Greatest sax solo in rock history.
One of them. My favorite is the sax solo on Maneater by Hall and Oates. Mainly because of the reverb/echo effect call and answer thing going on.
Yes
@@carlgibbons5777 That one's good, but Maneater is more R&B. Urgent is more rock.
Baker Street is my top favorite.
Sax solo by the great Junior Walker. Did it in one take. He started packing up his instrument after he played it, and they asked him for additional takes. He shrugged and he obliged, but they still went with the first one. Junior Walker and the All Stars. Music royalty. And Foreigner knew it, and asked for it. They got it.
Thanks for that information. I NEVER KNEW that was Junior Walker! My Mom and Dad used to listen to Junior Walker and the Allstar and I loved them then. 😍
It wasn't one take. Junior record 5 different solos. What you hear on the track is 5 solos spliced together. The constructed solo was so popular that Junior had to learn it for their first live performance.
He may have needed to change the reed after that.
@@SupremeJudge Exactly!!! There´s a interview with the engineer (forgot his name) explaining this.... Mutt Lange, producer, was the genius behind it!
The other band that had a similar beat with the cars
this is their best song
You are correct. Lou Gramm belongs in that elite tier of rock vocalists.
Yeah for sure. Him and Eric Carmen 👌🏼
Lou Gramm was an elite vocalist! He had such a clean tone and could hit incredible notes.
He conveyed passion and intensity like few could. Love him.
So sad what happened to him…😢
Ok, here are some others to hit: "I Want to Know What Love Is", "As Cold as Ice", "Double Vision", "Hot Blooded", "Head Games", "Waiting for a Girl Like You". "I Want to Know What Love Is" is an epic love song that Lou Gramm puts his heart and soul into. And then back his vocals by a church choir and OMG, it touches my soul every time I hear it. Enjoy!
Left Juke Box Hero out? Unforgivable.
Also, "I Don't Want to Live Without You"
That Was Yesterday is their best song!!!
Long, Long Way From Home?
@@katg6325 A lot of people wish they never made that song! Hahaha. Pulled the rock right out of the band.
Lou Gramm…OMG. His expression, passion and story telling is unmatched. All-time great rock vocalist. Glad you guys are discovering his immense talent. Y’all have only scratched the surface on Foreigner’s hit machine. You could review the whole 4 album. Amazing band.
That's the legendary Junior Walker on the sax solo.
I was 12, had lost my dad to a heart defect 2 years earlier, and my mom desperate to get me into something, insisted one evening, "Tomorrow, you are joining band, pick an instrument". Later, listening to music in my room, this song came on the radio. The next day I picked the saxophone. I still play guitar, piano, sax, and bass today 40 years later.
This may be the best sax solo ever.
So heartwarming ❤️. My son just turned 12 and just finished 6th grade. Last year as school started he decided to join school band and chose the flute. He excelled at it and ended up getting chosen for honor band. Now he’s playing my grandmas piano I’ve had for years as well as my guitar, drums and he wants a bass for Christmas. Music can soothe the soul and heal hurts. So sorry you went through all that but your comment made me think that one day my son will have tons of instrument/music experience behind him.
🙏 ❤ 🎶
My Choice was The Alto Sax That I Played Because of this song.🎷
@@kerrijohnson2303 Music is a language, a philosophy, a way of life, a secret code, an inner journey, a communal experience, and the one thing that unites all peoples. Music is god in my eyes. The inner magic.
I can’t play Urgent enough. I never get tired of it. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve played this album. Feels Like the First Time is 70’s rock. Foreigner 4 is 80’s rock. They each sound their time period.
Thomas Dolby played and programmed the synths on this album.
I love the little touches you can hear dropping in throughout. Just enough to be tasteful and give it some personality and ear candy.
Talk about someone worth listening too, Dolby was soooo good. Hyperactive and She Blinded Me With Science. Do any other songs capture the 80s as well?
Who is someone whose catalog is far deeper than simply "She Blinded Me with Science".
how the hell are they not in the rockin roll hall of fame
Thats a very very good question. I also can’t understand this. Definitely!!!
Saw Foreigner and Journey in concert together. What an amazing night!
that’s the greatest rock sax solo ever!
Jukebox Hero, Hot Blooded, Cold as Ice...!! Love Foreigner!!
Oh yay! This is my favourite Foreigner song…can’t wait! 👏🏻👏🏻
Mine as well!
Mine too!
It was the first vinyl record I owned by Foreigner - it was a 45 rpm. After that I did buy Foreigner's Greatest Hits album. Yummy!
Mine Cold as Ice and Juke Box hero.
Me too!!!!!
