I've had to learn to embrace my frizz. There's no use in fighting it, especially this time of year. Summer means hair chaos. LOL!! You recommended Curlsmith Curl Defining Styling Soufflé and I LOVE it!! On day 4 my hair doesn't want to curl so I have to just wash it.
I usually just wet my curls every day in the shower and use a conditioner on the ends. Then style as usual. You taught me something new! I usually use an oil to get rid of frizz and refresh. Never thought to use a bit of gel. I'll give that a try! Thank you for all you do for the curl community!!!
This is all new to me😬 I am low porous, high density, coarse hair. I haven’t established my curl pattern because I’ve been getting keratin treatments for so long. In addition I also blow dry and flat iron. I’m done though. This past week I washed my hair and let it air dry. It’s just past chin length. The top layers are straight(ish) but underneath it’s wavy/curly. Where do I begin??? I don’t know what products to purchase. Also I have grey hair and get color. Is that an absolute nono??? Thank you 😊 Nancy♥️
Your videos are the most informative in terms of the science of the product, and always reminding me my hair is not your hair. I love that you keep the techniques realistic for anyone to be able to do and not spend all day doing your hair. I combine Ouidad curl primer with the same Ouidad gel you recommend and I can easily go 4-5 days without a full wash or even soaking.
On my wash day I use CS stronger gel(glaze) it will last 3 days. To refresh I use face humidifier and little bit of CS foam. I am in my 5th day and looks great. Thank you sharing your tips
Love your videos Gena. I’ve learnt so much from you and your tips have helped so much. Whilst things got easier and better over time my biggest lesson was learning to embrace the frizz and tangles and not need my hair to look smooth and perfect like when I was straightening it. I love my natural hair much more now ❤
Aal the tips are perfect. My biggest challenge is my itcy scalp which starts to botger me from day 3 and it wont rest. If something needs to be done on wash day please tell me about that or if anything else please help
I have short, fine, wavy 2a/2B hair, low porosity (so my hair hates any product with protein). Unless I completely drench and restyle my hair for a "refresh" I have frizz no matter what. How can I dry refresh without drenching? My hair is too short to put up at night and a bonnet or silk scarf makes my hair just as flat as just sleeping on a silk pillow case.
Hey gena, i dont shower in the morning to school cuz im running late most of the time and i have to brush my hair which makes it look very frizzy. Without using water or any product, is there a way i can refresh my hair? Please do answer i really dont like my frizzy hair :(
Love all of your videos and have learned so much from you. I just started wearing my hair curly a year ago and it has been quite the transition for me. I'm in my 50's and have always straightened my hair until a year ago. I still cannot make it more than 2 days without washing my hair. My scalp just feels itchy to me if I don't. It's probably just in my head but if I try and go an extra day without washing I'm constantly scratching my scalp. Any suggestions to get around this?
Hi Gena. Great info. Sometimes I dry refresh with the strenfthen & restore styling loción de Shea Moisture. The bottle says you can use this product on wet or dry hair. Do you know about other cream that can be used that way?
I use the Ouidad (got the small travel size to test it). I do like it. What I've been doing on a wash day where products are concerned is to do half and half of air dry cream and the gel. I mix it in my hands and then apply. So far it's okay for my curls (I know everyone's curls are different so I have to experiment). My curls are different all over my head. Any frizz that pops up is the back top of my head. But, in the long haul...I love not using a dryer! No heat...except maybe a few minutes of diffusing...which I don't even do if I don't have to be anyplace.
Can somebody pls help me? I have fine hair so I have to use sock curls to curl my hair bc it won’t curl with a curling iron. But to do sock curls every night, u need to wet ur hair. And I can’t wet my hair every day bc then it’s all dry and damaged. Pls give me some advice!
