  • Welcome to Schony747 trains on Wednesday. If you enjoy the video, hit the like button and smash the bell for weekly updates on Schony747.
    Today Schony747 is at The Seymour Locomotive Depot and The Seymour Dual Gauge Turntable. Last week, Schony747 featured the transfer of 9 retired V/Line Passenger Cars from Seymour to Albury. This week Schony747 features the shunting movements that put the 9 car consist together for the transfer north.
    N460 and N464 transferred 3 passenger cars from Melbourne to join 6 other cars from stored at The Seymour Railway Heritage Centre (SRHC). The other 6 cars were transferred from the SRHC to join the consist. All cars had to be transferred through the dual gauge turntable due to the track layout at Seymour. This video shows the complex transfer movements through the turntable and the final departure to Seymour.
    Thanks to David Clarke Australian Trains for the extra video -

    Elephant in the room. "Complicated shunt" it's only a complicated shunt if the train crew don't know what they're doing. I trust the boys at Vline would know and plan alongside the Seymour Locos for hire centre. Other than addressing the elephant. A very nice video young sir.

      Complicated from a layman's point of view. From your point of view pretty straight forward but very time consuming I reckon. And the guys from V/Line and Seymour did a great job. Nice to hear from you again.

      @@Schony747 Yep definitely complicated if you don't understand what you're doing. Which is where you are as of course you're not experienced in the rail industry. I'm always around mate I just pop by when things need clearing up and enjoy watching people's videos of a great job I once had. Miss it daily.

    Awesome video yet again. I enjoyed it. I also saw a few N class carriages heading south the other night through Benalla. I don’t know what that was about.
    But it must be a pain in the backside for SRHC to shunt on the turntable for SG tours and operations. Surely you would have thought when they converted the gauge over, they would have simplified the shunting process for SG operations.
    I’m also surprised the High Street level crossing kept its Westinghouse Hybrid bells when they changed the crossbuck signage over to the red background crossbucks.

    • @Schony747
      @Schony747  Год назад +1

      The returning cars were from a SRHC charter to Albury using the former Spirit of Progress cars. The shunting movement was complicated enough for that train at Albury as the 3 Vlocity sets had to be moved to Wodonga while the N class ran around the heritage set.

    I wonder what has happened to the PCJ’s and what their future will be? Doesn’t seem like they have been mentioned much anywhere. It would be nice to see them gauge converted to BG and finish their active service for the few years that are left with V/line, but you could only imagine.

    • @Schony747
      @Schony747  Год назад +1

      Highly unlikely they will be converted to BG as the BG cars have individual generators underneath the cars. The preservation groups are getting some SG cars so maybe the power cars should end up there.

    Nice video Brenden, quite annoying it had to happen on a school day. I’m glad you caught it.
    9:50 - I think you meant P13 as you made a little typo…
    12:50 - Yuck, not that thing. I mean, the government can’t keep ordering the same model from the early 2000s forever.
    I bet the state government hardly rides suburban and regional trains and what both of them need.
    The UK is a good overseas example of an approach of trains being designed and then built for specific purposes, not the Australian approach of one fits all.
    15:15 - It makes me think why did someone came up with the idea of putting H sets on long distance services like Shepparton.
    I think that someone didn’t notice that the H type carriages were designed for commuter trains to places like Bacchus Marsh, Kyneton, and others…or did they?
    17:50 - Nice to see the ACN facing the opposite direction, that probably has happened before.
    And still, good video.

    • @Schony747
      @Schony747  Год назад +1

      From what I can gather the only way to access the standard gauge is through the turntable and that's why the cars had to be turned onto the track that accesses the line.

      @@Schony747 Thanks. However, I've spent many hours at that TT, and the SG track is both entry and exit. A loco/etc destined north has to exit south to pick up the running line, to either direction. Hence my question.
      Off topic. When Flying Scotsman was here, it ran Friday dinner specials, passengers got off at the old SG platform into their bus for Mitchelton Winery. 4472 took its train on to the Seymour loop, and ran back to the depot where it was serviced. A group of us, on a few occasions, drove down from Shepparton and Echuca and had a marvellous time talking to the crew, inspecting the cab, etc. When needed, FS exited funnel first to the running line, then tender first back to the loop to rejoin the train before running it back to reload at the station, and depart for Spencer Street. Aah, memories!