Nick, you’re so right about radio robbing you of experiencing this. Radio edits chop out so much of really great songs, usually instrumental parts, intros, outros and sometimes complete verses are cut, just to fit it into a few minutes of airplay. Ty, Ryan and Nick, you’re a great team that’s getting better and better. Thanks for these fantastic reactions!!
They played the sax part on the radio in my area. Thankfully 😀
I had to Google who played the sax on this and was honestly amazed to see it was Junior Walker!😮❤🔥
Sounds like him, right?

Earlier Foreigner 💯
Double Vision, Hot Blooded
Head Games, Cold As Ice
This is fine but is the beggining of the end for rocking Foreigner. After this they became more and more pop. who suggests this before the early rocking classics?
Give me long long way from home and I can tell you what a rocker sounds like!
I agree I love their earlier stuff the best up to this album
@@jhamptonjr Yes for sure!!!
I agree! I much prefer their '70s hits.
Yes! Head Games!
"URGENT" was my California license plate in the early 1990s.
Jukebox Hero by Foreigner should be your next one, if you haven't done it already. They have a long list of great songs.
Mutt Lang produced, Junior Walker sax solo, and Lou Gramms vocals... perfect!
Thomas Dolby did some synthetic work on this album for waiting for a girl like you so that may be him also on this track. Juke box hero Is also another phenomenal track...
That sax is just DIRTY!
One of Foreigner's BEST!! This song was "fire" back in 81' even though we did not have the sound systems that are around today. It sounds SO MUCH better today. The saxophone playing by Junior Walker gives this song a sexy vibe.
Again, this is the 80s in a song. The big hair, the biker shorts, the colours, white sneakers. Headbands, leg warmers. Ankle boots. Sassy attitudes. Swagger. The cellphone (brick), the walkman, the mix tape, Pac-man, Rubiks cube, Dallas, MASH. It was all slighly bonkers, but magical at the same time. Such fun. Thanks👾
Just wanted to add, I know things have been rough in Louisville last couple of weeks. Kia Kaha !
70s bands were so strong that they managed to,kicl ass on the own and then supply the weak 88ies with plenty of great music without missing a stop! Unfortunately, LOU SUFFERED A,DEADLY BRAIN TUMER BUT WITH THE HELP OFTHE LORD, HE WAS HEALED!!
.
Probarly the best song in 81❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love this song! Great reaction, guys. Foreigner has so many hits. You might also like "Waiting for a Girl Like You" (No. 2 for 10 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, from the same "Foreigner 4" album), "Juke Box Hero" (also from "Foreigner 4"), "Hot Blooded" and "I Want to Know What Love Is" (a No. 1 ballad).
"I Want to Know What Love Is" rips at my soul. The live version with the choir is awesome.
Yes! Juke Box Hero! Idky people often over look that fire!
I love Juke Box Hero❤❤❤
Love Foreigner! They have many hits. Keep exploring. You won't be disappointed.
Junior Walker kills it on the solo!
Probably my favorite Foreigner song. The drums, the keyboards, the overall groove, that SAX, and Lou's vocals--he really sang the sh.. out of that song! Vocal fire.
THIS SONG!!! When it comes on the car radio, I play it as loud as I can stand. Hearing the opening notes, that driving beat of the verses, Lou Gramm's fantastic vocals, all the while waiting for that sax solo to drop...then basking in the afterglow.😌
The sax solo is amazing!!! We used to have a lot of horns in rock music, it was so great.
If you really like this song, check out this live version, ruclips.net/video/LZlLP4ZgHn4/видео.html
Lou Gramm has one of the best voices in rock. ❤❤️🔥🔥
It’s worth mentioning…. Thomas Dolby (Blinded By Science ) did a lot of the synthesizer work on this album
This whole album is fire 🔥juke box hero is amazing
My favorite foreigner album ✌️
My older brother was teaching me how to drive when this came out, and it got a lot of airplay. Of course he’d blast it in the car. Hands down my favorite Foreigner song - it’s a banger. Juke Box Hero is another great cut from this album. 👍🏻
If you really like this song, check out this live version, ruclips.net/video/LZlLP4ZgHn4/видео.html
The sax player played for Billy Joel before being recruited by Foreigner. You guys should hear Dirty White Boy if you haven't already. Total Rock and Roll badassery!
Waiting for a girl like you is an absolutely perfect compliment to this song-it was also on this album…you’ll love it…trust me
My fav Foreigner song
I love watching 3 guys boppin' to Foreigner!
This is my favorite Foreigner song !! ❤❤❤❤ Lou is the man!!!
