- Today, we compare two knives which come from the same Polish, but with very different levels of polish: Spyderco SpydieChef vs the Slysz Bowie. Hope it helps!
Here's a video about the details of the Slysz: • It's all in the Detail...
Here's the full review of the Chef: • The Spyderco SpydieChe...
Marcin Słysz sounds kind of like "marchin' swish"
Another great video, Nick! Greetings from Lublin, Poland!
I own and love both but I would carry the Chef any day of the week.
This review was a good comparison between the two, but also helped me to understand some of the quality difference that would otherwise have gone unnoticed. Thanks for sharing.
I would go for the spydiechef
Hey Nick, a little late to the party but might I suggest the SpidieChef is designed and built for the task at hand, food prep. All the way down to how the bladeward ends of the handles shaped to make it more comfortable to finely dice. Speaking of the handles, the flat shape would make it more grippy in the vaseline factory's kitchen. Also the open space the handle standoffs allow for ease of cleaning. In my mind both are supremely well designed and built for tasks intended. Again thanks for the insights and humor.
Thanks for the comparison Nick. I just picked up the spydichef for $171.20 shipped (20% off coupon). As always, great video content!
hey may i ask where did you order this and the coupon?
Yeah the worlds wants to know, I've been looking too?
I got mine from theknifejoker.com. Good luck on getting a coupon code now though.
The Slysz trifecta is awesome!
chef looks visibly more polished complete. The bowie looks rough is it just me?
Question is can you get the scales on the spydiechef to be like the Bowie?
I’ve been carrying my Spydiechef at the restaurant I work at because if I need to was dishes the knife won’t get ruined. However the knife is a little too big and tends to intimidate people for something only used for cuttting open bags and box’s.
God I love them both, but I really want that Spydiechef, and that's not obscenely out of budget where as the Slysz Bowie... I mean, it's not at my limit I set for how much I'd pay, but it's damn close.
Thanks for this comparison. It's nice to see how the two match up side-by-side.
Got the chef for EDC in Raincouver BC in Canada. 👌 It's good to go.
RIP ive been looking for the bowie and i just cant find the thing since it was discontinued for less then 500 which it is not worth. cause once you get there i can just sell some of my other knives and buy a grimsmo
Nick,What about Drunken vs Spydiechef? Whats your take?thanks
Spydiechef, I think. Just a more practical design.
OH man here comes the wave of folks pissed as fuck about the LC200N. It is nitrogen based so naturally it won't have much carbon. At the same time so is 14c28n or whatever it is. It probably takes a keen edge and holds it fine for regular use.
You should see the hate-thread on the full review. I committed the heresy of saying LC200N is good to go in the same way as XHP and S90V, and the steel snobs are on me like white on rice.
Nick Shabazz it is good to go most likely. It is a chef's edc, they aren't gonna thump on such a blade like they would something else. Maybe cut cardboard and some string or ties, then some food preparation on the fly maybe. This would work just fine for most any EDC task save for straight up edge abuse. I bet I could put an edge on that knife that would slice a hundred feet of cardboard and could probably be touched up with a few passes on a medium and fine spyderco stone and a couple passes on the strop and be stupidly sharp. I don't know about other people but I hit a cooking knife on the ceramic rod a few times before I cook as habit anyway.
I bet the steel is fine and people are just being pedants because it obviously is probably closer to AEB-L or Sanvik than CTS XHP.
Five nights at Freddy's
Most of the strikes against the Chef are actually what makes me prefer it.
So nick, don't know what the current status is with the chef. I just find it hard to believe you would entertain the idea of not keeping that for the collection. Such a nice knife . Also now the Bowie is running $825 new on ebay IF you can find one. I'm actually thinking about buying for that price just cuz I want a bowie so bad idk
Do not buy a Slysz Bowie right now above retail. Rumors swirl.
@@NickShabazz i see where you're coming from but Retail? Lol the bowie hasn't even approached retail prices in uhhh well let's see when did you make your first video lol
Lmao this is all your fault ;)
I definitely disagree that the Bowie feels “ much higher end”
A useful comparison. I thought the blade shape looked familiar on the SpydieChef --dug out my ZT 0770CF and thought it looks quite similar. The flipper tab on the ZT can/ does get in the way of a flat cut on a table but otherwise is pretty nice. Do you (or others) think they're comparable knives (ZT 0770 and SpydieChef)?
I do. I really liked my ZT 0770cf, but the blade stop spacer wore out the carbon fiber handle hole very quickly. I loved the shape of that blade. The Spydiechef was an easy choice as a replacement. Plus it's just an all around better knife.
Gottem both..luv em
It’s not $100 nicer for an increased contoured handle. The Spydiechef handle is NOT completely flat. There’s an indentation at the pivot
David Martin Portmann the word is “semi” and not custom. There’s plenty of smiths that will custom design at this price. Plenty videos with them constructing knives too. The English bloks really love their work
David Martin Portmann I’ll make it for you. Just forward the mullah to my pay pal account and don’t rush me because I’m an artist. I have ole titanium mug for the frame. The rest is secret
David Martin Portmann hurry up kid. I don’t have all day. Time is 💰. If you act now I’ll knock 5% off the price. Best price in town
Wish Spyderco would bring the Bowie back.
Jacob Dawson do you own a Bowie?
ya bowie rocks love mine
So I went to go buy a Slysz Bowie today and was devastated to see it's been discontinued and is noooooowhere to be found... Anyone have any ideas on how to score one? Saw one on ebay for $550 and there's noooo way Im dropping close to $600 on a knife (shipping was like 50 bucks as the knife is overseas) :-(
Get the chef instead. It's amazing.
Pete Woj Unfortunately that’s the only way you can get one. I’ve even seen D2 clones sell for almost 200$.
I didn't know it was a polish guy that designed the bowie
Buy a spydichef and save yourself some dollars
Nitrogen based. It cannot rust.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
