Bunjie (The O.B.) is a 2010 Excalibur Axiom Crossbow. After more than a decade of killing deer, hogs, squirrels, woodchucks, and even a bear, Bunjie is now semi-retired. Enter Bunjie III (or Bunjie '21, Bunjie 3.0, The Slick Black Cadillac of Crossbows) a 2021 Scorpyd Deathstalker 420, the result of trying various models and looking at dozens of them online for characteristics I liked. It is, in fact, a gift from a Friend of Bunjie, which goes to show how important Friends of Bunjie are to this channel and what an impact they can have. Bunjie III is a testament to modern crossbows, producing over .7 slugs of momentum and almost 140 ft-lbs of kinetic energy with stock arrows--at nearly 400 fps!

Hey Rich, Love the videos! Bought my crossbow 2 years ago after watching every video you ever made 🤣. Along with mountains of research. I also chose the rage hypodermic crossbow braodhead because the tech at crossbow manufacturer recommended. So far 5 shots 5 kills. All passthrough from 26 to 46 yards. 4 deer and 1 coyote. The coyote was 46 yards. From my limited experience penetration is not an issue. Thanks again for what you do!
Great video I accidentally bought the 3-inch wacker compound bow broadheads the black ones and they work perfectly fine in a crossbow

I know I’m late to the party here, but I’m a big fan of Swhacker broadheads
As a matter of fact, I shoot the 100 125 and 150 from my crossbows and the 150 is my preferred broadhead in all of those. What I find interesting is that if you go on Swhacker website and look at the Q&A section they state that there is no difference between their regular heads and those marked crossbow. The retailers wanted head marked crossbow as a sales point.
I also shoot REK, Sevr, NAP FOC, and all of these perform well and fit my bolts very well. I know that NP and sever also make vertical bow heads so I’ve never compared those.
20 years ago I worked in a bow shop and started using Rocket broadheads. I bought I large quantity of these, and killed elk, mule deer, bears, and lots of Pennsylvania whitetails. At some point I received a very serious neck injury, and started using a crossbow. I never cared about the step up in the ferrule because it is so close to the blades that I figured the blades would be holding the tension of the ferrule ate that point. I know it doesn't appear that you get less penetration by doing that. However I do think most broadheads are made in one factory in China, and the difference in the expensive version is just the sharpening process.
I believe the difference is just in the quality control. stuff that would have been rejected due to blemishes can now be sold due to the lower (or even lack of) quality control
I did a video on broadhead "Friction Features" and this is one of the things I addressed. You can use a stone and round off the edge of your arrow insert to reduce it, if not eliminate it as a friction feature. I would not ground off too much however,or you might weaken the insert.
Hi Rich, I love all your very informative videos!!!! So ,I live in New York State and I came across one of your videos you made last summer about NY legal crossbows. well, i wanted to give you a update with the laws governing crossbows... SO, here in New York we have a organization called New York Bowhunters Association... This organization is a staunch opponent of crossbows being included in all of archery season... there argument is it's a unfair advantage compared to compound bows.. they say it's more like a rifle instead of a bow(scope, trigger, shoots further).. They have deep pockets to persuade and lobby against NYS legislation voting on full inclusion in Archery Season. So, they threw us crossbow hunters a small bone a number of years ago... They put unfounded restrictions on the specifications as you talked about in your video.. We can only use them the last two weeks of our Archery Season and the big kicker is you have to buy a Muzzleloader tag to use your crossbow during Archery Season!!!!! Yes, NYS is really in the dark ages for crossbows!!!!! Now ,hot of the press!!! just a few weeks ago, news spread via Social media. That NYSDEC legal team challenged the current laws. Stating that they prevented individual with physical disabilities i.e. (shoulder issues) to hunt with a crossbow in NYS... They used The federal American Disability Act and won there case against the State!!!!! So ,now people with a debilitating injury that prevents a individual from drawing or holding a compound bow, can obtain a permit "Unmodified crossbow" as the DEC likes to call it... As long as a doctor signs the form you'll receive a special permit to use the crossbow the entire archery season... you still have to follow the same specifications on crossbows... It's a small victory for total inclusion in Archery Season.. I think in my opinion this legal victory has opened the door for full inclusion without restrictions for crossbows in NYS.. I think the future looks bright for crossbows here in NYS...

