My dad and I started shooting crossbows this year. I spent quite a bit more money on Wicked ridge m370, he bought a Walmart center point Patriot 425. His Arrows are cheaper, his bow is faster and he’s hitting 60 yrd bullseye more consistently. I love my wicked ridge, it’s light, built in America and seems well built. I guess my point is, more money doesn’t always equal better performance. We’ll just have to see how they both hold up a year from now. 🤷🏻
Absolutely! I was recently given a Barnett Jackal. This is my first crossbow. It’s old (10 years old), it’s relatively slow by modern crossbow standards (305-310 fps), but by golly is it accurate! My neighbor has some Killer Instinct that shoots over 400 fps. He’s frustrated because my older, slower crossbow outshoots his by a mile, and I didn’t have to spend $600 on it. It’s much more accurate than his KI and it’s quieter too!
@@2cthetruth build by the same terrible company that does not warranty anything. I've killed critter I've ever shot with a 297fps cheapy and believe me more than you ever dream of. Practice, skill, shot placement, and confidence in your equipment goes a long way.
Well said. And a crossbow won’t get more deer stopped in your shooting lane then a compound. Compound hunting is harder but crossbow hunting isn’t easy.
Lol right my 200$ crossbow shoots a 370 grain arrow 375 fps and can shoot tight groups at 45 yards with good arrows. I’ve always been a compound bow guy but my 1,600$ compound bow does nothing but collect dust anymore.
@@2cthetruthI've killed countless deer with $200 crossbows. If you take care of them they will take care of you. Barnett has the best budget bows on the market
At 70 yrs of youthfulness my eyesight was failing to adjust to peep sight, pin, and target, with a compound bow, 😮After missing a doe which thankfully I did not injure, I could either quit deer hunting,( which is an addiction) or try a crossbow. I have been hunting with a wicked ridge 370 for four years and love it. It had kept me in the game. I also hunt with one gun a Remington 1100 that I bought in 1970. Several other guns are in my possession but only get used at the range. I believe if it works why change it.
Nothing wrong with budget equipment. Nothing wrong with enjoying higher end equipment. A big thing for me if it's made in the USA and that's a deal breaker for me personally.
I still have my Mission MXB320 from around 2013. It's super accurate, quiet, lightweight, and reliable. There have been numerous times I thought about upgrading, but with all the problems I hear people having with the newer crossbows, I think an upgrade would be a downgrade lol.
I totally agree! Got a KI Bone Collector 380 for $126 at Wally on clearance, killed 5 nice bucks so far! Just grabbed a Centerpoint 405 for $106 this spring, haven’t gotten serious with it yet, it will be my backup or out of state bow.
Well said. I have been hunting successfully in Africa with my $300 crossbow for three seasons now. In my opinion less is more. A cheap crossbow might not have all the fancy bells and whistles, but that just means that it has less that can break or fail when it matters most. My "Made in Taiwan", EK Archery Ballistic 410 performs consistantly and is deadly accurate - I have no reason to even look at another crossbow.
Be proud of that crossbow. Only a handful of crossbow makers are in the USA. Most are built in Taiwan including Killer Instinct, Barnett, Bruin, Bear and others. Engineers in USA might design them, but they are built in Taiwan, including Ravin which is owned by the same company that owns Centerpoint 😉
@jonathanyates5198 ten point is made in the United States I have the titan decock and also have a wicked ridge invader 400 made here also and I haven't had any problems with them
I have been watching ur channel for quite some time now. I'm glad to see someone dedicate time to a crossbow only subject. Great videos and information u give. I've been using a crossbow since the early 90's when I had to stop shooting a compound. I have owned and shot many different brands . Ten point, Horton, Parker, PSE, Centerpoint, Killerinstinct. The 2 that I have and use now are the killerinstinct fierce405bc and wickedridge warriorG3 by ten point. Those 2 company's have the best warranty service that I have dealt with. U call and they dont give a big hassle or run around about taking care of ur issues and u can actually speak with a real person instead of emails. That's the main selling point for me in a company's product. Thanks for the great videos and info keep up the good work
Gotta say I do love these videos where you just rant about things as it gives your honest opinion and I care about your opinion you have been doing this for Alot longer than myself so your opinion has helped in some purchases. Thank you for all that your doing. Your friend from New Zealand.
Yes sir They all have issues of some sort. Nothing is made to last anymore it’s all made disposable. I unfortunately couldn’t find a crossbow I liked anymore other than my original slower Excalibur. So I went to traditional archery $170 bow and keeping it in the kill zone to 20 yards. I don’t like all these cranks and 500fps and bows you have to rely on a dealer to take care of. We shall see how this season plays out.
