Etta and Beyoncé should have sang the song together at the Inauguration. Let the original sing a least a verse or two! @trezurelove1578 first off; learn to proof read. Second, it's the entitlement of Beyoncé and how she feels like she can do whatever she pleases without asking the owners of the songs, she steals song writers songs and doesn't use them so they can't get paid for them and she sings other artists songs without talking to them first, Christina shows respect and comes to the artists first, she treats them with respect which is something Beyonce doesn't have, therefore she was put to the bottom of the list for Etta 🤷🏽‍♀️

It’s not about giving Etta James a heads-up but more about asking her if she could. Singing as a portrayal of Ms. James is one thing but to sing like it was her song without permission is another. And, the Obamas should have known better too. It should have, “Ms. James would you sing your iconic song for us?” if she said no. Then would you mind if Beyonce sang it. i understand her anger with the song and not being invited to sing or even considered. firstly because it brings up old wounds of having what she worked hard at taken away with no credit, and secondly because she wasn’t even considered or acknowledged to sing her own song! i don’t think it’s right for her to say such harsh things about beyoncé because it wasn’t her fault but i completely understood her hurt feelings and turning nasty

    • @kittensmitten3287

How is it not Beyonce's fault? Beyonce claims everything goes through her first. If beyonce had any decorum or respect for artists that came before her or after her, she would have contacted Etta James and either get her blessings or include her in singing together. She literally played Etta James in a film. Did Beyonce even study Etta like Angela Bassett studied Tina before doing the movie? Now I'm curious. And before you go into your worship mode of Beyonce, just remember Beyonce did the same thing to Ledisi at the Grammys. Took the moment from Ledisi to sing a song she had no business doing, when Ledisi sang and played the role in the actual movie. Y'all are gonna understand Beyonce uses her power and influence and the males she's surrounded by (her father, Jay-Z), to sabotage and step on other black women in the industry to move up. Cuz she definitely can't sabotage Taylor Swift mediocre self.

where do people get this idea does someone that's entitled, Etta James you might have been a great singer and celebrity. but time moves on, it doesn't stop for any of us. I don't like beyoncé, I have never liked beyoncé, I don't like beyoncé's music that shit's childish but I will say that the Obama's, whom I don't like either, it's up to them to choose who they want at their inauguration. Etta James was not entitled to be there, it was okay for her to be upset about it and the voice her feelings, that's part of being a diva, but to say that she was done wrong, that's like if they would have invited the rolling Stones, and Aerosmith felt like they should have been there, come on. are you serious. I can't believe people are still talking about this and acting like someone did something wrong they can choose to have who they want there there is no person entitled to be at something where there are invitations giving out, grow up.

In hindsight Beyonce probably should have spoken to Ms. James about such an honor of Performing for the first Black President of the U.S.A. She could have even invited her to share the limelight of doing it together, Maybe having Ms. James start it and she finished it for the First family. it was a clumsy insult for a person who suffered a broken painful existence. They had the itinerary all planned ahead for our stay and I was the last person to join and we were walking down a street on route to a planned show and I saw she was there scheduled to performed same time at another location. I wanted to go so much and the rest were indifferent including the potential partner. I always regretted this opportunity. I first discovered Etta James walking into a vintage design store in Toronto with beautiful old wood floors and just oozing with retro style.