My Rage hypodermic never let me down. If it's not broke, I don't fix it. Even the collarless. Hit where my field points hit. You can use the newest ' greatest ' thing that comes down the pike. Good on you. I'll not change until I run out of them. Most of my shots are 20 yards and under. Up close and real personal. Although 40 yards is always do able. Plus some of us can't afford to change. Thanks for the thought.
Anecdotally, I have been interchanging crossbow and vertical bow broadheads for years, with no noticeable difference in performance between either.
It actually happened by accident at first, but never had aproblem, so I just kept going with it.
I was primarily using the Rage line of mechanicals in 125 gr but in the last few years, actually gone down to 100 gr, and have been getting good results with the Grim Reapr SS
Had awesome results with grim reaper pro series last weekend in my killer instinct diesel x, blew right through the shoulder plate of a mule deer at 60 yards and kept going ended up in his stomach! Ps they are rated for crossbows and I will keep using them! BTW they match my killer instinct bolts perfectly....
I use #200 Swhackers. They are 125gr 2.25" cut broadheads with bladelock. In addition to the screw for changing blades, they have a second screw that you can lock the blades closed with and use all your heads for practice. when it is time to hunt you put the screw in the storage position and close the blades with either the rubber bands or little green plugs that go in the lock up hole. I love these heads and they do in fact match up perfectly with my arrow diameter.

It is called a crossbow head in the description on the website. Oh well I really don't think it matters whether the head is "crossbow specific" or not as long as the weight gets you what you want from your arrows. I like to shoot heavier so I used a heavier head, some guys want all the speed so they use 100gr or less. ive seen 85gr heads before, so somebody must be buying them...
If you use magnus stingers get the killer bee version as it is 11 32s,or crossbow bolt size.
Magnus Black Hornet and the G5 Montec crossbow head fit my arrows nicely. I even got a pack of swhackers 3 inch to try out. I do prefer the heads match the insert diameters
Those 125s were for low powered compound arrows. I changed the collars from black to red. The dead deer didn't know the difference. Used in my Centerpoint amped.
Last season i used Rage Hybrids for the first time..on my crossbow and my compound…and crossbow heads were orange…the compound red….it seems like the compound was just a tiny bit less beefy. They were the same price at my local bow shop. For years I used Toxic’s and they are exactly the same for Crossbow and compound even though they came in different packages….also the same price. Ive always wondered if there was an actual difference.
I am with you. I want to disturb the airflow over and around the arrow head and shaft as little as possible. If the ferrule diameter is not flush with the arrow shaft, you will disturb airflow and probably affect accuracy.
Yes, you are correct about the broadhead’s the crossbow version is more for higher fps so it won’t open in flight. You can test this on a milk jug….. compound hunters can use crossbow heads, but crossbows can’t necessarily use compound heads because they might open in flight…. I am using sevr 125 grain 1.75 in my ravin r20 this year I cannot wait for the season

It’s my understanding that the Rage crossbow broadhead collar is supposed to help blade retention out of the crossbow due to increased speeds. G5 uses collars on their mechanicals, but I’m not sure if they offer a different collar.
Try out that 150gr sevr broadhead. Swhacker was my #1 go to for years but after trying these out I don't think I'll be going back. Good hunting 👍🏻
I've used nap sling blades on my killer instinct 380 maybe a slight difference. I never used the crossbow ones and never had a issue with the standard version killed several deer with them none made it more than 50 yds
Ramcat makes their mechanicals for crossbow and vertical bows so all you need is one head and that’s how they advertise them.
Rich.ive left several comments on several of your videos. I've been a die hard swhaker fan for the last 5 years. I've recently ran into a couple problems. I video my own hunts so i get to go back and reveiw my shots. I've recently shot 2 whitetail deer with them. One hit bone and deflected strait down into the dirt. I lost the deer. The 2nd one went thru clean pass through. And the blade either did not open or some freak of nature happend and the animal lived. It came back 2 days later to my feed. I actuly got a 2nd opratunitu at the deer. And got her good. She ran about 80 yrds and pilled up. That being said. I did not have any blood to speak of going to recover her. I've noticed over the years all the deer I've shot with them usuly dont run over 100 yrds. But they're never is a good blood trail. I've actuly had 3 that ran into thick stuff and i almost did not find them to no blood trail. Have you experience any of this??
Actually, no. All of the shots we've had probably two dozen deer between me and Genevieve are pretty consistent. Blood Trails range from decent to phenomenal. Deer Run up to 50 yards. Never had one go past that. All of the shots are 1 in opening and three inch exit. Most shots up front through the shoulder. What are you using for a crossbow?
I use the NAP compound killzone broadheads In my Excalibur micro 355 and haven't had any issues
I work in the archery dept. at a Cabela’s. Most arrows have an outside diameter of 9/32, while most bolts have an outside diameter of 11/32. Personally, I don’t think the 1/16 of an inch will matter in regards to performance of the bolt. I do, however, think it it is necessary to have the proper crossbow collar for use with crossbows. Broadheads like Grim Reaper and Rage NC’s are held together without the use of a collar or band, but the spring mechanism is stouter for crossbows. The general advice I give, is if you shoot mechanical broadheads, shoot the crossbow version and, if you shoot fixed broadheads, it doesn’t matter.
I use G5 Mega Meats. I don’t know if they are the same diameter or not. I do know they cut huge holes and leave awesome blood trails. They fly the same as the practice point. Very happy with them.

