- Here in this video I will be discussing an issue I had with my 2012 Volvo VNL780 D13 motor, something so simple which lead me to believe it was something mechanical, Comment and like for more videos on my Volvo. hopefully this video can help someone with a similar issue. Thank you I’m have the same problem and no one can figure it out. We’ve replaced vcu, pedal, speed sensor and all. Now I’ll check the wiring. 🙌🙏

Man, you need to Big Ups that shop! After all those other shops that did not find the issue.....that shop that fixed deserves to be shouted out.
I looking to get me a Volvo - 780 as well. Will definitely want a good shop like that one.
I had a loose wire in the battery box for the ecm on my volvo with a cummins that caused it to cut out and cut in. Easy fix but it scared me. The mechanic knew what to do when I describe the symptoms.
One of the things with me was the battery's but still checking
Transmission speed sensor was nearly connected properly. Maybe low Transmission fluid but Still checking . It's getting better so far

Mine was caused by my eld wiring harness. Unplug eld and see if it runs good.
Did the new eld wiring fix it

@billgentry3679 checked each wire by wire with a multimeter, wiring connector is fine ,,,, could be someone is shorting the ground with power wire through the software.... other than that it's definitely a intermittent short ground/power happening!
I had a similar problem like that with a detroit 60.It was my fuel line discengrating.

Had the same issue with a mp8 same as d13, ended up being the engine harness
check your grounds as well
Some volvo trk if the temp sensor goes out, your trk will turn off. Check the temp gauge to see what the temperature reads around 210 to 225 it riding hot. This might be one reason the trk is turning off
I was having problems of lose of power on my freightliner with C15 cat engine... 2 months ago ... Mechanic changed the injectors.. and fixed the problem... now its back again ... no power when I'm going uphill and sometimes power is normal ... i can't figure it out... it cant be injectors again
Ridhwan Ta-rer my dad had the same problem , he changed intake gaskets and the problem went away, but my brother in-law had a detroit with the same issue and he changed the computer and his truck was like new! same issue different fixes lol

yea cheap fix! but check the gaskets on turbo and intake cause any leak will do that too
I have the same problem is it safe to drive like this I just got my truck out of the shop and it's still giving the same problem losing power I was coming out of the truck stop and it lost power right as I was coming of the truck stop
It can be many things, it’s shutting off and you haven’t even applied pressure to the system
Sounds like a sensor or big boost leak, does the truck shut off?

Or loosing boost elsewhere

With international
But your on point, Intercooler do make you lose power and lots of times you won’t know until you pressure test it.

Javier Amador no as long as you have fuel you can see bubbles... sorry for the late response.
Check your batteries, they might be damaged, i would loose power thinking it was the fuel filters, but it was not. The truck would loose power then shut off, I turned off the trk and restarted it right away and it would travel for couple mins then it start doing it again.
Checked the batteries, two of them were damaged, replaced the damaged batteries.
Im driving the truck and so far no problems, i also had the computer reset to remove all codes
I have the exact same problem, I would be riding and every 50-100 miles I would lose acceleration, when I stop truck goes off immediately, starts right back on and works normally, I replaced and cleaned fuel and water separator and its still doing the same thing, I have all new batteries put up in june, I checked connection on batteries it seems to be fine, I don't know what to do..

Hey man my truck is a 2012. It was running fine with check engine on. I went on vacation for a week and when I try to start it the lights would come on, but it won’t crank at all. The only message i get it Maintenance required vehicle Ecu. And j1939 Communication error with Engine ECU. Please help me out with this if you have any idea what could it be
That’s deff a corroded cable! Check all negative/power cables to ecu. There’s one on the battery too. Most likely it’s a bad negative wire

hey i have a 2007 volvo 670 10 speed my truck set about 2 years and my truck was running good when i originally park it....and it has about 1/2 tank of fuel in it ..so i got ready to start the truck up after 2 years of sitting and got some new batteries in it and it started right up idling beautiful i go to drive it and its if i dont have no power it takes along time to get to 50mph and i have the gas pedal to the floor ..i changed the two filters and put some additive in it i put howes and lucas injector cleaner and fuel conditioner in i went back out to test drive it .and it seemed to be alittle better i was able to get 60 mph but it still taking along time to get there i drove about 90 miles.but it still doing the same thing it is not smoking it but it is actually running good but i dont have no power...there is no code lights on..do you think i need to put somemore additive in it and drive it more..
Honestly I wouldn’t put anymore. I am no fan of additives. Now have you checked the speed sensor on the transmission? Also have you checked for any boost leaks?

