CTS HXP is great steel, with M390 slightly better in edge retention, but also slightly less tough. I have several knives in both steels, and they are both fantastic. I find XHP to be much easier to sharpen and bring to a high polish, but slightly less corrosion resistant than M390. Neither is a challenge on decent, diamond-based stones. XHP, in my experience, strops back to razor-sharp faster. My original Slysz Bowie -- from Knife Center -- was $290 and a little thick behind the edge: Re-profiled it's a laser. Prefer the original stone-washed Ti over the matt-blue finish, by miles.Great review from a great presenter.

I totally agree w you about the sebenza experience. For me the slyze Bowie is a better tool, more joy to carry no pun intended.

One more note (and Spyderco purists are gonna freak).., the first thing I did (5 years ago) with my new Slysz Bowie was grind away the sharp shoulder on the show-side scale, producing a smooth, natural-looking arc that makes Spydie-hole access and thumb-flicking a joy. I then finish-sanded and applied an titanium oxidant to the scalloped area, and it's now got the exact same patina as the original finish. This would be harder with the blue-finish, but also doable. I'd be happy to send you my Slysz Bowie for reference, if you're interested; made the knife a joy, and it looks great, too. (or just pictures) That was before the crazy Ebay, completely nuts, inflation -- but I'd do it again, anyway.

I know there is going to be variance within a run of knives, but mine was drop shutty out of the box. After disassembly and some lube it is even more free dropping and it has never had any blade play.

I really like mine. I think the reason for the lack of hole access on the lock side is so it doesn’t have the large hump on the blade like a pm2. For the action on closing I found it to be the same as the GB2 in that a few wiggles it closes. While the blowie doesn’t have the fidget factor of a compression lock or the smock I have been able to fidget with mine just fine.

Great review brotha, I think a lot more people care about liking to figit than care to admit it. Their ego gets in the way and they think it doesn’t sound manly. I myself like a knife the cuts well and has a high performing steel but also needs to have good ergos and a good enough action that I can enjoy flicking it if I just get that urge! Appreciate the honesty!

Like I said in my review my biggest complaint, and a massive mis-step, is no lock bar insert like they did on the Swayback. They have the ability and can do it in the same factory. I still can't fathom why they would "upgrade" the knife and not actually upgrade it.

Great work. Nice to see a straight up review (that doesn’t get sidetracked by the hype). Fwiw, my OG does fall nicely to my thumb, with only modest wiggles to close, after polishing washers and some break-in.

With use and adjustment on my original SB: super smooth, glassy instant drop close.

I think "Blowie" is catching on. Not sure if there will be a "Blowie Gang" though, but one can always hope.

I picked this up the other day from someone just trying to get what they paid for it. I just wasn't for him. I love it. I also have 3 chris reeve knives, which I absolutely love. the issue I have with this, compared to chris reeve, is the finish is going to scratch easy, and you can't send it back for refurbishment. I really wish they would have put a lock bar insert on it. In know carburization is tried and true, and my sebenza 21 has never failed me. my seb 31 and inkosi both have a ceramic detent, lock interface ball, which is a great idea. the carburization can flake off, especially when flicking the knife open, and I love flicking a knife open. unfortunately, I wont do it on this knife because of this. I wish the pocket clip wasn't so close to the relief cut on the lock-bar. its gonna destroy my pockets. I bent it a little to take some tension off. it helped a little. overall, this slysz bowie is an outstanding knife, and I love m390. its a little spendy, but then again, I dont think many of my knives could be considered a wise expenditure. its a hobby, its fun to get one in the mail.

I had the original Bowie. Cool knife for sure, but it’s just a worse Sebenza. The Sebenza is better in just about every way (m390 is better on this new one, but it’s not a hollow grind, so I’d still rather have the CRK blade). Not to mention CRK’s warranty

We like the exact same thing in knives… size, blade style and form, ergo … yassssss. What is your absolute fav carry?

Just got an RGT contoured milled clip for my Bowie and it’s a definite update. It doesn’t ride as low in pocket but it solves the issue of snagging the pocket on the lock-bar cutout while drawing from pocket and also feels much better in hand.

I love the satin finish too! I like it better, not sure why people made such a fuss about it not being slightly mirrored. I also didn’t like the blue finish, but I actually love how dark it gets on people. I seem to be the only one that sees that as a positive too, lol. Oh and I also think the sebenza is ugly. I like the Bowie better aesthetically.