Swhacker says that they do make their crossbow broadheads with a larger diameter ferrule so that they will operate correctly.
Those blades are so long they have to be a certain width at the base, so that doesn't surprise me!
The 3" Swhackers appear to be exactly the same. I have both on hand.

If I read it correctly, the Ashby Bow Hunting Foundation principles recommend the shaft diameter be 5% smaller than the broadhead ferrule diameter; results in greater penetration and lethality.
Yep, some true to that, not really relevant to crossbows because there's enough momentum without that consideration, but if I was going to go that route I would also prefer to have outsserts on arrows to make the change in diameter smooth. Plus, keep in mind, that you're not going to get ferrules bigger than our crossbow arrows generally.
Yes if you are going to have something smaller it is better that the head is oversized however things to consider. Ashby used a bow not a crossbow. That over sized head helps to maximize a pass through because of less drag. Most crossbows if not all are well into and over 115lb draw no one is using vertical bows with such power i do not think ashby went past 65 himself. He also used 600 plus grains so at that point the arrow dynamic and penetrating factor are mute as 600 will go through everything always no matter what of the other factors are considered.
Arrow structural integrity being the absolute main one. But even Ashby will acknowledge flush is better than having a wider arrow or bolt.
Also all of Ashby’s reports can be summed up to 0.7 slugs of momentum or better and you will have no problems with passthroughs. His whole report is that it is possible to have a one arrow fits all. And as you see with OB 81 yards dead critter. But distance is a factor to whether or not a setup will passthrough. And at 80 yards OB is probably back to 0.4 or less.
Hey Rich possible new test what is the momentum of crossbows once they go past 50 yards? Well at least the ones you have.
@chrisruzsa2798 that's a great question, and believe it or not, with my current Arrow setup the OB shoots .67 slugs or so at launch, but at 80 yards it's only down to .65 slugs! Remember speed goes down but weight does not haha. You can check these things out on the calculators on deathbybunjie.com
@@chrisruzsa2798Ashby's favorite bow was a 115lb long bow. He used that bow throughout the Natal study until he was forced to leave Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) under very unfortunate circumstances and his bow was broken by locals raising his house. That bow took both white rhinos that started the study.

Rich Rich Rich, you can absolutely use the blue hypodermic broadheads in your left hand and all you have to do is order a extra pack of the RED plastic collars or whatever they are called and keep the black ones that come in the Rage Hypodermic package because you never know when you might need them and keep practicing buddy!! This is a great tip, for a minute there I thought I was going to have to buy a compound bow LOL but seriously that's a great point and I can just use those rages if I ever go back to 100 grain, thanks 100%
I have Spitfire 100 gr Broadheads and I used them with my Compound and then just kept using them when I got the Crossbow. Zero problemo.

I believe the only difference is going to be the retaining system. I may be wrong but why redesign what is selling? Now you may think I’m backing the companies, I assure you I am not! Swahaker has been my partner in the woods ever since I tried them! many years ago. The only downside was the retaining band. It dry rots between seasons. That’s why I throw them away right away because I don’t know how long they sat on the shelf! Every new season I install my own shrink tube bands. Yep replaced them for pennies on the dollar every year! Have never had a broad head OUT perform them Swhackers
I use all 3 weights for different purposes!

