Thanks Tara! Glad to hear!
Thanks for these great tips and tricks for raising this beautiful floating Pyllanthus Fluitans plant!
Thank you for watching mate! It sure is a beautiful floating plant!
Always wanted to try these floaters!
They're certainly an easy floater to grow!
Thank you for sharing, you were very direct in telling me exactly what I needed to know.
Thanks for watching Kandi! Glad to hear and good luck with your red root floaters!!
Great explanation on the red root floaters
Thanks man! Means a lot as always!
Spot on Laz. I had this plant in a high flow tank and in a sponge filter only tank. It grew significantly better in the slower moving water.
Yeah, mainly because they originate from slow-moving waters, so they don't have the ability to adapt to high-flow environments! Thanks for watching GV! Have a good one mate!
Rrf really does give a red coloration not mainly on the light , but on the nutrients level, low nutrients will turn these floaters red in color. 💯💯💯👌👌👌
Yeah, that's right. It sucks for a lot of other plants tho because they can starve and die, while the reds are flourishing. You just need to find that sweet spot of a little amount of fertiliser being dosed in the tank that's enough for all the plants, but not too much for the red leaves of the red plants.
Never thought we’d tell someone they had a lovely floater but here we go Laz….😆😆 fantastic video as always sir🌱🌱😀😀👍👍
Haha thanks guys! It is quite a unique and awesome floating plant! Have a good one guys!
Grate vid Laz,I just ordered some of these form a store called H2O plants 🌱
Ah, they look like an amazing plant seller, so jealous haha. They've got some nice plants for good prices too, comparing to the australian market! Thanks for watching Fish Central! Have a good one!
Amazing video-thanks for sharing the great info-from piano player new friend in UK ❤️🎹
Thanks for watching Magnilay!
Just recommend these the other day
Yeah they're a floater everyone's gotta try to see if they like it or not in their own tanks. That's the only way in my opinion!
Dear Lazarus:
red root floater (Phyllanthus fluitans)
to trim:
Simply remove the floaters as they spread, to keep your, desired look. The leaves can grow to be up to .66 inches in diameter. Each leaf has two pockets, located to the left & right of the center of the leaf. Leaves will grow around nodes along a central stalk with one leaf per node attached to the roots.
to keep red:
Keeping the pH levels between 6.5 and 7.5 and the temperature between 72-80°F will help ensure that the red root floater will thrive. Having the temperature any higher than this range may cause the plant to melt.
basis needs:
Care is extremely easy for red root floater. It can thrive in a relatively wide pH range as well as low to high lighting. It does not do well with a high level of surface agitation.
The plant is very beneficial for the aquarium because the it removes excess nutrients; biological waste; and, contaminants.
I find that scaping with compost (processed horse manure, which is very cheap from landscaping, supply outlets) makes the addition of liquid fertilize or root tabs unnecessary. I “cap” compost with coal dust, which is also very inexpensive and a joy to plant. It’s also the right color: black.
Thank you for sharing your, terrific species profile on Phyllanthus fluitans.
All my best,
Sincerely,
E. J. Brinegar
Thanks for the in depth info. Most of it I did mention in the video! I am now farming this stuff for my friend who's gonna sell aquarium plants as a hobby and make money from it, and to get more buyers I provide him red roots so he can give each customer 5 free red root floaters haha. Thanks for watching EJ! Have a good one!
Dear Lazarus:
It's fun to trade and sell aquatic plants.
I was disappointed with the money my, local, pet store gave me for salvinia. I took them about a dozen, nice specimens and only got $3.00. Sometimes they do me right. Other times, they cheat me. But, I do want to keep them happy. Getting anything at all for live plants is great, as Java moss grows like a week, for me.
It's also fun to give things away. It's nice of you to help your friend with valuable plants.
Sincerely,
Brinegar
Try to cut your fertilizer to be able to see that deep red color. On your rrf.
Hello,Lazarus this is a species I’m interested in fantastic information mate! I think I will be buying some on eBay, I will be starting my aquascape tank very soon, if you ever want to do a colaboration live stream sometime, I think that would be epic🙂👍🏻 Thanks for the video -Jeff.
Nice Video, Would like to see an Amazon Affiliate link to what light you use. :)
Haha, no affiliate, but I do use the Petworx on my nano tank, but basically any light with rgb spectrum grows it dark red 👍
This is the light I use on the nano tank: www.natureaquariums.com.au/products/pet-worx-mini-led-lamp-3w
Thanks for watching Jonathan! Have a good one mate!
Can you not have a lid with red root floaters? I have a Betta tank with glass lid. It has some condensation because of the heater.
Red Root Floaters do better without a lid in my experience, but lids on the tank also work well. It's up to you, but since you have a Betta that's prone to jump, then I'd have a lid on the tank with the Red Root Floaters. As long as the roots are in water, the leaves don't dry out or anything. Good luck with your Floaters CS, and thanks for watching mate!
what if we trim a little bit of their root, are they still alive?
Hmmm I don’t do that myself because I like the roots, but it should be fine, as long as you’re leaving some for it to still grow 👍
They don't seem to survive shipping.
If you can buy it in store or request an online store to do this, they can soak the plants in tissue paper rather than in a bag of water, they do really well like that in my experience.