I like using foam for refreshing & sometimes oil just on the section of hair near my neck. Just a note: I changed my profile pic, (it was a white cat)if anyone is interested seeing my curly hair. It was finally one of the best washdays I had since I started caring for my natural hair, over 2 1/2 years ago. It's also my IG profile pic) I just wish I wrote what I did.😆)
My hair is not quite as curly as yours. Maybe a 2C with some 3a’s under neath. Fine hair with high porosity/bleach. I can’t even imagine not washing my hair daily. My hair looks like a frizzy disaster each morning. Any thoughts? 😢
We kinda have similar hair. I’m still trying out products that suits my hair. But I think having a good shampoo and conditioner will really help tame the frizz and make your curls look good. Also either a leave-in conditioner or curl cream (or both if your hair is really wet). I don’t have a gel currently, but looking into it, but I would also suggest that. Also, having either a sleeping bonnet or satin (or silk) pillowcase will help control the frizz, because it won’t suck the moisture out of your hair. It’s been a while since you commented. I hope you found out some solution to your problem. But I hope this helps. :)
The treluxe foam I have does NOT come out as a liquid. It comes out like a foam. I think maybe you got a bad nozzle/top. This is also my absolute favorite way to water refresh but I usually use a volumizing foam so it doesn't get that products feeling. My favorite is the curlsmith volume foam.
Hi Gena, I am brand new to curls! I was wondering how you sleep without crushing your curls? When I wake up, so much has gone flat and frizzy, that I have to totally wet or wash and restart! I bought the satin pillow case and satin hair bonnets, but doesn't make a difference for me. A second issue that I have not seen addressed is oily scalp. I hear how important it is not to wash your hair everyday, but after a day, my hair feels kinda gross at the scalp. I guess I have an oily scalp which isn't friendly to skipping wash days. Is there any suggestions to help get my hair healthier without all the washing, but maintaining nice curls without that gross tacky under feel?? I have tried dry shampoo and even baby powder, which only makes the heavy thick root grossness worse. Help and thanks!
Hi! another question: re: Curlsmith Scalp Stimulating Booster, do you use this every day? Looking online at reviews, I see some mixed reviews about it leaving hair greasy. I was wondering if that was your experience? I only wash my hair 1-2 times per week, so I am curious to know before I purchase. Thanks
I’m just starting my curly hair journey, I have trouble with flat hair on top. It just won’t curl at the roots, I used a root lifting foam and it helped , don’t know if it’s bad for hair or not, I love Ouidad gel!
@@Veve1014 I have tried that and my hair doesn’t respond well to finger curling, maybe I’m just not doing it right or trying to get the curl to go in the wrong direction, I’m a work in progress for sure😊
Great video! My hair is high density, so there's no point for me in doing a refresh with water, as it literally takes the same amount of time as just washing. I normally just add a fragranced hair oil or serum on day 3 to help with any bad smells. That and wearing Bizzy B headbands or topknot with Curlfriend Collective scrunchies.
would sleeping with a bonnet help my hair if it is wavy (2b) at the top and middle and curly (3a) on the bottom? my curls aren't as tight as yours, and a scrunchie always falls down or ruins my hair anyway, and any curl i have falls almost flat the next day, but my hair is curly
I just bought a bonnet on Amazon and I'm returning it. Not comfortable. How is the one you're wearing here? I may order it. I always refresh with water. Yikes. Going to finish watching the video
I feel like I have a lot of hair fall out when I refresh or in-between washes when my hair is super curly and gets tangled..anyways to prevent that? What am I doing wrong or is that normal with curl hair.
Yes, its pretty common because with curly hair, the hairs get trapped and don't just fall to the ground easily like with straight hair. So when you go to refresh or detangle to wash, you see all those shed hairs from the day and they accumulate
Hi just watched some of your detangling/refreshing hair videos. Apologies if this information is somewhere else; question: I am curious on wash day, do you detangle your hair just before washing (hair is dry) or do you detangle your hair as you are washing/conditioning? I have gotten into the habit lately of detangling dry hair with my fingers before I begin washing and now I'm thinking I'm probably damaging my hair.
I detangle with oil on dry hair before I wash my hair. And then usually have to do some detangling again with conditioner after washing. Detangling on dry hair as long as you have oil is less damaging in my experience because our hair is weakest when it’s wet.
@@michellemcgilton8364 Any penetrating/moisturising oil that suits your hair like coconut, avocado, olive oil. You can look up penetrating/moisturising oil vs sealing oil for more info, Gena and ManesByMell both have videos on this.