Been saying this for years the only difference is the collar.
They package them in different packages just to give a crossbow scew.
I feel like this isn't much of an issue.The reason is that the blades cut ahead of the collar & allow the rest of the arrow to go through without much resistance.If the collar was in front of the blades I think it would make a difference.I've been using WASP Jakhammers that are designed for vertical bows for years in my crossbow with great results.I do use 2 O-rings on them to prevent premature opening.They do seem to be the same diameter as my crossbow arrow though.

I use Muzzy Trocar crossbow style same size as my Quill arrows 125grn.they shoot like field points Rich penatratoin is unbelievable.
I use the same. Gallons of blood pour with those Muzzys
I shoot the Rage no collet and have not found any problems. My R10 Ravin loves them.
I have the Excalibur GRZ2 with 150 gr regular Excalibur broadheads.
Last year got two deer with a rifle but this year its GRZ2 time.
Two hunting spots are 20 meter and 33 meter to a tree.
My hunting buddy have an Excalibur 340 and don't know which crossbow to use for the kill shot.
One position is from a blind and other one from a treestand.
I have both 150 gr , swackers regular and crossbow, they are the same, As far as Rage , they can always say that the red collar is a high energy collar, and we cannot disprove that, it could be the same collar just different color, but the shrink bands on the Swackers look the same.
All I know is the Swhacker 150-grain got me my 8-point last year. I bought more right after. :)
I love Wasp Drone and Boss now gonna try the 4 blade Dart I'm big on pass throughs mechanicals with me have to much resistance for that my Excalibur Grizzly getting around 300 fps.
I use the NAP Spitfire Maxx. 1 3/4” cut. I love them and have had no problems. I love the design where it doesn’t use the collar. Maybe a topic for another video: collar vs no collar. But on the packages for the Spitfires, one says Compound Bow and the other says Crossbow/Compound Bow.
The NAP sling blade Ti 2blade broadheads don’t have a collar either. It’s a free floating rear deploying free floating blade design with a 2 3/16” opening. Inertia keeps them closed until impact. No collars or mechanical gizmos to fail imo. KIS method… keep it simple. Nothing fancy about the broadhead and no one is spending a zillion dollars in advertising making up stories of how great something “is not”. I use to use the original Rocky Mountain gator 100 grain broad heads when they first came to market in the 90’s. The chisel tip versions…not the snipers with the weak cut in contact bladed tip that would bend over and brake on rib bones and fail to pass though. The original chisel tip version would blow though deer and leave entry and exit hole that looked like I stuck a machete through the average deer. Ten foot wide double lung brood trails were common and most deer fell within sight with a proper shot placement. The gator style broad heads are nothing new, not expensive, ver were xbow rated, and worked better than any broad head I’ve tried to date.
I’ve used NAP Killzone in the past with 2” cut. Spring clip retention system. They were very durable and every deer I shot died very quickly!
If you guys like Spitfires+Killzones, try the Doublecross! Its a mixture of the 2- front+rear deploying. I have a pic of a doe that I shot w/them; long story, but I had to shoot her in the throat. There is a 5-6" gash(idk how THAT happened) in the front of her neck, died instantly(juglar). Idk how I can show you the pic, but it is GRUESOME looking!

I noticed the diameter problem with Rage Hypo NC Crossbow. After losing blades when they hit ribs on the entry side I switched to G5 Montec Crossbow heads and they’re undersized as well. The industry is still a little prejudiced against crossbows in my opinion but as popularity increases they’ll be forced to bite the bullet and actually manufacture rear crossbow heads.

Yes, the Swuhacker #243 and #251 have the same diameter. They in fact are completely identical in all aspects, other than color. Same story for the 100gn and 125gn versions. I have owned and inspected them all. The #207 (the green ones) do have a narrower ferrule diameter, though. But they are the only example of this out of all the "classic" style Swuhackers.
Can I shoot the green ones safely out of my 400fps crossbow ? Like I guess what I’m asking is if it would be such a liability that it would affect the game itself? I wouldn’t want it to suffer .

