6:17 WOW I’m listening with earphones in and volume up high and the combination of the hard exhaust and the stereo recording gives a great impression like you are actually in the train. ❤ Fantastic to see that another brand new locomotive is in operation adding to our precious heritage which is like no where else in the world. ❤
I love it so much that steam trains are being rebuilt. It's like railway preservation has gained a new superpower in giving old iron horses new life. :)
Really nice film must have been a delight to film this special trip. The driver and fireman were like a kid with a new toy.Lots of whistles and waving to the public. Truly a social day.
I am old enough to remember the days of steam. My great uncle worked on the trains for all his working life and retired in 1965, and lived for another 40 years. He finished up as the superintendent on dining cars and was always loved his job. He earned a respectable wage but in those days I think the job came first.
Near the very end of WR steam I was pulled from Leamington to Paddington by two Granges. Someone had polished up their green livery. At Paddington they looked superb, quite some time after steam had gone from there. So pleased to see this revival.
What a beauty! I can´t await the first outrun of the other loco which is new build up, but may last a few time to be ready! Hopefully that we may see her in a short time ! ! !
Who is the unsung hero of West Somerset Railway? The man who designed and walked every mile from Minehead to Bishop's Lydeard. The man who is never mentioned?
Sort of, the Hymek hauled the first service to Lydeard, then top and tailed with the Grange which was up front on the 12.30 to Minehead, then the Hymek continued booked services through the afternoon
@@Hattonbank Tornado is rated at 2700 metric horsepower. Slightly more than our lawnmower and a lot more than most people can imagine! Just some sort of measure I suppose but you can be sure than Sir Nigel Gresley would have worked it out on the design table. Quite staggering.
West Somerset Railway in Somerset South West England. Bishops Lydeard to Minehead is (20) twenty miles .(9) Nine stations and one halt. I hope this helps.
It's not new, it's been converted from a large piraire tank engine I was told from one of the engine drivers last year, which I feel ruins a large piraire for another manor unnesersarly
Your thinking of 9351 which the WSR built/converted themselves to create a type the GWR designed but never built themselves. The loco in the video was the brand new Grange that was completed earlier this year. Ok it used some parts from other gwr engines but it's new frames. It's halfway between a hall and manor. Effectively a manor chassis fitted with a hall boiler.
@@mattlander9119 There is confusion here for the non "steamhead" like me. To me "brand new" means a complete new build like LNER 4-6-2 Peppercorn Class A1 "Tornado" or the LNER 2-8-2 Class P2 "Prince Of Wales", neither of which use restored or recoverable parts. I believe there are only two "brand new" steam locomotives in the UK using that criteria.
What will you do when there is no dirty coal or dirty oil. Hydrogen created to order is clean and can produce large quantities of steam to drive your steam engine, not a joke just a lack of thinking outside the coal box. Almost back to the future. The billionaire JCB manufacturer has done his homework he has converted the basic diesel engine block with a different controlsystem that burns Hydrogen.
The whole hermitage steam industry is minuscule in carbon emissions compared to just one coal fired power station, the problem is do they burn dirty European or Australian coal or clean Welsh Steam Coal?

got to love them GWR loco's they are elegant ladies

special day
Thank you! yes very unexpected movement but a great run on the line with the Grange!

Great footage. Betton Grange is a beautiful engine and it's great to see it running!
My Dad was a Great Western fan. He would of loved this video of Betton Grange puffing along this long line.
Beautiful. Even an engine leaving the works from a major overhaul doesn't have quite that factory-fresh gleam of 6880.
Fabulous line and loco!! I love it when she's drifting and then they open her up, and you get that high frequency "chiff" from the blast - so GWR!
I would not pay any money to travel behind a diesel loco, even if they did paint it green. What a scam !
Superb. Beautiful countryside and a great looking Locomotive, Martin (Thailand)
I was thinking exactly the same.
Lovely video. Thanks. Doesn’t need silly music at start and end. Just great shots of your lovely line.
Smooth as silk and a nicley tuned whistle , Beautiful. Great to know we still have the craftsmen and can still build them 👍🤗
Great video, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Many thanks.
Wonderful. Looking forward to visiting the area again unexpectedly mid-August. I love this whole area of Somerset.❤
Superb video of a stunning looking loco' in late BR green

My father would have liked this. He was a GWR man. He died sometime in the early 90s and had his ashes scattered at Quainton.
A magnificent achievement

EXCELLENT. STEAM.IS.BACK.GREAT.VIDEO
I was that kid next to you! Nice meeting you and great footage
Great stuff mate, was a cracking run and glad you had a good day on the railway!
Keep building. Is this the future, I hope so.
As per David Morris, yes smooth as silk! She runs like a sowing machine and all credit to PW staff, hardly a wobble.
What a cute little chooch! This American says "Well done mates!".
Rather Nice. Thank You.
Good video! I was on the Hymek back to Lydeard!
BRILLIANT PRESENTATION.
Don't they look a treat and sound even better?
Amazing! Can't wait to see her again soon.
Very nice indeed! Hope to get down there myself during July for 6880. Was nice on the GWSR but is something else on the WSR!
Beautiful ? All we need now is the G.W,R. County class locomotive in operation,to complete the set ? sorry forgot the night 😞 owl 😕 407?.
2.23,can be seen very good. what is that - dome thing - at the back behind the coals on that Loco?Water?
Gods Wonderful Railway lives on.
Are their videos of the new girl being built from the frame up.
Great content, Thank you! really enjoyed this. was only down on the Witherslack Hall the other week ☺☺☺
Beautiful ❤

Who is he? Why don't you tell us?
Not seen a lamp on the Hymek in such an unusual place!
Did this run instead of the diesel?
Sort of, the Hymek hauled the first service to Lydeard, then top and tailed with the Grange which was up front on the 12.30 to Minehead, then the Hymek continued booked services through the afternoon
almost 50min of the video loco is barely visible :(
It's filmed from the train, so what did you expect?
Now all we need is a rake of clay "hoods"!
How many hp does betton grange put out? A long legged loco.
Horse power? It's not a bloody diesel!

I thought the North Yorkshire Moors Railway was longer than the West Somerset, but I could be wrong.

N0 w0nder they tried to close this line it served very few communities.
Great new loco.....shame about the dreadfully constructed nameplates.
Why, what's wrong with them? They look perfectly good to me. Don't talk such nonsense!
