    Great content I just switched to swacker 150gr I was shooting 100 gr rage I can wait to try them in the 2nd season here in pa I shoot a centerpoint amp415 and the scope is dead on out to 40 yards with the swacker 150 gr and love the penetration much more than the 100gr

    Rich, thanks again for a great video. Lots of info in there. I have used Swhacker in the past and have recently come full circle back to them. They really do leave an incredible exit hole. Question...Have you ever had a deer not drip any blood after using those. It has happened to me on two occasions. With using a compound a few years ago, and, just recently this year with a crossbow. Both times the deer was quartering to me. The broadhead entered just behind the shoulder and exited just passed the last ribs on the opposite side. Both times HUGE hole on exit, but, due to the quartering too angle and the downward angle from shooting from the tree stand, the exit wound was plugged with guts and bled internally only. Even the fur around the exit hole was as clean as the rest of the deer. Thankfully both deer were recovered. I just have to remember to have more patience and wait for that perfect broadside shot.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Год назад

      I've never had that happen to me but I will say that if the exit wound is through the opposite shoulder then it does seem to block some of the blood as the deer runs and moves the shoulder in front of the hole if that makes any sense. So the blood is farther apart. But then again I've had that with every Broadhead I've ever used on occasion. It's the nature of the wound, not the broadhead. But I can tell you that across the board the performance of these is 100% consistent.

    This year I bought 3 relatively inexpensive 2 blade mechanical broadheads from Walmart. I know not a good idea but when opened they were large cut broadheads. I shot two deer with them and both had very very good blood trails. Even through I had success I recommend a better quality head such as the Schwacker.

    Good morning. I have been a compound shooter and recurve since the mid 70s. Tried a BUNCH of broadheads, some worked great so.e not so great, both fixed and mechanical. Several years ago I switched to the Shwacker 2 blade with great success. couple years ago I went to the Shwacker 3 blade mechanical!! Holy " bungie" those performed amazing! This year I started shooting a cross bow and used the Shwacker 3 blade mechanical with GREAT SUCCESS, a beautiful 9 ptr. Sadly I went to order more, or new blades either ones I could get, Shwacker no longer makes the 3 blade mechanical, however they do make a 3 blade fixed. I'm sure it's a great broadhead, I'm just seriously STUCK, no pun intended on their 3 blade mechanical! it's devastating!! Hopefully Shwacker will bring back their 3 blade mechanical! I will do a longer video on this someday but the reasoning is there's more arteries, the heart and lungs up front like that. In the past with archery equipment we have been taught to avoid the shoulder because of penetration issues and instead aim close to it but not at it. You may have heard it described as upfront in the vital v. The setup I have now, and other modern setups make that unnecessary.

      @@Deathbybunjie I have a Cobra Siege 300 compound which makes 300fps with 280 grain 15" arrows. And a modified Cobra RX Recurve which makes about 270fps with that same arrow. These are not large hunting crossbows like you professionals use. The advantage is that they can be cocked very easily using a lever. It should only do the job for absolute emergencies. I've seen the former head of Coldsteel hunt with it successfully. But I'm particularly interested in whether the Swhackers (1.75") can also be used to achieve a full penetration shot with the lower kinetic energy (40 - 50 ft-lb) on medium game. The Swhackers simply fly incredibly well, which could be an advantage for a completely inexperienced emergency hunters. On 20 yards hitting an apple is no problem. I’ve seen some old archery hunters that have switched to crossbow. Of course, some of the old archery knowledge that they developed from vertical bow hunting stayed with them.
    There are those who believe that accuracy alone overcomes all. I do not discount accuracy.
    What I mean is that if they use small fixed broadheads, they will have better success if the shot is placed perfectly. In other words mechanical heads are for those who are not as accurate.
    Bull!
    With archery, deer die from blood loss or exsanguination. No one can realistically place a perfect shot with every shot under field conditions every time. More tissue damage equals more blood loss.
    Faster blood loss equals quicker kill, no matter how accurate the shot is.
    Take a rubber flask filled with water and poke it with a needle.
    Now puncture it with an axe. Which pours water faster?