I have 2 Excalibur Mag 340 Everything is exactly the same on both I do the same for my battle rifles. Arrows are the same, field tips, string, Hawke XB30, same Leapers UTG rings. The bows shoot exactly the same. We learned early in the military: 2 is 1, 1 is none
I went to a different shop yesterday to try and get some advice/help for my accuracy problems with my Tenpoint. Had a fascinating conversation with the bow tech there. They sell vertical bows, but also sell Tenpoint, Mission, and Ravin crossbows. He told me if I wanted a fairly bomb-proof crossbow, buy a Mission. The only problems they seen with Mission crossbows happen when the owner does something stupid. And even then, Mission has a lifetime no-questions-asked-warranty. All they have to do is call Mission, and Mission sends the parts right out, no questions asked. He said Tenpoint seems to be looking for reasons not to do warranty repairs, and for them to have to fight with the manufacturer is frustrating. All that said, I'm now looking for a replacement for my Tenpoint, and at the moment, Mission is leading the pack. Like you, I just want a non-finicky, durable, accurate crossbow, that just works. I also want the company to not be so nit-picky about proprietary stuff (aftermarket strings/cables, arrows, etc.). And it'd be delightful if I could change my own strings/cables. Mission ticks all those boxes for me, so I"m gonna start saving up. Thanks for this series of videos, Rich. Vertical bows aren't this hard (I used to own my own bow shop, BTW); crossbows shouldn't be either.
You will get no where battling with the manufacturer. A certain one you mentioned charges the dealer shipping on warranty parts. Not much of a warranty.
As always Rich speaks with wisdom. I personally have a Tenpoint RS 440 Havoc. I can tell you that I absolutely love this crossbow. But, I’m also going to be honest here and say that there are a couple things that I don’t like about it. 1. The price 2. The loud safety switch. I don’t know anyone that does like the price of Tenpoints crossbows? The safety switch can be eased on/off very slowly to where it’s inaudible, but, I’ve clicked it off in a rush before and a nice buck that I had in range absolutely heard it and spooked. I did get him later on in the season, but that day was spoiled by the noise made from the safety switch coming off. There is absolutely nothing wrong with going to Walmart and buying two low end crossbows for what is chump change in todays crossbow market. I know several people personally who do this. Just be expecting to get what you pay for. I know some friends I hunt with who would “NOT EVER” spend the money on a newer Tenpoint crossbow, not even the money for a Wicked Ridge. Some of them are going on their third season with these cheap crossbows, and one of them has had a very bad experience with them. I guess it just depends on the luck of the draw when it comes to that kind of engineering, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this approach imo. 40 days until the archery season opens here in northeast Ohio. Wishing everyone their best season yet! 💯🏹🎯🦌🥩
@robertwhite Absolutely! Love what you have! Nothing wrong with a more economical bow. It will kill deer with impunity. The whole point is do what you love. No one should have to explain why they happened to choose a crossbow that was less expensive. But you also don’t have to explain buying one that was more expensive. Enjoy hunting! It’s all a beautiful thing!
That’s a good plan. I recently went to Bass Pro and bought the Killer Instinct Boss 405 for $300. I’ve been shooting it daily. It’s not high end, the safety is incredibly loud, the scope was garbage (switched it out with a Luepold), you can’t decock it and a few other inconveniences, but for the price I love it and I’m positive it’ll kill deer dead. Keep up the videos, I’m learning with each one.
still using a Bruin Ambush 410+ purchased in Dec of 2020. Was my first crossbow and still my only crossbow. Two seasons, two deer. works for me at the 40 yards I have it dialed in for.
You just hit the nail on the head Rich I’ve got two center point 370s got them both for under 500 dollars and that’s my back up until I get the other one fixed. No matter what you spend on a crossbow your going to have a great time!!!
My crossbow broke too. So I ordered one from Barnett. A month later it hadn't shipped so I cancelled the order due to absolutely no customer support. Trying to call them was like making a call to a government office. And they never answered the tickets I made online. So now I'm looking for an alternative thus, here I am at your channel. Instant Like and SUBSCRIBE! Greetings from Alaska.
I’ve used crossbows the last 8 years I’m 61.. prior used compounds for decades I started with sniper 370 after broken limbs on 3 occasions over 2 years I switched to ten point !! Never an issue since then in 40 plus deer over 6 years
I have a Wicked Ridge Raider 400. Had an Excalibur 355. Moved to NYS where Excaliburs are not allowed. If I could, I would go back to the Excalibur in a heartbeat.
I had my Burris oracle x less than a year and I was sighting it in and for some reason the scope kept saying 62 yards even though I was at 20 yards but the customer service was great they paid to ship it to them and with in 2 weeks I had a new scope.
