The Philly accent isn’t as well known as New York or Boston but the way Os are pronounced make it hilarious. Phone, home etc. are incredible in a Philly accent.
I really thought that was intentional.....I mean, in a world of SNL it just seems kind of intentional, lot of great actors who’ve let loose on here

+ Rod Norman I do focus groups sometimes (though not for toilet paper or other domestic goods - I mostly do studies for financial products because those pay the most) and I've never thought to suggest my own ideas for commercials. This is funny stuff.

@@andromedaiscoming185 They really don't, there was some good philly in there but also cali surfer dude, some standard midwestern accent creeping in, and his scottish accent to round it out. It was a funny sketch but the accent is all over the place.
From Philly...I would say he's definitely one of the best non-Philadelphians I have heard do the accent. Not perfect, but pretty damn good.

@@Gnahtte if you want to hear an excellent Philly accent, look up the video of Bradley Cooper on a local Philly TV station being interviewed and doing a Philly accent. He basically just says many lines from a local restaurant's TV commercial. Then watch James McAvoy again and see how good this accent on SNL was.

I have lived in Philadelphia for most of my life, and this McAvoy is spot on! It's one of the hardest American accents to imitate. Incredible!

The blue collar Philly/Maryland accent is one of the hardest to maintain and not just do certain words. It was in and out at times but he did it well enough to be funny. It really shows how good McAvoy is bc that is a hilarious but obscure accent.

James McAvoy does the Best Non-Native Philly accent all around. Linguists say he nailed it with "tidy deuce". I also think "Sick body doe" captures an overlooked feature which sounds exactly like people I know. LOVE IT 🙌
This sketch showcased James’ acting talent! Usually the regular SNL actors get most of the lines w/ the host given a bone or two...but in this case, James was THE STAR of the sketch!!! Soooo hilarious!!! 😂😂😂