243 & 251 are identical, specs are identical, replacement blades & rubber bands are identical, ferrule diameter are identical. The only difference is the color of the ferrule.

I got some collarless rage broad heads with that scorpyd ventilator I bought. Im pretty sure it came with the compound bow style rage heads. I hope they’ll be ok with that crossbow. I may give them shot anyways😂
Give the sevr broadhead a try. I think it’s the best headband for crossbows

might be a weight thing too, designing an all steel that matches crossbow width is probably hard without getting over weight compared to aluminum
I have found the knock off rage to be just as effective and way cheaper . I believe I paid $18.00 for 2 dozen broad heads So I will stick with them until there used up and I buy something else. 😊

@@randym4077eBay and Amazon they're definitely not as sharp as the name brand and they seem to rattle a little bit with the rage red collar on them ( they come with black), but they work I shot a nice eight with one.

Swha-hakers all. The Way!! No doubt the most reliable head out there for Hunting.i actuly use a compound bow and a x bow.i love how swha-hakers has a head for both and they actuly are made for each.
Ok so maybe you could test the rage and rage crossbow heads for us. Simply install one of each onto a bolt and then press each into a target to see if there is a resistance difference to deploy the blades.
I'd be more concerned about broadhead integrity though
My guess is they are both tough as nails, perhaps the only difference being retention strength.
I have called g5 broadheads and they say the same thing as I stated before there is no difference in compound vs crossbow just the collar and they need a crossbow scew. Fixed heads are no different just one says crossbow and one doesn’t.
I am using slick trick, standard hundred grain broad heads on 10 point pro elite arrows with my crossbow. Yes there is a bit of a step up. They do not match up. But everything I’ve ever shot with this. It goes right through it. I can’t say anything about the cross bow version SLICKTRICK has.
Slick Trick Standards & Magnum (their original) have identical 100 & 125 grain ferrules. The ONLY difference is the blade width. You could shoot Magnum blades in a Standard ferrule & Standard blades in a Magnum ferrule. I think the Xbox is identical to the Magnum (same blades) with a 150 grain ferrule option added.

I do Appreciate a good rant here and there. Iv seen a few of your videos now where you have busted up blades after a kill and you seem to have long track jobs. I have switched from mechanical heads to fixed blades. Cut on contact, good blade integrity and learn to sharpen. Alot of things will come together. Just give it a think. Keep it up.

Nobody likes long track jobs. It's just an observation. I used to use thunderheads, then I switched to rage. I found the blades open up to a very obtuse angle that takes alot of effort to push through game. If you bend a blade on a rib penetration stops. I shoot the Magnus stingers now. I'm pulling arrows out of trees and dirt from the exit side of the critter. I have fought the fight especially with pigs. Please don't be upset with me just trying to help out

Me and my boys have bean shooting rage for many years ( I shoot crossbow and they shoot vertical) and the only thing we ever swap out is the different collars
I never even figured on a difference in broadheads when I just got my first crossbow (wrath430X), until I watched this video. But after checking, all of my old broadheads are the perfect size from my Rocky Mt. Razors 125g to my mechanical Gators 100g.👍 I can't find any reason to not use them.
How u like that bow? I almost got that one but decided on the CP 400 instead, as it was a little lighter and a salesman said that it was very hard to get parts for the wrath. I Do love the cp though!
@@mr.skeptical3071 so far I love it but it is front heavy. Funny story, I actually ordered and paid for a Sniper Elite $256. But received the 430X package! ($530+) no extra charge!🤯 And really thankful it came with a crank. I'm quite short and didn't realize how much that affects cocking it. So yeah heavier than I would prefer, but WOW compared to my old compound bow.
I use GrimReaper crossbow heads. They match the shaft. The only problem with the GrimReapers is the largest head they offer for crossbows is 1 1/2” 3 blade. They do off a 2” 2 blade crossbow head.
I do like the Grim Reapers, 2" pretty good too
I use chisel tip rage on a 22in carbon express piledriver and I shoot threw the shoulder.. they drop. Don't go 20.
I’ve shot many different broadheads over the last 40 years and most do what you expect them to do. I do sharpen my broadheads out of the package. Believe me, try it and you’ll see why. All in all, I shoot the rage hypodermic and like that I can rebuild them. IMO, for most people it’s about price and that’s very understandable in today’s market. Shoot true and good luck to all the hunters!