I saw Foreigner on their "Foreigner 4 Tour" in Austin, TXway back in '82. Mark Rivera - a longtime member and sax player in Billy Joel's band - was touring with Foreigner on that tour and killed the sax solo in Urgent. Months later that same year I saw him with Billy Joel on the "Nylon Curtain Tour". Loved y'all's reaction and highly recommend "Dirty White Boy", "Waiting For A Girl Like You", "Double-Vision", "Long Long Way From Home" and "Blue Monday Blue Day" to wet your Foreigner palate.
Overall this whole album rocked. The production on this was so much better than their earlier records. His voice wasn't drowned out from the other instruments. He sounded clear and center. Love Lou Gramm's voice!
All of your reactions to this song is classic
Harmonics on sax solo is insane! So glad we were finally able to watch!! Stank faces!!"Urgent" still gets tons of air play. The dog whistle is the 'harmonics'. Not many studio musicians can produce like that. Truly a memorable horn solo within a great jam, lyrics most can relate to at some point. '81 was Foreigner's year. Anything off 4 is worth a listen.

Check out this live version,
I think you guys would love Foreigner’s “Cold As Ice”.
And Jukebox Hero!
The “sass in the brass” brought the stank face out in all of you. 😂
For some crazy reason my hubby loved this song the minute it came onwe hit that dance floor immediately! He loved to dance to it! So i learned if there was a DJ id slip him a $20 request this cuz once we got on the dance floor I'd get to dance!!!
The impact of this song on me was so big I can remember exactly where I was, what I was doing and when it was. Have loved it ever since!!
Foreigner.......just effing amazing!
The beginning of the song reminds me of "Too Much Time on My Hands" by Styx.
I had just graduated high school when this came out. Saw them in concert at least 6 times. Remember driving around and blasting the music and we would all be singing. Thanks for the great videos! New subscriber here. Keep up the awesome reactions. More Foreigner is a must!
Juke Box Hero is a powerful song from them. Of course you want to hear the version with lead singer Lou Gramm
Juke Box Hero should be the next song. You’ll love it. Thanks for always making me smile!
The sax part you are referring to was DEFINITELY on the radio.
They took a little piece of that sax solo out of the version I remember hearing, but yeah, the main part was the same.
@@TallyDrake Did you know the sax solo was put in by Alan Parsons
IMO, their best song ever!
I remember the first time I heard this song. A guy was blasting it on his car stereo in our high school parking lot. I thought it was so cool! Thanks for the reaction!
Foreigner 4 tour was my first "big" concert venue I ever went to...I've forgotten half the bands I've seen over the years, but this one will stick with me forever.
Hey guys that was a shortened version! The whole Foreigner 4 album is superb
Yeah, there's a part missing at the end.
This was THE ALBUM!!!
The thing about headphones is you can't feel the music through your whole body. The bass rumbling in your chest, the music swirls around and envelopes you. Nothing beats a kick ass quad channel surround system. Especially for bands like Zep, Floyd and Rush.
The first time you experience drums circling around and around you is astounding.
This song was everything when it came out. The Foreigner 4 tour was my first-ever rock concert.
Welcome to my time guys! I was sophomore in college and my roommate had thus album, Journey, Pink Floyd-The Wall, and I had many albums too. Depending on my mood, I put head phones on, turned record player up and rocked out while I studied for tests. Don't know how I learned a damn thing listening to this great music, but I did. So much fun watching yall get the good nasty face listening to this. We all get the nasty face with that sax solo! Glad to have you join us older rockers! ❤❤😊
I Started Playing The Alto Saxophone Because of this song!!!❤✌🔥🔥🔥
Doesn't surprise who wouldn't want to be able to sound like that
Foreigner Rocks. And the sax solo is so badass!!! Nuff said. 😆🎷
Fire and passion. You can hear it and feel it. This song has it all. I think it is the perfect song......
Christmas of 1981 (middle of my Freshman year) I was gifted with Foreigner "4", Journey "Escape", REO Speedwagon "Hi Infidelity" and Styx "Paradise Theater". Brings back the memories. One of Foreigner's lesser known radio songs (I think) is about street racing. It's called "Rev On The Red Line" off the "Head Games" (3rd) album. Still one my favorites by them.
Reacting to Rev on the Red Line is a must
Great Christmas!!
Wow! Those are the Greatest Gifts ever, all Four albums are Number 1 that Year!
I'm learning to recognize the Ryan head-bop of approval.
Yep, this was one of those songs played in the dance clubs on it's release. Loved it then, love it now!!!
Lou Gramm was the VOICE that put Foreigner on the map!
Wayyy better than the lead singer now.
That brilliant sax solo just elevates the whole record to another level. Superb.