That's one of Burris's pluses. They have good customer service. I had bought a DNZ scope mount that changed their torque specs from 25 in/lbs to 35 in/lbs on their packaging, "like all scopes can handle that", and my scope tube was crushed by the rings. DNZ gave me a big run around, saying all scopes that cant handle that torque are the equivalent of a junk Walmart scope. The CEO for DNZ is pretty ignorant. They post the torque specs, knowing that guys like us all are using torque wrenches like wheeler fat wrench, but CEO says to use Allan wrench, and the torque cant be achieved with a torque wrench. Are you telling me, your achieving by feel 35 inch pounds using a Allan? What a joke. So basically the CEO said, we post a torque spec on packaging, but it cant be achieved with common tools we know outdoorsman/hunters, gun enthusiast would commonly be using, in the industry (like a wheeler fat wrench), to just use a Allan.
I bought a new crossbow last year. I did my due diligence by researching on line. But. When it came to the purchase I went to a large local sports shop and picked up every crossbow in sight. Some were to heavy. Some were front end heavy. Some were just not comfortable to hold or carry. I found one that felt right for me. I am happy with my choice. While at the sports shop another gentleman was only looking for the most expensive crossbow, all he did was check the price tags. He was talking out loud a he did this. When he found the most expensive crossbow he took it to the counter and purchased it. I hope it was worth the money.
You did exactly what I did. Amount of difference between the crossbows is crazy. I picked up the 10 point turbo 360 and I just felt perfect in my hands. I’ve had it for five years now accurate as you could want and has killed dang near everything.
Finally shot the AXE 405 I bought last year. Holy Crap! I'm glad I got it sighted in using only 3 bolts cuz 2 of the bolts are trashed. One buried into my new 425 field point bag @ 20 yds. Vanes toast. The other is currently sitting in the broad head target long ways. The nock is sticking out one side and the front is sticking out the other side. 40yds and it was a fresh spot on the target. It's a heavy cuss when you pick it up but when you shoulder it, it is perfectly balanced. Excellent trigger.
I only use the cheap the Taiwanese recurves but then I'm in the UK so can't hunt. There very basic and lack the speeds they don't have bells and whistles but they just work. Never needed more than a serving or a new string.
I use a Rocky Mountain 360, total poop. Switched to a Barnett during season and tagged out. Bought a bone collector 370 this year. Barnett are ok but they have string issues a lot. Even the one I used last season.
I've had a Barnett Whitetail Hunter for 10 years. I've only changed the string and cables once and it still shoots like new. Faster isn't always better
Nothing wrong with the old ones but all things considered, 400 ft per second is definitely better than 300 ft per second. That said, your Whitetail Hunter is one of those crossbows that has probably killed more deer than any other crossbow model ever made. Good stuff!
My first crossbow was an Excalibur Micro Suppressor (2016). Killed 3 really nice bucks. Bought a Ravin R26 in 2019. After multiple string failures, broken limps, and cam replacements, it's sold. Hunted the last month of this season with the Micro. Purchased a Excalibur Wolverine for next season. Arrows will be compatible for both bows. No more cam bows or bows with internal cranks. I prefer to rope cock and If I need assistance I'll purchase the EXT Charger. Simplicity is key to me after my Ravin experience. I originally purchased the Excal for that reason. I drank the speed bow Koolaid and paid the price. Good luck with your channel. Total enjoy your content.
Well I have shot Mathews since the MQ1 and upgraded bows as a new model intrigued me. Never had an issue with any of them only sold one of the 4 the DXT over time it never felt right to short. I developed a shoulder tweak so I had to go to the crossbow. I have a old school Horton which I still have you know the one with the adjustable scope ramp , the dial range. Great idea back then. I purchased 2 Horton havocs , nice crossbow a matter a fact the better half still uses hers and loves it . I sold mine and upgraded to the Mission Sub1 . With a 3.5x10x42 Sig BDX scope. I WOULDNT change a thing , I guess I am very Matthew's loyal but to this day I feel you can't go wrong with their products. I mean the Sub1 was a 3 year project before release, it had to be just so. And it shows by the quality and craftsmanship of this bow. Our local pro shop here was invited to shoot the Sub1 a year before its release they wanted to have it just right. I don't know if you know this but to be a Mathewss dealer and work on their equipment you have to go to Sparta WI to the school . They are very serious about taking care of their customers.
Rick, my only concern with that buy two bows at Walmart is this. The bow you featured is a KI. I went through 3 sets of cracked limbs with a Ripper 415. I also have a 10point and while it’s more money the 10point has never snapped. 10point has been a solid, dependable bow. I’d say go with a company with track record of not breaking
Your theory really isn’t bad, I now have just my wicked ridge ridge Blackhawk 360 but my first crossbow was a $300 killer instinct hero 380 and now on Amazon you can get the same hero 380 just in black for $199 I’m really thinking of getting one as my backup
I feel that I got pretty lucky thrue the whole learning experience. Used you as my main resource, " I am a student of Bunjee " . Bad exp. with Barnett and their customer service. Switched to a Centerpoint sniper 370 with a UTG scope. Gold Tip Ballistics with fixed broadheads. Just like my hunting I tried to take all the variables out of my crossbow shooting and routine , all the way down to not messing with lighted knocks . Anything that was not consistent and anything that was a aggravation had to go. Now I'm golden. It's fun. Reliable, and I get a buck and doe every year . Very rewarding. They say in crossbows ,faster does not translate to reliability . I'm perfectly content under 400 fps without all the headaches.