I think the main reason is to save customer service calls. "Can I use x that doesn't say crossbow with a crossbow? "When are you going to make a cross ow version of x?"

it also frustrates me that there is not a smooth transition screw in conversion for a regular sized broad head to Crossbow size arrow. Or at-least I have not been able to find one? I hunt both with crossbow and a normal compound bow. I usually take the crossbow if I’m going to sit on the ground and use compound if im in a tree. I used to use Rage but had some bad experiences. So now I use Kudu broad heads on both, but on my crossbow set up the Kudu has a large gap in size stepping up to the crossbow Bolt. If just in soft tissue maybe not an issue, however on heavy bone I think it affects penetration. I shot a buck last year with crossbow quartering to, from the ground and hit heaviest bone, split the ball of the humorous and got 4-5” penetration into the chest cavity. Not a pass through but luckily into his heart and he went down in 60-70 yards. I feel that 550 grain set up with two blade single bevel broadhead could have achieved a pass through with no gap in size between broadhead and bolt. See video below if interested.

My boy friend shot a big buck with crossbow ( Barnett 150 lb ) with swacker broad head 100 grain & never found the buck did pass threw but broad head never opened , went back to muzzy ( no problem since ,
Still a 1" hole though even if it didn't open...same size as the Muzzy...
I hunt both crossbow and compound and to try and make like easier I wanted to have 1 broadhead. I contacted swhacker and they said the only difference is the ferrel size and I could use the crossbow broadhead for both.
Thorn 125 are little smaller than pro flight. Wasp sledgehammer 150 are the same size as 150 swhacker and they all work well

I didn't even know Swhacker made a 3" for compound bows. I thought the green 2" and the silver 1.75" were the ones for compounds. Learn something new everyday.
The collar of the rage is denser for the crossbow head, as I was told and that is the only difference.
You could easily verify this as fact or fiction by using your scale and a cutting blade to see what each piece requires (pressure) to be cut through. drill press would give you control in such a discovery, I would think.
As to the ferrule...
Arrows will vary as to O.D. and so will broadhead ferrules. There are adapters which can be purchased separately to make the transition and are sold specifically to address this issue.

Bigger is better for increased penetration (as you pointed out) when saying too large is preferable.
This has been the selling point for tapered shafts, for many decades now.

Adapters really don't do it for me. It's one thing to shoot them in the backyard but to hunt with something like that kind of bothers me. I don't like the idea of an extra joint. Seems to me that is just another spot to weaken Arrow integrity and risk a breakage. Just seems that way, I'm not basing that on anything.

well ill add my 2 cents the only difference in the rage is the collar the ccrossbow rage has a stiffer collar for the harsh shot of a xbow. most xbow heads have a bigger feral to align with the bigger diameter of the xbow arrow-bolt..

When target practicing your field point is supposed to be slightly smaller than the collar on the arrow insert. Easier removal of arrow from target no drag.

Never seen different diameters offered in broadheads just field points and if you can't find the exact diameter to match your insert for a smooth transition your better off your field point being g a little smaller than your insert.
I shoot the mosey don’t remember the name right now I’m out in the middle of the road crossbow Broadhead’s with the expandable blades on it and mine are definitely the same as my arrow. I noticed that before with some of the brands, and when I went to the store to buy them, I need the guy try them on for me. That’s why I don’t have a package.
I’ve found the bolt shaft is always larger than the broadheads that fit flush with arrows. Never put a whole lot of further thought into it.
I don’t use mechanicals. I used one, once and it failed and was one of the first deer (and only) deer that Hooke 27 hours to recover. Just me but it turned me off of them. I’ve got a buddy that uses them and he’s LOST several deer. So I don’t use them and don’t allow them to be used on my property. I much prefer a heavy single bevel COC head. I get why guys use them, they’re excellent when the work. I just like to remove all variables and why take the chance, I use a KI Boss 405 w/22” Juggernaut bolt with 175-200 grain Cleaver single bevels. I’ve have all pass throughs on all 12 does I’ve taken the last 3 years. Not throwing shade on the low weight, fast mechanical head guys, I just stick with what has worked for me. 👍
First deer I ever lost was with a tiny little mechanical. As much as I'd love to blame it on that tiny little broadhead, it had more to do a shot placement than anything else. But give me bigger any day of the week.
That's why I save my money and use my G5 megameats on both my compound and crossbow