One of the golden trio of best sax solos in history: Phil Kenzie in Al Stewart's "Time passages" (and YOTC), Junior Walker in this song, and Raphael Ravenscroft in Gerry Rafferty's "Baker Street".
Thank you, this and Waiting for a Girl Like You are my favorite Foreigner songs.. Love 4
As a Foreigner fan I totally agree with y’all. Urgent has always been one of my favorites.
Lead singer is Lou Gramm (Lou Grammatico) from where I live in Rochester NY. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_Gramm He was in a very popular local band named Black sheep and did well in other markets as well. You can find them on You Tube. When Foreigner was being formed the rest were Brits and since Lou was the only one not a Brit the name Foreigner came about. The sax is played by the late great Junior Walker: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Junior_Walker
It's OK, Nick; you were just born too late. Thank God I'm 64 and when this came out I was a sweet 19 year old!!!
I was 9 years old. But this song was still played on all school-Parties in the 80s. The best time of all!😊
One of my fave Foreigner songs along with "Cold As Ice". Y'all should check out their debut album. It's fire start to finish.
I agree, It's Fire!!!🔥🔥🔥
Junior Walker on sax❣️
That might be the best sax solo in music history. This is my favorite Foreigner song. I had this vinyl but foolish teenage me probably sold it for a couple bucks at a garage sale. Agree with you guys on vocals he was scorching. And when you listen on headphones you pick up just how good the bass is.
I don't know why my late hubby loved this song and would get up and dance to it.... Yippee finally I'd think. Then I thought well chit from now on I'll slip the DJ $20 bucks to play it early in the night! Otherwise I'd be sitting toe tapping! Lol
When this came out I immediately went and bought the album all the songs on this is great
The great Junior Walker on sax Motown finest
Wife Speaking..Hey Guys.., This band is truly Awesome!!..A few years ago I saw these guys in Charlotte NC..On "Jukebox Hero"..The Lead Singer rose way above us on a Platform that came out of the ground.!!.This song does and has always got ALOT of radio play in my area..Great Reaction!!..Love this song!!🤘👍😎
Love Foreigner ❤ 😍 💖
There’s so much new wave influence here. By 81 it had started to trickle into mainstream rock songs.
I loved their earlier stuff up until I heard this song, and WOW!!!! Imo best sax solo ever!!! Love your reactions... I always listened to them with the headphones on at home and true, they didn't sound the same on the radio.....
Juke Box Hero is one of my favorites from them.
Try JUKEBOX HERO also by Foreigner. I was in high school in the 80s and they were one of my favorites! Especially this album!!
Man, I love that I grew up in the 80s. 😎 The sax solo is the unsung hero of all 80s songs. Great reaction, guys.
I remember when this song came out. I was nineteen, and you better believe it was BIG!
So I was working at a record store when this album came out and we just kept selling them out, even the cassettes were flying out the door!
I can't even list the countless inner images and emotions that are triggered just by looking at the album cover. There were so many new experiences connected during this time... good ones as well as bad ones. It's like fireworks. We became blood brothers, had sex for the first time, roamed the streets at night and broke into cars just because we could...rolled our first cigarettes and drank our first whiskey. At the pool, on the diving towers and on our skateboards we were the greatest. We were 15!!! Some of us have been dead for 30 years because of bad luck with our cars and bikes. OMG! Only music can do that with you. We kids of the 70's and teenagers of the 80's are blessed with tons of these songs.
I’m 54. You’re entire comment took me right back to beautiful 70’s kid and 80’s teen memories! Wouldn’t trade any of it for all the money in the world. Priceless.
I was 9 when this song came out. Wonderful time to grow up.
My favorite Foreigner song Absolute Gold. I was riding my bike today listening to my music and Boz Scaggs's "Miss Sun" came on I thought I got to request this from The 502 gents so I'm hoping Y'all will give Boz some more love I know you won't be disappointed.
I burned a CD of my favorite songs that have extended endings (The Boxer, Hey Jude, Spirits Having Flown, etc) and Miss Sun is one of those songs. Such a great song that doesn't get a lot of mentions.
One of the original band members which Mick Jones released was the late, great Ian McDonald who had a large hand in Foreigner's success on their first three albums. Ian was a founding member of King Crimson before joining Foreigner.
This song is a testament to the fact that everything's about sax.
Break It Up was another great upbeat song off Foreigner 4 along with Waiting For A Girl
Like You along with Jukebox Hero.
Jukebox Hero and Head Games are 2 bangers you will love as much as this one. A solo by Lou that you should cover is Midnight Blue. He is in the top 5 lead singers in classic rock
Go Ryan, go Ryan..😊
