    Episode 202 of Love At First Scent
    This was a RUclips Live broadcast streamed on Monday 5th July 2021. Unscripted. Unedited. Unrehearsed.
    This episode featured an interview with David Benedek, founder and creative director of BDK Parfums. In spite of the dodgy internet connection, we discussed how David came to set up his brand, how he thinks 'vintage' styles can be made more contemporary, and how he's linked to what may well be the last independent perfumery still standing in Paris.

    I know I’m repeating myself, but you are a brilliant interviewer. You ask poignant questions and let your guest talk. No matter who your guest is, I’m eager to smell their stuff.

    I am two months late to this interview but had to say how much I appreciate David’s brand. I recently bought a bottle of Pas Ce Soir - it’s so comforting to me. Gris Charnel, Tubereuse Imperiale and Velvet Tonka are on my To-Purchase list. BDK is one of the first houses I have sampled where I loved more perfumes than I disliked. Thank you to David for sharing beauty with the world ❤️

    Loved this interview, David has an excellent brand and a real passion for perfumery. Any chance of interviewing Hedi Slimane? Every house he directs seems to create a legendary perfume line when he’s there (Dior, Ysl, Celine)
    Big love ❤️

    I was watching the live but had my hands tied up cooking for the family. Nearly burnt the rice as this was so engaging. 😂 The internet was not David's best friend today but the show must go on and you both handled it with good humour! Very admirable to have such a brand at such a young age. I really wish him the best. I am not all fussed with the brand, but also not familiar with most of the work. Therefore I cannot judge myself. I definitely need to try more! Fingers crossed the technical goblins are kept away tomorrow, I recommend 10 sprays of Creed Viking to repel them 👍🏼 ;)
    P.S. I must commend you on your interview style. Good questions and letting the interviewee answer without interrupting. Reminds me of Anthony Davis when he had his 10pm-1am radio slot on LBC. Pleasure to watch. Thank you!

    Paulo (in the comments) nailed it. After watching the entire video, I failed to grasp any USP (unique selling point) and the brand feels more business oriented then anything. This is my impression of alot of niche outfits nowadays sadly. And show me one influencer who gives out a negative review please. Again Persolaise, thanks for asking the tough questions.

    • @Persolaise
      @Persolaise  3 года назад +4

      As always, thanks for watching.
      As you know, I want this channel to be a platform for respectful disagreement, so I'm going to respond by saying that I don't think you and I view the brand in the same way.
      The way I see it, too many brands try much too hard to create a very artificial-feeling USP, with the result that they limit themselves and end up coming across as a bit ridiculous. As David said in the interview, he didn't want BDK to come across as overly conceptual: he just wanted to make good perfumes. And marketing, packaging, image etc aside, the bottom line is that much of BDK's output is really very good indeed.

    Thanks for this interview Dariush. David has interesting blood line and history... I own two bdk's and love them. My fav is Gris Charnel and also own Tabac Rose. I am intrigued by the new Velvet Tonka. These are not full sillage but close to skin in my opinion. The summer scents have not worked for me sadly i.e. Riviera and Sel. Love your You tube channel

    Amazing! This brand is very appealing. I love the grandma story that is behind it. And the ideas behind the creations are beautiful. I will definitely visit the family's shop the next time I am in Paris ( whenever that might be). Btw, David might just be a bit too young to realize that he still might have the time to become a perfumer himself. He has definitely got the passion and the basics he needs.