I have a Ten Point Blazer Crossbow. It's older than Bunjie. Ten Point stopped making it years and years ago. It's a solid, solid Crossbow and I never want to part with it.
Have Nick talk to a real professional off season. There's plenty of experts in shops. I'm luck enough to live in NH close to Wyvern Creations. Dave has talked me out of the crossbow I wanted twice. Again, OFF SEASON. Dave has always help match me to bow that fit me rather than the expensive eye candy I wanted. If Nick ever makes it to NH, have him call Dave. He may not know it when he leaves Dave's, but the proof is in the pudding and I've never had bad experience with wyvern. I lost a crank to tenpiont nitro x and Dave not only gave me new crank handle but fix the problem as well. No questions at all. As for Burris. You have to Crack a few eggs before you can make a perfect omelet. Thanks for the most enjoyable videos. Like the humor and honesty.
Ive actually had good luck with Burris scopes. They are a go to brand, but not sure about their high tech ranging stuff. Seems when anything in tech world says smart tech, and top of the line, it ends up being opposite. We see this at my work as well. Our computer systems end up having more steps than less, and things are supposed to be getting better/smarter? We live in opposite world, and when you peel back the curtain of distractions, things are getting worse, than better.
My first crossbow was a Carbon Express, Intercept Supercoil. At the time, it wasn’t the cheapest, but for about $600 I got an entire starter kit. It was a very accurate bow and I took several deer with it, including my first crossbow deer. I have many fond memories of it. I donated it to a friend whose daughter was interested in crossbow hunting. I switched to a Ravin R10, because I wanted to. I was fascinated with Ravin and Ravin company was located in the same town as where my grandparents lived & where I spent a lot of time growing up. Was there differences between the Ravin and the Carbon Express? Absolutely! But the Carbon Express was a joy! It properly introduced me to the world of crossbow hunting. By the way, my friends daughter successfully harvested her first crossbow deer with that same Carbon Express. Absolutely smoked that deer with a 25 yard shot!
Rich you know what? My Oricle x just stopped working. I set it off for repair and got it back in a week. It seems to be working fine. I am with you I do not want to be in the woods and say what if.
One thing to keep in mind.I noticed you have a pretty good slope in your yard. I talked with Burrus about truing. It really is a good idea to sight in your bow on a horizontal plain. If you sight in on a slope your scope may shoot high or low. It's mechanics adjust your scope from a horizon truing for shooting pointed up or down.I thought you should give that some thought. No one likes a bad day in the woods. @@Deathbybunjie
I've killed deer with a Walmart crossbow, in fact I bought it right after I found Death by Bunjie. It's a Bear X kronicle I still have that bow , but now I hunt with a killer instinct boss 405 .Both crossbows cost under $400.
My 300.00 centerpoint amped 415 is on its 4th season. No issues, just regular maintenance. I'm hoping I'll still be shooting it 10 years from now but if not I allready shot 3 bucks, 1 pig, and probably 12 doe with it, so I've allready got my money's worth out of it
Still shooting a wham o powermaster I got when I was 12. Same original string that I coated in shoo goop. Also a Barnett commando with a new string and 400 gr. bolts that has put one arrow into another arrow twice at 20 yards in the last 10 years. New stuff is leery for me. Gonna buy a new one as soon as I know what will last.
The biggest reason I shoot Heavy 609 grain bolts is to remove some stress from my crossbow Centerpoint Amped 425. I have had it about a year now and it’s never had a “normal” light bolt shot out of it. Will this help reduce problems over time? IDK but I certainly don’t see any negatives other than slower speed which I don’t care about. If I can stay above 320 fps or so with all that momentum I’m good but that’s just me. I’m getting the extra weight with replacing the factory insert with a 100 grain brass one and also shooting a 150 grain broad head or field point. It’s a fairly heavy bolt to begin with a CE Piledriver 20” with lighted moon knocks.
There's always a thought in the back of my head that something may happen with the crossbow. I've told my wife if I have a hunting trip coming up. Or if mine breaks during the season not to be mad but I'll be buying a new one. I've heard some horror stories of people's limbs breaking, then they either have warranty issues, or it takes forever to get a set of new limbs. Not only is it pretty annoying to deal with, it's also dangerous if they break. I don't think I should have to always be worried that a hunting trip will be ruined because I decided to use my crossbow lol..
