Do you get stringiness when you refresh? I hope these tips help! Notes & summary of everything discussed on my blog: genamarie.co/2023/12/how-to-fix-stringy-curls-when-refreshing-clump-curls/ Shop my store & filter products: genamarie.co/shop/
You’ve helped me solve a decades long issue! My hair gets so tangly in between washes and I was just misting and adding more gel to refresh and it ended up tangled even worse and also stringy. Starting with misting, a leave in, and then brush styling helped detangle and reclump just like wash day - thank you!!!!
I like to wet the Bounce Curl brush a bit & run it through damp detangled midlengths to ends. It adds enough extra water to clump them. I do this when brush styling too. It Does dilute product a bit, but my hair is fine & low density & it starts drying quickly.
My hair is very fine and sometimes I add to much gel. Next day is a stringy mesh so hopefully with these tips will help. With bounce my hair last one day very pretty next day is a mess, and have to retouch everyday. I stick with Ouidad!. Need to try out the recoil AG
Hello, I have 2C curls and some tighter curls around under my neck Briogeo has been the best product so far and with this brand I can get day 2 and then I have to redo my hair Not sure why refreshing gives me a hard time My hair looks like yours all the time
Thanks again, Gena!! This subject (refreshing) is my number one problem!! I have very blonde highlights which I'm not bleaching anymore!! I want 2024 hair to be my best hair year!! But refresh I struggle with 100% I'm going to try using just the gel to see what happens. I'll let you know if that works for me! Thanks so much for the refreshing videos!! I absolutely need these video's lol Keep them coming, please!! And smile more!!
I want to try some Bounce products but I have a Curlsmith Defining Creme and a BBumble Defining cream I'm using at the moment. Don't have the money to keep adding product to my arsenol. I'll find what works for me sooner or later. My big problem is that irritating part at the back of my crown. Even if I difuse upside down, it's there. I've taken to just using a little clip to hide it that part. Wish I could cover it without a clip. I do have the bounce styling brush.
Strange question. Gena, you were the first person I watched for curly hair. Your hair is gorgeous but I have to accept the fact I'm not as curly as you. The only way I can get my hair very curly is by brush rolling or finger rolling my entire head. So I would say it's a good 2c, for the most part. However, my hair is course, a bit longer than shoulder length and high porosity. Is there someone that you or anyone else knows that has hair similar to me. And I love Re-coil and just used the liquid effects tonight. I have learned so much from you but I just can't find anyone that has hair like mine.
Hi! Almost happy new year! I just washed my hair today, and I don’t like the results. I suspect I didn’t use enough product (used LUS + their gel) What’s the best course of action if you don’t like your results the same day? Would you start over with a wash? Or is that too much havoc on the hair, and I should just do some refresh techniques? What about rewetting completely (but not doing shampoo/conditioner) and adding more product?
Do you mean you got frizz? That gel is light hold and doesn’t tame frizz (for me). When this happens, I will refresh by dampening the hair and adding more gel. If I still don’t get more hold, I will refresh by adding a strong hold gel
Thank you! Yeah, my hair’s frizzier than normal, and I feel like the curls have no hold. (Super soft though!) I’d used their all-in-one + the sea moss gel. I did do an Olaplex treatment before shampooing. With LUS, I think I’m trying to make it work because the curly girls in their ads have such beautiful curls. And…need to realize I’m not going to get their hair! (I have low density, fine hair that’s in a bob…so I also just don’t get the bouncy movement since my hair is short) Thank you for answering!
I just had a lightbulb moment with my results today. Started over with washing - used the Briogeo curl charisma shampoo, mask, conditioner. Used CS Air dry cream and the Ouidad red gel you recommend. I GET IT now why you talk about fine hair needing strong hold. Really happy with my results! Thank you thank you!!!
15:25 same here. I can't trim my own hair as it's much different trimming straight hair and I'd be paying a stylist who knows to cut curly hair. I pay almost $160 per visit to get it trimmed😭😭
I will trim my own hair curl by curl. You are basically creating what we call ghost layers. You just want to trim a bit. Good scissors and open and close the scissors as you cut. I wish I could remember the hairdresser that shows you how to do it. I believe she is on Instagram, but I will try to find her for you. You just want to make sure both sides are even and your not cutting the length.
All these tips are great. Bounce Curl Clump and Define Cream is amazing 🩵 So is that brush 😊 I still need to try that gel, though 😊 I love that diffuser and I just got the travel version, too ❤️ Love the Bonding Oil as well 💜
It definitely can be naturally smaller curl clumps. Mine is like that in my top section. Brush styling with the wrong brush or the wrong sized clumps can also cause it to not group the way it wants to naturally.

Thanks Gina, these tips are great, I need ti try some of these since I get stringyness curls always on the back bottom of my hair
Uggg. Still struggling with refresh days. I think because I am dealing with damaged hair. I am gonna keep trying your tips.
Damage has a lot to do with it. As it gets healthier, refreshing will get easier
Thanks again, Gena!! This subject (refreshing) is my number one problem!! I have very blonde highlights which I'm not bleaching anymore!! I want 2024 hair to be my best hair year!! But refresh I struggle with 100%

Once you can grow out the highlights, refreshing will be so much easier! My hair got easier to refresh once I got rid of the black damage.

Gena we need video of best products for 2023🙏🏿🤍
Just filmed it today! Check back this Sunday 🙌🏼
@@GenaMarie Thanks gorgeous!
Your hair looks beautiful in this video! - from a long-time lurker :)
Thank you for the support!
Tried the Bounce Curl products on your recommendation. Love this stuff! Thanks Gena
So glad!
Thanks for another great video! Have you tried the Curl Keeper gel? If so, what did you think of it?
Yes, I like the Ultimate Hold gel in the green bottle. I do not like the purple Original Liquid Styler because it doesn't give me any hold
@@GenaMarie Thanks! I've been wanting to try it!
I was wondering why I couldn't put a lot of my hair in the diffuser...it's because your diffuser bowl is SO much bigger than mine!

One other thing, is a "cast" always hard/crunchy? Sometimes I combine defing cream and a gel together before applying to my hair.
A cast can be flexible or really hard, it just depends. It’s that crunchy feeling that you can break when it dries
All these tips are great. Bounce Curl Clump and Define Cream is amazing 🩵 So is that brush 😊 I still need to try that gel, though 😊 I love that diffuser and I just got the travel version, too ❤️ Love the Bonding Oil as well 💜
why do you think it is bad to wash hair more frequently? i have fine hair that needs that reviving that a fresh was h gives
Idk why but I always get a great hold with bounce curl's gel🤷🏽♀️
That's great! I think it's just my high porosity hair and humidity.
You got beautiful hair
Sometimes I wonder if my hair is stringy or if I just have small/narrow curls?
(Or maybe I’m not getting the curls into the right families…🧐)
It definitely can be naturally smaller curl clumps. Mine is like that in my top section. Brush styling with the wrong brush or the wrong sized clumps can also cause it to not group the way it wants to naturally.
