    Etta and Beyoncé should have sang the song together at the Inauguration. Let the original sing a least a verse or two! Having a 70 year old woman singing, a woman who endured JIM CROW, the woman who sang the song during the civil rights era MAKES SO MUCH SENSE. How is it not Beyonce's fault? Beyonce claims everything goes through her first. If beyonce had any decorum or respect for artists that came before her or after her, she would have contacted Etta James and either get her blessings or include her in singing together. She literally played Etta James in a film. Did Beyonce even study Etta like Angela Bassett studied Tina before doing the movie? Now I'm curious. And before you go into your worship mode of Beyonce, just remember Beyonce did the same thing to Ledisi at the Grammys. Took the moment from Ledisi to sing a song she had no business doing, when Ledisi sang and played the role in the actual movie. Y'all are gonna understand Beyonce uses her power and influence and the males she's surrounded by (her father, Jay-Z), to sabotage and step on other black women in the industry to move up. Cuz she definitely can't sabotage Taylor Swift mediocre self.

    Such a sad story, but like Tina Turner, she fought hard to be recognised. Etta James was an incredibly strong young woman who never let hard times destroy her; she just kept it moving. Thank you for the wonderful songs you wrote Etta; especially 'ROLL WITH ME HENRY' RIP JAMESETTA

    No! That's Ettas song. PERIOD!
    She could have at least asked to sing it with Etta. And told the Obamas that she wanted Etta woth her to help since it was really her song, not Beys. I love Etta James. ❤️

      It's a song that anyone can and a lot of singers have sung, idc that it was Etta's signature song.. If she had a problem, it should have been directed at the Obamas for requesting it be sang by Beyonce; not attack Beyonce. But, I do understand that her outburst was probably due to her dementia. I felt bad for Beyonce, who only sang a song as requested.

    • @missladybug73
      @missladybug73 8 месяцев назад

      @La-wr5dn idc how you feel. These new generations are so disrespectful. You could have put your comment elsewhere, not on my feed. I've a right to my opinion. Just because you're probably from the bee hive and a bey suoerfan. Go be a sheep somewhere else. I give respect to the originals. Bye!

    • @AngeBiampandou

      The song was a cover. Etta wasn't the original singer of the song but a dark skinned black woman was. Her version ended being forgotten and went unnoticed by the masses while Etta's rendition completely overshadowed her. Etta was a bitter old lady like many of them are period. She is still an icon but stop capping for her bc she's an elder

    • @baylorsailor
      @baylorsailor 8 месяцев назад +12

      "At Last" was not an original song of Etta's it was written by two men years before she performed it. She was not the first to cover the song. Her anger at Beyonce didn't make sense since it wasn't HER song perse.

      Agreed. Literally everyone under here are in worship mode of stealing Beyonce and not looking at the respect that should have been shown. Why tf did you play her in a movie then, if you had no respect for her to begin with. This is why Angela Bassett is respected. Never disrespected Tina Turner

  • @amb7412

    Great video with pictures that I've never seen of her. She was a power house. In hindsight Beyonce probably should have spoken to Ms. James about such an honor of Performing for the first Black President of the U.S.A. She could have even invited her to share the limelight of doing it together, Maybe having Ms. James start it and she finished it for the First family. it was a clumsy insult for a person who suffered a broken painful existence. Hurt people hurt people and her life was full of unmentionable pain. Thank you for highlighting this musical powerhouse.

      I agree. It’s not her fault that the Obamas wanted her to sing. But I feel like they were wrong about not including her in any way knowing that Beyonce was singing her song or Beyonce could have included her in the performance herself. Better yet, Beyonce could have sang one of her very own songs. I see both sides.

    This is why Etta prefered Christina Aguilera to Beyoncé. She had complete respect and love for Etta and makes sure the world knows it. Beyoncé is just a cash grab that as always, decided the spotlight was entirely for her; same as she did in Destiny's Child.