I guess we are lucky in my state ….crossbow season starts September 23 and goes to February 28, of 24’….. I start shooting around your crossbow appreciation month to get all the kinks worked out prior to season…. and if I go down during season, I just go down. maybe even go Crappie fishing. I do, however, have compassion for the people who have just that split second in their daily busy lives to go hunt and their gear goes down and it ruins hotels, tags and anything else purchased for the hunt… maybe if Toyota made a crossbow 🤔 😁
I shoot a Mission MXB400 and the only issue is the cold weather and how it will shoot low. I got that figured out and no issues. Before my Mission Crossbow I shot a Mathews Z9 bow for about 6-7 years. In 12-13 years of shooting Mathews Z9/ Mission MXB400 no issues. I did have a string break due to a nock on a Mission Bolt being off a little bit and it eventually cut my string. Everything was free and I got a new Mission Bolt and a String for ZERO. That is just my opinion on a great company and customer service.
Excalibur, Excalibur, excel Humber all the way. Have 2 of them allow both of them. 2013 axiom. And two thousand and twenty two Matrix three forty Have always had excellent customer service. 21 pair of bad limbs and several other small issues I definitely stand behind their product
I agree with buying the cheaper crossbow pairs. I have a Centerpoint sniper 370, paid $199.00 for it. It is fast and very accurate to 50 yards. My nephew has a Barnett crossbow that he paid less than $300.00 for. It is fast and accurate and he has killed numerous deer with it. I have been looking at getting another Centerpoint as a backup for the same reasons you mentioned in this video. Glad that I'm able to see your videos again!
I spent about 300$ in total on my barrnet 350 from Walmart. It's shooting something like 365 fps and accurate out to about 40 yards. The only mods I've made was to upgrade the scope and bolts. Love it!
I have the stalker 380 that was a hell of a deal at academy a couple years ago(129bones) and it shoots great out to 40 also … without much practice I can drill a coke can(12 oz) at 40 80-90% of the time(I think some of my bolts have some in flight issues but they hit within a couple inches of the can)… use it occasionally but I’m usually a compound bow guy.
Well Rich. When I bought my latest crossbow a Wicked Ridge X4. Cost me $399 at Cabelas. I was all geared up to spend like $1500 on a Ravin. The sales associate at the time pointed me to the Wicked Ridge. Said save your money. It will kill anything out to 40 plus yards and here’s the best part. It costs a third less than the Ravin I was looking at and just as good. In 5 yrs or selling crossbows. That was the only one no one has brought back w a complaint or warranty issue for malfunctioning. Going into my third season as tempted as I am to get a new crossbow. Why fix something not broke. Changed cables n got an Oracle scope but still very reliable n familiar w it. It’s proven itself. Sometimes it pays just simply ask a sales associate whose been there for their off the record honest opinion.😊
You talked about buying two $250 bows and when one breaks use the other. In that portion of the video you put up a pick of Killer Instinct. I recently had an issue with my Ki bow (not a fault of the bow),so I called them up and told them I am going elk hunting with it this coming week and sent it back. They repaired the bow and sent it back out the same day. Great customer service experience.
All of this is why I will just stick to my old Axiom SMF. It never breaks and just plain works. Seems like all of the newer crossbows have a lot of issues. I agree with you about Excalibur. I would never buy a new one because they just can't be trusted.
Not a bad idea Rich! Can buy 5 or even 10 cheap bows for the price of one high dollar bow. I know some guys who buy a couple of the low end Barnetts and are happy as a clam. I for one am done with the high dollar bows. 😊
I just bought my first Xbow. Was doing some research and I saw the centerpoint wrath 430 on sale. seemed ok, $750 retail but picked it up for $540 and $100 mfg rebate making the whole package with silent crank and 3 bolts $440. Just getting it set up but so far looks good. I've got over 50 years experience with archery and arrow building I think that helps.
I bought a CenterPoint dagger 390 few years ago /I've fallen in it /dropped it /I walk with a cane so it takes some abuse for me it's what I could afford /it's been great so far and it has taken a few deer to !
My back up is sitting on a stores shelf at this time. Not sure what store, not sure what crossbow. That will be determined at the time of need. Maintain what you have and then replace if necessary. If I have to purchase and sight in before an evening hunt - so be it. The current crossbow KI bone collector 370 still is consistent yes, I’m the weak link here!
I own three different Center Point crossbows one I can use in New York and the other two I can not. The New York friendly one has had the limb break but their service was fantastic and that is one thing that matters when a product fails.
Bought a Wrath 430 because I wanted a faster more compact crossbow that wouldn’t break the bank. Initially thrilled, but I broke a string after only 150 shots or so. Back to Excalibur while I get it replaced, retuned and and relighted. Grrrrr! Why did I change!?!?!
