We seen them in concert believe it 2018 and they tore it up!! They played all the hits!! And he was all over stage!! Go see them if you get a chance.. Also ck out fire woman!!
You don't need a deeper connection to someone to write a song about them, even what sounds like a love. The best song I've yet written was a love song about a friend I was starting to develop a crush on and didn't want to. So I went overboard on the lyrics and the next day, the crush was gone and I was able to stay just friends. So, if he says it's just about sex, it's true. No problem reading more into it, just take it as your interpretation and not necessarily his.
Looks like you were digging the fancy footwork of Ian in the beginning ! Ian & the guitarist Billy Duffy are the only consistant members of The Cult. Others , like drummer Joey Tempesta , floated in and out over the years.

Great Band, Every time I hear them I always have to play more. I love to play there music around the era when they moved from "The Death Cult" to "The Cult".
This is from the Love album. Great songs from beginning to end. This album is more "Alternative" rock as compared to their next album "Electric" which is considered more "Hard" rock. All of it always has the Ian Astbury Goth feel to it.

Let Me tell you something about Ian Astbury. I don't care what anybody says, that man is a scholar and a gentleman, and when he performed his ass off three years ago at the zeiterion theater a local theater 15 minutes away in My sister City, he went down the line and spoke to every single person who waited for him and the rest of the band. Everybody else came out first and chatted and was so cool except for Duff the long running lead guitarist. When Ian came out, in his sweats and head band man, He looked Me in the eye shook My hand and kept a small conversation with Me as I, reserved in My way, thanked him him for the years of inspiration and the honor of having him come over to our New England town. He inquired about My voice as we spoke, honestly interested, and signed whatever I had to give him. Those guys were amazing. It was a night I'll never forget as long as I live. Gorgeous band. Now watch Sweet Soul Sister, Rain, Edie, Spirit Walker, and anything else! But if you want to hear some newer Cult. Listen to Deeply Ordered Chaos and Birds of Paradise.

A lot of their riffs are too one dimensional, they've come up with good songs, but it's not across the board..

Ian had a great collaboration with Slash when he sang vocals on Ghost. The Cult are definitely one of my favorite band's from the 80s.
Also he did a great job fronting with Jim Morrison’s band.
Ghost is a fantastic track!
Love this tune man! That opening riff and then the drums kick in...mmmmmm and you gotta crank it!!!!
