Sax solo by the great Junior Walker. Did it in one take. He started packing up his instrument after he played it, and they asked him for additional takes. He shrugged and he obliged, but they still went with the first one. Junior Walker and the All Stars. Music royalty. And Foreigner knew it, and asked for it. They got it.
Thanks for that information. I NEVER KNEW that was Junior Walker! My Mom and Dad used to listen to Junior Walker and the Allstar and I loved them then. 😍
It wasn't one take. Junior record 5 different solos. What you hear on the track is 5 solos spliced together. The constructed solo was so popular that Junior had to learn it for their first live performance.
I can’t play Urgent enough. I never get tired of it. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve played this album. Feels Like the First Time is 70’s rock. Foreigner 4 is 80’s rock. They each sound their time period.
I was 12, had lost my dad to a heart defect 2 years earlier, and my mom desperate to get me into something, insisted one evening, "Tomorrow, you are joining band, pick an instrument". Later, listening to music in my room, this song came on the radio. The next day I picked the saxophone. I still play guitar, piano, sax, and bass today 40 years later.
So heartwarming ❤️. My son just turned 12 and just finished 6th grade. Last year as school started he decided to join school band and chose the flute. He excelled at it and ended up getting chosen for honor band. Now he’s playing my grandmas piano I’ve had for years as well as my guitar, drums and he wants a bass for Christmas. Music can soothe the soul and heal hurts. So sorry you went through all that but your comment made me think that one day my son will have tons of instrument/music experience behind him.

Lou Gramm…OMG. His expression, passion and story telling is unmatched. All-time great rock vocalist. Glad you guys are discovering his immense talent. Y’all have only scratched the surface on Foreigner’s hit machine. You could review the whole 4 album. Amazing band.
Ok, here are some others to hit: "I Want to Know What Love Is", "As Cold as Ice", "Double Vision", "Hot Blooded", "Head Games", "Waiting for a Girl Like You". "I Want to Know What Love Is" is an epic love song that Lou Gramm puts his heart and soul into. And then back his vocals by a church choir and OMG, it touches my soul every time I hear it. Enjoy!
Oh my goodness, guys! This is so awesome. I’ve been following your channel for a long time and somehow this one slipped through the cracks! I really love your reactions to 70’s and 80’s music…it was so fantastic back then!!!
For some crazy reason my hubby loved this song the minute it came onwe hit that dance floor immediately! He loved to dance to it! So i learned if there was a DJ id slip him a $20 request this cuz once we got on the dance floor I'd get to dance!!!
Earlier Foreigner 💯 Double Vision, Hot Blooded Head Games, Cold As Ice This is fine but is the beggining of the end for rocking Foreigner. After this they became more and more pop. who suggests this before the early rocking classics?
Again, this is the 80s in a song. The big hair, the biker shorts, the colours, white sneakers. Headbands, leg warmers. Ankle boots. Sassy attitudes. Swagger. The cellphone (brick), the walkman, the mix tape, Pac-man, Rubiks cube, Dallas, MASH. It was all slighly bonkers, but magical at the same time. Such fun. Thanks👾 Just wanted to add, I know things have been rough in Louisville last couple of weeks. Kia Kaha !