I bought a wick ridge NXT 400 7 months ago shot it a bunch this summer going into my first season, so far no problem Ten point seams to be a great company
Perfect crossbow = features I like in the KI Swat X1 & the Mission Sub-1 combined. Narrow compact package, enclosed barrel, easy to cock/decock with both hands on the rope cocker, limbs that can be backed out to replace the cables/string without a bow press, excellent warranty, good customer service, & all in one package for under $1,000. That's all I ask for! 😃
I believe that you need to shoot many crossbows until you find one that fits your needs. I am a firm believer in you pay for quality but at the same time how often do you shoot? I see the build difference between Mission and TenPoint. I really like my Mission but just purchasing Viper 430 it has a coating on the crossbow that doesn’t sound like plastic like the Mission. Shoots very good and have killed many deer with it but cocking system is better on TenPoint. Maneuverability TenPoint, is that important? To me yes to someone younger maybe not. Do you see yourself with this crossbow in 5, 7,10 years from now? I do with the Viper 430.
Good points rich, I don’t think there is a crossbow available that “won’t break”. I will say my first crossbow was the KI ripper 415 that had bad problems with limbs breaking. Mine have not as of yet but I don’t shoot it every day. Just as accurate as my ten point siege. I will never spend that kind of money again(tenpoint) on a crossbow. The decocking is an awesome feature but do I need it? No. Matter of fact I don’t plan on buying another crossbow now. Hope I don’t need to. If I do Excalibur is what I’ll look at for it’s simplicity.
This is Lary. Again... oh yes: I still own the two Wally Mart crossbows as backs. There is nothing wrong with them, thet are a little slower but took deer 🦌 just as dead as my Shadow does. But I fell in love ❤️ with my Shadow NXT. ( ME AN MY SHADOW) sing along with me Rich 😅
Honestly! Centerpoint for the money, I just ordered a wrath 430x to replace my 370 sniper that I have taken deer with, nothing wrong with the bow. I just wanted something faster. I never shoot at a deer over 40 yards. Oh! And make sure that he is broadside. That is the best advice I could give anyone.
I’m looking at the Mission Sub1 XR for my wife. (I have a Barnett Raptor STR). My thought is that she likes it, she will hunt more and be committed. When she doesn’t hunt, I will use it and love it. It seems like it will last and the co. seems solid but who knows. That being said, its hard to justify $2100 for a crossbow. I’ve looked at others and they all seem inferior. I’ve been researching and going to stores all over town, just can’t make up my mind. The affordable crossbows are heavy, too long, cheaply made. The sub1 is too expensive and who knows what problems I might still have. Tough.
The faster the more force it’s holding = easier to break. Bungie OG is one of the simplest modern xbow. I run a Mission sub-1 XR which is fast. Go with a company that has a good warranty and rep. Killer instinct, Mission, and 10-pt are good per my dealer
I bought a Carbon Express off of The internet for under $200. 5 years later, five trips to PA from Texas, one set of strings and 12 deer in the freezer. I only shoot this crossbow. Put the bolt where it needs to go and any CB works.
I bought my Orical X after seeing your video about them. I love that scope, I just took it out and relighted it in due to a new string. Minor windage and elevation adjustments. Work like it’s supposed to, I shoot excalibur 360 assassin. I’m just wondering if the scope can handle higher poundage’s ie shock and 0:28 vibration. Has Burris built this scope to keep up with the speeds of newer 0:28 models over and above 400 fps? I would be concerned about that if I were to buy a new crossbow with the higher speeds.
Hey, love your channel! Not to change the subject of this piece, but, relating to "quieting your crossbow"...please do the sound test of shooting in the open as opposed to shooting from back in a ground blind. I believe, unless you're right at the opening, some of the sound would be chambered and held in the ground blind. What do you think?
It would be a great video experiment and I'm sure you'd gather plenty of viewers... how ever, going back to you get what you pay for, it certainly depends on the quality of the product. You pay for extras like a better fit and finish, smoother triggers, speed, quietness, weight, safety features and a real person to hear any complaint and provide service. Although cheap enough, if an item breaks on it, it's most likely a complete replacement... from China? Brand name does give you the security of knowing you can get it serviced... at least a minor item while on a hunting trip out of town. I don't know about you but an item has to feel good, look good as well as preform for me to "want" to carry it!
OMG! You're really wound up today Rich! But you know that's not a bad idea to buy two Walmart entry-level crossbow packages! But we all suffer from the need for more SPEED, and I'm a big believer that old eyes need the best, brightest scope I can find! None of the entry-level scopes come with good glass! I really wish crossbow manufacturers would allow you to customize your total package! You can do this at high-end vendors like Dave at WYVERN Creations, but that will cost you! I'm thinking the OB, might have been the best bet!
