    This was a band that both the metal heads and the 80's alt/new wave/goth fans both enjoyed. It was usually either/or. Still touring in '24🔥

      Yep, they really checked a lot of boxes. I saw them live twice in the 90s, they're so good. They pretty much have never stopped touring. Billy Duffy is a great guitarist & Ian with that voice!

    The singer, Ian Astbury, was brought by the remaining members of The Doors to do some concerts with them. In the 80s all lead singers were compared to Jim Morrison, and everyone thought he measured up well. You have to watch Fire Woman and some other stuff to get their later 80s rock stuff & you can see the Morrison comparisons there. He did the Jim proud when he performed with the Doors & the guys had a great time with him.

    The Bassist: Jammie Stewart is a Rhythm Guitarist and Bassist at the same time. He holds the rhythm down, at the same time carrying the melody as Billy Duffy goes off on his solos and leads....Perfection! The whole song he is playing D C G......On different parts of the fretboard, but.....Shit..... Solid!

    In Alternative and Rock Clubs this song got them on the dance floor. They are Icons - went from alternative to mid rock to heavy rock. best period alternative. Huge catalogue. Good on you finally getting to them - try LOVE REMOVAL MACHINE by them - a ROCK ANTHEM to this day! PS Lead singer toured with the original DOORS for a short period and did a good job. The Guitarist is considered one of the best for riffs in his genre.

    One of my favorite songs is Fire Woman, it is 🔥🔥 please play this one next, everyone has heard that song. I always had The Cult cassette tapes in my car in the 1980's, my friends would get inside and expect to hear my usual go to bands AC/DC or Pink Floyd blaring and they heard The Cult and would say wow who is this band?? Lol. So I turned several of my friends onto The Cult, WQMF was the only station I heard their songs played regularly, I lived in the boonies and it was rare to get LRS102 in clearly, so they may have played it. I'm thrilled that you both like the band, I knew you would😊🤘

    Guys, more Cult's songs! My favourite rock band of all time. I've been listening to it since 1995, from the year they split 😁 A few must hear examples: Little face, A flower in the desert, Rain, Love, Aphrodisiac jacket, Love removal machine, American horse, Soul asylum, Wild hearted son, White, Coming down, Sacred life and many later songs.

  • @jgsrhythm100
    @jgsrhythm100 13 дней назад +13

    Awesome!!
    After this, The Cult progressively got heavier merging their Goth roots with hard rock. From Next album
    Love Removal Machine
    It's their Goth roots that makes their heavier material unique. Upon hearing the guys will be startled at how different, though the tone, guitar and vocal approach and phrasing and hypnotic aura remain.

  • @bobthebear1246
    @bobthebear1246 13 дней назад +7

    SO glad you guys did this great song. As usual, Nick, you nail the description. This early stage of The Cult was exactly like "Gothic U2." Billy Duffy's guitar playing is basically a slightly harder and faster version of what U2's The Edge did back then, plus the rhythm section was a bit heavier.
    After this album was released in the US and sold well based on the strength of this single and video, The Cult became the "It Band" and many of us who loved this song were eager to hear what they would do next.
    What they did next was completely mind-blowing.
    The next song (and video) you guys need to do of The Cult is "Love Removal Machine" from the next album, _Electric._ That is all I will say about it. DO IT!!

    • @VyxenBlack
      @VyxenBlack 12 дней назад +2

      Electric was actually a big disappointment for a lot of us who fell in love with their more "gothic" sound..they became a more generic hard/cock rock band..I know it gained them far more success though.

    This song is the best. Weirdly...we discovered it way after the fact, when it was used in a motion picture 'Singles'. This movie is well worth checking out;
    depicted during Seatle's 'grunge scene'. Lots of great music; lots of cameos of great musicians. And Bridget Fonda! Absolute gold for Gen X.
    And before that...for a couple of months there, this band technically outranked Metallica and Guns and Roses...just prior to their career explosions.
    We recommend their song 'Rain'. If we enter politics or professional wrestling...it might just could be our 'arena entrance' song. Rock on!

    There's just a relentless overdrive of pulsing rhythm that was just unbelievably catchy and contagious at the time. Some sound engineer knew EXACTLY how long to pace this song before it could overstay its welcome.
    (This band was The Southern Death Cult before they emerged with this international club hit; I know this, because I had a mix tape (cassette) in 8th grade!! Years later, the Cult molted yet again with a LA heavy metal aesthetic and sound in "Love Removal Machine.")

  • @alchemy-oi8xf

    I know Nick mentioned U2, and this song has always reminded me a bit of INXS, both in it's hard-driving danceability and it's ringing guitars, as in the early INXS song, "Don't Change". If I'm not mistaken, the Cult later evolved into more of a metal band, and even toured with and opened for Metallica.
    (Sorry about the disappointing Bengal loss, and those two negligent non-calls on the 2-point try.)

    Lyrically, the song is pretty simple, but you hit it on the head - the beat and rhythm just does not stop, it's really catchy and combines new wave, metal, and goth. Fire Woman is probably their biggest hit and involves more singing power and technique from Asbury.