I am driving down the road and all of the sudden i lose acceleration, gas pedal doesnt rev up the engine, when i pull over trucks turns off immediately. I turn it back on and it works normally for 50-100 miles then does it again. I replaced fuel/water separetor, it still does the same thing. All batteries are put new in june, you have any ideas that i should try myself before bringing it to the shop?
No codes on the dashboard.
Check water temp sensor, also check if your getting any pressure in the expansion tank. Mine would do the same and I found out it was pressure going thru my injector cups. Injector tips are worn on mine

Additional discovery is that all of that was happening while pulling 44k load, today I was pulling 5k load and didn't have any problems on the same rd, talking about 90 between Buffalo and Boston.
Will check it once I get home, I will replace sensor first thing tommorow. Thank you.
@@kimjong-un9255 you know why?…. Because it’s heavy and it heats up faster….. when hauling a lighter load there’s less pressure on the engine vs a heavy load.

@@kimjong-un9255 lol hope so and check your coolant levels… make sure you start the day with it leveled and before you shut it off check if it’s still leveled at the end of the day.

United brakes and clutch in newark Nj, ask for Adolfo. You can only go bob tail. Look them up and give them a call

Did you have any codes in the diagnostic?
I did not, you know what I notice these Volvos fail when there’s some kind of short in the current. Especially with the negative wires.
It's in the transmission wiring harness..
Yes if it was automatic, my uncle had that issue.. mine is 10spd.. it was a ground cable behind my radio creating a bad contact

It’s called United brakes and clutch, in newark nj. Ask for Adolfo he’s down the block to the left at the dead end

Have you checked the speed sensor on the driver side transmission? Close to the shaft
Did you figure out what it was? Mine happened too everything in the dash works but not my speedometer

I drive a 2021 VNL760 with 59k miles. I can't control the heater after the cab reach 62 degrees. I can only get heat if I turn the temp to 80. The heat come out the vents @ 145 degrees. Volvo can't fix it.
Sounds like a temp sensor issue, where you located? I’m sure my boy can figure it out he’s a block away from where United brakes and clutch in newark is located.

Was your truck reading 9.0v on the dash?
John DeJean no it’s was 13.8 on and 12.7 off if I remember correctly
I had same thing on my 2018 d13. It was fuel pump issue
My truck started doing this yesterday gonna take out the radio and look for that wire

Manuel als oh you are far, i was going to send you to my friend in new jersey. all he does is volvo’s, mine was turning off when this would happen... did you check the boost sensor? mine was full of carbon when i had a problem like yours
Im in volvo now im going the turbo boost sensor but the thing is no check engine light and took to different people noone could tell. I also change injector cup and injectors
Manuel als remove the boost sensor and check it, mine had carbon build up. once i changed it i got a lot of power back... this issues of me loosing power was different from what you are having.

@@01.......... might be a negative cable running to the ecu, a cousin of mine had that issue also. It’s always something different not always the same problem to fix the same issue

Hello. Start with checking boost sensor, then if that’s clean use a spray bottle with soapy water and check all air Intercooler pipe to see if there are any bubbles.... what exactly happens to your truck?
@@Rcaceres the TCS light comes on and my truck loses power, it starts going into Neutral mode and I hit the pedal and nothing,, then the TCS light goes off and truck works fine... moments later it does it all over again...
@@ignacio7884 you got one or two problems, your abs sensor from one of your wheels..... or a bad wire that you would need to locate which wheel its coming from and follow the wires to see if it is cut or corroded.

don't waist your money, volvo engines are good engines but mucho money to fix it, jus get another engine from 8500 to 13500, and get back to the road; by the way I have a 2010 volvo D13 678,000 miles, who is interested? let me know, I'm in san antonio tx, it's 500 dollars for shiping.

There’s a lot that can cause this. I figured it out as I go….. low coolant, bad electrical connections. Truck goes into limp mode. You have to shut it off and restart it again to take off?
@@Rcaceres it started cutting out on a bumpy road up here in Canada .. works fine for few hour then acts up again .. gotta pump fuel pedal to get life back .. though it was fixed then started up again .. symptoms seem to be same as yours

Coolant is low. Put coolant in fill it up it’ll stop

Glad they fixed it. Glad they’re not a bull s@it shop like most of them I’ve found. What is the name of the shop in case I’m in Newark and need some work done? There is a shop in Chicago called truck works of Brookfield (Brookfield Illinois) that seem to be pretty good they found wire issues with mine they are about the same as yours but they only do light work. No engines, they don’t even do head gaskets. I live near Atlanta and I’m not taking my truck to anybody down there anymore they are the worst! But I digress I’m glad you got it fixed

@@jsta625 check your boost sensor, intake pipes for leaks (use a spray bottle with soapy water while the engine runs and spray all air connections)
@Rcaceres replaced the boost sensor, injector cups injectors 3 fuel pumps accessorie drive fuel filter housing and sensor, fuel water separator housing all 3 check valves all new hoses engine harness and ecm ,, 6 moths down the road this agai happens same fuel feed pressure check engine Code and power comes and goes in the 10th I've put 30k in shop bills so far and I lost my mind ,,,,It must be something small like a ground wire