From watching some of your videos it seems pretty clear paying up for a brand name crossbow doesn’t get you reliability at all! My 260 fps crossbow kills deer dead out to 30 yards and it’s limbs are fine here in year 6. Cheap, effective and reliable! ✅
Get a lower performing excal. They don't break. Higher performing xbows break. You found the correct formula a while back with the OB. SMOOTH AND SLOW just doesn't break. You start chasing speed you start getting heart break.
I have worked in manufacturing for a number of years now and when dealing with tolerances now ,now they are a lot greater than ever before. We are passing on a lot of products now that would have been considered a part that was out of tolerance, which actually means less scrap and junk going to the customers. The bottom line is quantity not quality.Note:A crossbow that is hard to obtain and you can not get everywhere is worth buying.Scorpyd!😊
Something I can change the string in the field so Excalibur (micro 340 and 380). Also spare limbs are a quarter the price of the complete bow, a no brainer for me.
Too bad Parker went out of business. Been using a Parker Tomahawk and the scope it came with without any issues since 2012. Dry fired numerous times. It really like the easton bloodline bolts with a muzzy tricoar broadhead. the yardage marks on the scope are darn near spot on. Dreading the day i'll have to fork out a couple hundred bucks for a new crossbow. I love this thing.
I'm with you on that. I've had a Safari Magnum since 2004. I have never had a problem. Not one. The fastest speed I've gotten from it with a 475-grain bolt is 315 fps. That 'bow feels, looks, and is solid as a rock.
My son and I have killed several deer with a Barnett Recruit and a Tasco red dot scope using stock arrows and Carbon Express Torrid SS heads. I'd carry it on any hunt anywhere with complete confidence, and it's about the cheapest setup money can buy.
@@ozarksfirewood3936Was it gifted by Huntersthompson on crossbow nation by any chance?
That 370 is now discontinued on WRs site, good shooter tho
A $5000 crossbow is not going to put any more critters in front of you than a $250 unit.
@@2cthetruthhave a great day
@@2cthetruthI've killed countless deer with $200 crossbows.
@@2cthetruth It might.. EK Archery is a well known brand in Russia and their HQ is in The Netherlands.
Thanks for the great videos and info keep up the good work
Loving the rant videos it’s like having a meat and greet haha!
Lol
Gotta say I do love these videos where you just rant about things as it gives your honest opinion and I care about your opinion you have been doing this for Alot longer than myself so your opinion has helped in some purchases. Thank you for all that your doing. Your friend from New Zealand.
Yes sir
They all have issues of some sort.
I love how your bear appears to be smiling... love it.
I have 2 Excalibur Mag 340
Everything is exactly the same on both
I do the same for my battle rifles.
100% agree, crossbows absolutely without question should be easier! That's kind of the whole point of crossbows! LOL
1. The price
@robertwhite
Absolutely!
🤣I have two cheap 400 fps crossbows, found Death by Bunjie on RUclips, started hunting and have 2 freezers full of Venison! This was a great video.
A recipe for Success LOL thank you very much
That’s a good plan.
That is a common complaint with them unfortunately with an otherwise good company! Good luck.
I’ve used crossbows the last 8 years I’m 61.. prior used compounds for decades
I started with sniper 370 after broken limbs on 3 occasions over 2 years I switched to ten point !! Never an issue since then in 40 plus deer over 6 years
I have a Wicked Ridge Raider 400. Had an Excalibur 355. Moved to NYS where Excaliburs are not allowed. If I could, I would go back to the Excalibur in a heartbeat.
I enjoy your honest videos. There are less and less creators out there staying honest gonna go with your Walmart idea makes the most logical sense.
Agreed! I have a 10 year old Horton Legend. Shoots like a dream[ like OB] and no fancy tech stuff.
I had the wicked ridge invader XP. Deadly accurate, but sold it for a center point CP 400. Unbelievably fast and super narrow!
Well I have learned a lot from your rants and look to learn more thanks for the information two thumbs up
Your Walmart plan/idea, could actually work very well.
So tempted to do it lol
Sorry to hear about the Ravin, there's lots of other crossbows though. But hope you like the Excals.
Was just reading the comments and there seems to be a theme when it comes to Centerpoint crossbows .
I must be lucky I never had a problem with my crossbows breaking. The only thing I had to fix or replace was the string.
I like the way you think!!
That's great 👍
Rich you know what? My Oricle x just stopped working. I set it off for repair and got it back in a week. It seems to be working fine. I am with you I do not want to be in the woods and say what if.
Man, I did not want to hear this LOL but hopefully it works out for the best for both of us
One thing to keep in mind.I noticed you have a pretty good slope in your yard.
