When I lived in LA, Ian Astbury would sometimes be hanging out at the clubs - The Whiskey, Viper Room, etc... whatever band would hear that he was there and start playing Cult opening riffs and he would jump up on stage and do as many Cult songs as they new - it kind of became a thing... he even just sang Happy Birthday to a girl once. He was really cool and super approachable.

True story: Before one of the Cults concerts, we saw Ian at a Starbucks and my sister had brought the tambourine with her (hoping to get it signed) She was hesitant to approach him and ask him to sign it, not wanting to make a scene. (I kept nudging her to go up to him) She went up to him respectfully and told him we were there to watch his concert that night. Ian seemed bothered but signed her tambourine anyway. To this day she still has that tambourine.

First saw them in Austin when they opened for REM in 1989 and still remember their performance to this day. Probably one of the best underrated band ever. Great vocals, great guitars, great drums, bad ass bass lines. Love this band. I saw someone post i think on another channel and i agree with them, “i don’t always listen to the Cult, but when i do, so do the neighbors!” Couldnt be more true. Thanks for this video.

Ian Astbury can belt out these total bangers, and then sing a ballad or something goth-y. Amazing performer. Sonic Temple is one of my all-time favorite albums.

The Cult are still killing it. I saw them twice in 2019 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta and got lucky on a trip to NYC and saw them at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester. Absolutely rocked the house down.

I remember The Cult in playing in heavy rotation in the dorm during my days ('86- '89) overseas. Love Removal Machine was usually playing at levels not recommended for continued hearing.

    Finally the Cult!!!!
Ian Astbury an unhinged loose canon for a frontman and Billy Duffy a guitar god, so under rated as a band. Checkout “Edie” and “Rain” from them.

This is a fantastic song to drive to, especially with a manual transmission.... that three pitch "Fire..." takes you from 1st to 4th gear perfectly when accelerating. Also the slow parts allow you to down shift and then do hard shifts to accelerate when it speeds up again.