I saw Foreigner on their "Foreigner 4 Tour" in Austin, TXway back in '82. Mark Rivera - a longtime member and sax player in Billy Joel's band - was touring with Foreigner on that tour and killed the sax solo in Urgent. Months later that same year I saw him with Billy Joel on the "Nylon Curtain Tour". Loved y'all's reaction and highly recommend "Dirty White Boy", "Waiting For A Girl Like You", "Double-Vision", "Long Long Way From Home" and "Blue Monday Blue Day" to wet your Foreigner palate.
Cold as ice double vision Rev on the red line waiting for a girl like you I want to know what Love is and a crap load more art great songs by this band
Nick, you’re so right about radio robbing you of experiencing this. Radio edits chop out so much of really great songs, usually instrumental parts, intros, outros and sometimes complete verses are cut, just to fit it into a few minutes of airplay. Ty, Ryan and Nick, you’re a great team that’s getting better and better. Thanks for these fantastic reactions!!
One of Foreigner's BEST!! This song was "fire" back in 81' even though we did not have the sound systems that are around today. It sounds SO MUCH better today. The saxophone playing by Junior Walker gives this song a sexy vibe.
Love this song! Great reaction, guys. Foreigner has so many hits. You might also like "Waiting for a Girl Like You" (No. 2 for 10 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, from the same "Foreigner 4" album), "Juke Box Hero" (also from "Foreigner 4"), "Hot Blooded" and "I Want to Know What Love Is" (a No. 1 ballad).
Welcome to my time guys! I was sophomore in college and my roommate had thus album, Journey, Pink Floyd-The Wall, and I had many albums too. Depending on my mood, I put head phones on, turned record player up and rocked out while I studied for tests. Don't know how I learned a damn thing listening to this great music, but I did. So much fun watching yall get the good nasty face listening to this. We all get the nasty face with that sax solo! Glad to have you join us older rockers! ❤❤😊
The thing about headphones is you can't feel the music through your whole body. The bass rumbling in your chest, the music swirls around and envelopes you. Nothing beats a kick ass quad channel surround system. Especially for bands like Zep, Floyd and Rush. The first time you experience drums circling around and around you is astounding.
The sax player played for Billy Joel before being recruited by Foreigner. You guys should hear Dirty White Boy if you haven't already. Total Rock and Roll badassery!
Probably my favorite Foreigner song. The drums, the keyboards, the overall groove, that SAX, and Lou's vocals--he really sang the sh.. out of that song! Vocal fire.
THIS SONG!!! When it comes on the car radio, I play it as loud as I can stand. Hearing the opening notes, that driving beat of the verses, Lou Gramm's fantastic vocals, all the while waiting for that sax solo to drop...then basking in the afterglow.😌
4 was #1 on the Billboard charts for ten weeks. Juke Box Hero and Waiting for a Girl Like You were the other two hits on it. Waiting For A Girl Like You was #2 on the singles chart for months behind Olivia Newton John's Let's Get Physical.

Overall this whole album rocked. The production on this was so much better than their earlier records. His voice wasn't drowned out from the other instruments. He sounded clear and center. Love Lou Gramm's voice!
My older brother was teaching me how to drive when this came out, and it got a lot of airplay. Of course he’d blast it in the car. Hands down my favorite Foreigner song - it’s a banger. Juke Box Hero is another great cut from this album. 👍🏻
That sax is just DIRTY!
The whole song is dirty! That grooving bass beat, the guitar licks, the vocalist’s fiery inflection and intensity, and of course the sax!
this is their best song

Greatest sax solo in rock history.
One of them. My favorite is the sax solo on Maneater by Hall and Oates. Mainly because of the reverb/echo effect call and answer thing going on.
Yes
@@carlgibbons5777 That one's good, but Maneater is more R&B. Urgent is more rock.
Baker Street is my top favorite.
This has to be the gnarliest sax solo ever produced.
I think you guys would love Foreigner’s “Cold As Ice”.
And Jukebox Hero!
how the hell are they not in the rockin roll hall of fame
Thats a very very good question. I also can’t understand this. Definitely!!!
You are correct. Lou Gramm belongs in that elite tier of rock vocalists.
Yeah for sure. Him and Eric Carmen 👌🏼

That's the legendary Junior Walker on the sax solo.

Jukebox Hero, Hot Blooded, Cold as Ice...!! Love Foreigner!!
“Long long way from home”
Thomas Dolby played and programmed the synths on this album.
I love the little touches you can hear dropping in throughout. Just enough to be tasteful and give it some personality and ear candy.
Talk about someone worth listening too, Dolby was soooo good. Hyperactive and She Blinded Me With Science. Do any other songs capture the 80s as well?