@redneckurbantransplant5931 the scope takes angle into account, all good...if it can't do that, it's no good (any good rangefinder today does that)
I got me and my daughter a Centerpoint Patriot 425 and we love them.
Great idea!
Good idea rich. I have 2 CP Wrath 430X and the original Wrath 430 both works great for me. $850.00 for the 2 with no issues so far nock on wood.
I will stay with my Excalibur mag 349 and micro 380. Got backup limbs for mag 340 so never be down
There's always a thought in the back of my head that something may happen with the crossbow.
But I am beginning to question the death by Bungie podcast have loved watching this show for years
🤷
After we figure this out, maybe someone can help me find a garden tiller that keeps working!
😆
I shoot a Mission MXB400 and the only issue is the cold weather and how it will shoot low. I got that figured out and no issues. Before my Mission Crossbow I shot a Mathews Z9 bow for about 6-7 years. In 12-13 years of shooting Mathews Z9/ Mission MXB400 no issues. I did have a string break due to a nock on a Mission Bolt being off a little bit and it eventually cut my string. Everything was free and I got a new Mission Bolt and a String for ZERO. That is just my opinion on a great company and customer service.
I was sold on your original video on the Oracle X. Now i am questioning whether to get it.
Love it!
Man, I am jealous. I love that! That is so great to hear. Good luck out there!
This is great to hear thank you
You talked about buying two $250 bows and when one breaks use the other. In that portion of the video you put up a pick of Killer Instinct. I recently had an issue with my Ki bow (not a fault of the bow),so I called them up and told them I am going elk hunting with it this coming week and sent it back. They repaired the bow and sent it back out the same day. Great customer service experience.
Now that's great to hear!
I find that interesting.
Question what pistol grip do you have on the Vital X?
@@hermantaylor178 It's made by Future Forged.
Experience sure does help I bet!
Nothing wrong with that plan
I own three different Center Point crossbows one I can use in New York and the other two I can not. The New York friendly one has had the limb break but their service was fantastic and that is one thing that matters when a product fails.
Bought a Wrath 430 because I wanted a faster more compact crossbow that wouldn’t break the bank. Initially thrilled, but I broke a string after only 150 shots or so. Back to Excalibur while I get it replaced, retuned and and relighted. Grrrrr! Why did I change!?!?!
I'm glad you said your having trouble with your sight I heard you say good things about them I was going to get 1 now I'm not
I bought a wick ridge NXT 400 7 months ago shot it a bunch this summer going into my first season, so far no problem Ten point seams to be a great company
We need more ranting. Honest thoughts on the state of crossbows please.
Me too, all I want is the perfect crossbow!
I hunt will a barnett c6 wildcat. Cost 290 dollars. This will be year 8 hunting with it. New strings and serving only. Kills and works just fine.
😅
I agree i think even u were happier with simple and cheaper bunjie ,,,,,,maybe overcomplicating things isnt a good thing
I bought my Orical X after seeing your video about them. I love that scope, I just took it out and relighted it in due to a new string. Minor windage and elevation adjustments. Work like it’s supposed to, I shoot excalibur 360 assassin. I’m just wondering if the scope can handle higher poundage’s ie shock and
0:28 vibration.
Some reduction but also you're at "ear level" so I'm not sure, that is a good topic!
Of course I meant a deer 20 to 40 yards out in front of the blind....@@Deathbybunjie
I have a Vortex, which is very similar to your Axiom, and no back up. Since it is a war horse in my opinion, I have back up strings only.
Actually anything can break ,anytime or moment .also a good point Rich.
A very good point indeed!
The most important thing is dependability!
What gives you that impression for my videos? The scorpyd is pretty impressive...
You should look at the Hickory Creek mini crossbow
Get a lower performing excal. They don't break. Higher performing xbows break. You found the correct formula a while back with the OB. SMOOTH AND SLOW just doesn't break. You start chasing speed you start getting heart break.
I got the Lethal 405 for $165 on sale at Bass Pro. Great value for a good crossbow.
That really is amazing! Good luck out there
I have worked in manufacturing for a number of years now and when dealing with tolerances now ,now they are a lot greater than ever before. We are passing on a lot of products now that would have been considered a part that was out of tolerance, which actually means less scrap and junk going to the customers. The bottom line is quantity not quality.Note:A crossbow that is hard to obtain and you can not get everywhere is worth buying.Scorpyd!😊
I've been hunting with a pse fang.. no problems here 6 years.
Something I can change the string in the field so Excalibur (micro 340 and 380). Also spare limbs are a quarter the price of the complete bow, a no brainer for me.
Scorpyd you can not get everywhere and in my opinion is worth buying, being that I have a deathstalker and a tremor.😊
Yeah, I was interested in their Thunderbolt, I believe it was called, but not sure 100%. Reviews were decent, and price wasn't too bad.