My rage broadheads are supposed to be good up to 450 fps. I like the video great job. I wish I saved the package that my broadheads came in. I know they were 75 or 80 dollars for three. 😅

It’s my understanding that crossbow broadheads are made a bit stronger and can withstand higher speeds. Certainly the retention collars are stronger or more rigid to prevent release in flight.
In regards to one particular model, NAP Killzone, ferule construction appears to be different and materials are different. Blade thickness should be heavier. Don’t know if this is always the case.
I can tell you, as you would expect, the TenPoint Nitro 505 puts tremendous impact forces on broadheads. Many broadheads that would be fine, in all other crossbows, but would be suspect in the 505. For this kind of speed, it is important that you use diligence to seek out broadheads that are the strongest & most rigid.
I resist using fixed broadheads in crossbows, particularly when dealing with higher speeds. I believe that good modern mechanical heads are one of the things that make crossbows shine.
I guess the actual difference between a crossbow broadhead and vertical head regarding mechanicals is blade retention strength. That’s the real difference. Additional strength of construction is only a desirable feature, not always a fact.
I have always wondered the difference! When I shot a crossbow in 2009 and 2010, I shot a doe each year with standard rage 2 blade “compound” heads😂😂😂
theres really no differnce in the broadhead its self its literly the plastic part thats differ otherwise crossbow and compound bow broadheads are the same atleasde in rage broadheads i havnt used any others so i can tell on them lol
I think you’re splitting hairs here. The thing that is most important is arrow flight with a broadhead attached to your arrow. I’ve never heard anyone complain that their Ferrell was too big/small so they got a bad shot on an animal. Never heard of integrity issues either. What does matter most are anything protruding off your broadhead in flight. Any broadhead with protruding blades or fins will cause the arrow to fly differently than a practice point. Prove me wrong. That is why I use Thorne broadheads exclusively. Fly just like a practice point and hit where you aim. No worries of fins grabbing limbs on the way to the animal or aerial loop de loops! Wound channel is massive with the rift! Anyway, have a good day and thanks for the video!

NAP, when I questioned them many years ago, stated that the only difference in their heads was the diameter of the ferrule.

All joking aside. Been using Sevr broadheads since 2021. They have one model tailored for crossbows simply because it is 150gr. But they are very up-front that all of their heads are made for both crossbow and vertical bow, with no speed/acceleration limits. Great company!

Good topic but I don’t think it matters as long as the ferrule mates to the insert flush. The blades are going to open a huge hole anyway making any diameter mismatch a non issue. Marketing people are going to steer us to what grabs our attention and if you shoot a crossbow many won’t feel 100% unless they shoot a crossbow specific head. I don’t think that matters either. If you have a head that performs well … I say use it. If you shoot a vertical bow and like a crossbow marketed broadhead I say use it. I use a sevr robusto 150 marketed as a crossbow head but I know a lot of vertical compound shooters that use that model. John Lusk would be a good person to get an opinion from on this topic. I’m no expert just throwing out my opinion. THANKS RICH!

China rage,and China lighted knocks ????I use all the blades as replacements in a true rage Ferrell works mint and I think the China rage blades actually feel sharper??? 36 broad heads for 40$ approx and 6 lighted crossbow knocks for 20$ approx ???these companies can keep thr expensive packaging I don't hunt with that part????
All the Rage broadheads are made in China and assembled or packaged in the states as are most all broadheads. Been shooting Rage for a long time. Their blades are a one and done for me al!ost all of my shots. They are either bent, broken, or chipped so bad they can't be resharpened or used again. Also I always resharpened the new blades before use as most were not as sharp as they should be when new. Lots of people using the knockoffs now since they are also made in China but much cheaper.
Any experience with the Swhackers opening unintentionally during flight? I shoot a 400 fps xbow, purchased the 125gn Swhacker crossbow broadheads, was wondering if I needed a second elastic band (double them up) just in case. Thanks.
No problems here, fingers crossed lol but 2 bands sounds good. Swhacker says faster ones gets 2 bands too