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Год назад +1

      Now, with the heavier arrows on The OB (563 grains total setup) and the Swahackers, yes I aim more up from. Not TOO far up front, but I'm not in the "Vital V" or "Bunjie Triangle" any more, either. Top of heart, bottom of front of lungs, where all the action is. IMO that's the new POA for modern crossbows (shooting .7 slugs of momentum or more, that's a good POA IMO). So, it's not just the Swahackers that changed my point of aim but they are a part of the overall setup. Arrow weight and speed are factors, too.

      Actually, I originally got into these broadheads for use on that old slow crossbow. They work great on it! They are part of a perfect Arrow setup on that crossbow, the rest of it being a heavier Arrow, for me around 563 grains total. Opened every time, perfectly, even opened on a watermelon last year during crossbow appreciation month!

      I really appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'm not much of a crossbow hunter or even a big game hunter. But I do go out and use the Excaliber my wife bought me (birthday) 15 years ago. I filmed a few hunts. We have only had a deer season here the past 4 years as we are pretty far north for deer. If you are curious, my channel is called "Musher's Tails." We have big deer compared to you. Trapping, dog sledding, and ,generally, my way of life are on the channel. The Firebolts are too light for the Swhacker? Should I switch to the Dragon Claw bolts? BTW: Yours is the only deer hunting/xbow channel I subscribe to. I like the family aspect and I learn stuff. Thanks for that.

    • @Deathbybunjie
      @Deathbybunjie  Год назад

      @@mushercdn the fire bolts are not heavy enough for the older slower crossbow because they don't produce enough momentum. On a more modern and faster crossbow you have a lot more options.

The swhacker came out in 150 grain and it was 2 inch groups At 40. I went with it. I killed so many deer with that 3 inch cut. Sadly I had to replace that crossbow and have to use 100 grain swhacker. Comparing a 2-blade mechanical broadhead to a 3-blade or 4-blade fixed broadhead in this manner is a bit deceptive. A 2-blade broadhead can only give you a one-dimensional cut. A tiny 4-blade Stick Standard broadhead with 1" blades is giving you a 1" + 1" = 2' of total cut, which is EQUAL to any 2" two-blade mechanical on the market. As far as flight goes, the four 1" blades may have superior flight to the two 1" blades of a Swhacker in flight. A Slick Trick Standard is their original Magnum broadhead (exact same ferrule) with 1" blades instead of their Magnum's 1 1/8" blades (= 2.25" total cut). I believe the Standards may fly better & penetrate elk better for vertical bow guys. I'm not promoting Slick Trick. I just know their blades without looking them up. It would be the same type of numbers with Magnus & other brands, too.
    I'm not knocking 3" Swhacker broadheads in the least. If you have the horsepower to push them through every time, by all means go for it on whitetails. Crossbows level the playing field, & that is why so many people love them! A 10 year old child could send one through a deer if the crossbow is set up right.
    I shot a doe & a nice 11 point buck (60 pound compound bow) this past fall using a small Slick Trick Viper Trick 4-blade broadhead (1 15/16" total cut) that I made sure was razor sharp I didn't track either deer. I heard the doe drop (vegetation was too thick to see her 50 yards from my stand in late September). I just walked to where I heard her crash. The 11 pointer took about 5 jumps, stopped to look at his side, wobbled a bit, & fell over backwards about 35 yards from my stand in early November. Who needs a blood trail? My point is any good broadhead will put a deer down quickly if a good shot is made. I shot a late season doe with a .308 Winchester 150 grain Remington Core Lokt round this past weekend. Her front shoulder was destroyed, but she ran the furthest of the 3 deer I shot this fall. I didn't see or hear her drop.
    I own a Swat X1. I just haven't taken it out of the box yet. So please don't slam me for not being a crossbow hunter. I own two of the darn things! 🤣

      @driftlesshunter9200 I totally get not changing up mid stream! I think you'll be impressed.
