personally like the real 3/4"x3/4" round with tall base board. Shoe is ok with shorter baseboards or a cheaper project. Good video
This was definitely a shorter one here. Don’t know if it’s my favorite design with a shorter trim. But for the timeline we had, this was the way to go :)
To each their own. On renovation I can let shoe molding slide. On brand new builds. No reason for shoe or 1/4 round molding. All those trim do is collect dirt on top. Two scenarios I would keep the baseboard on. Old antique woodwork on a very old house. (But even so I might try to R&I) 2: baseboards with 5 layers of caulk and paint on them. Other then those two factors I always remove base. I cringe when brand new builds have them. To me is just an added expense the builder charge to more so rip you off.
Thanks Emily you deserve your own tv show, you do such a great job explaining things.

I completely understand. It takes a lot of extra time to pull it all off. And also to buy more if you replace it all!
Great tips, thanks for the post. I enjoy short cuts and get'r done.
Thanks for watching!

I don’t love the look either. But for a rental that stuff is frequently getting destroyed at- this was the way to go for us in this situation :)

Not every wall has trim. The idea of a low maintenance home includes having no molding
