I have fine hair but lots of it and find the least amount of products i put on my hair, the better. I am unable to diffuse due to my disability and not having enough time for my caregiver to do it for me. The only thing i've found that works for me on the 2nd day is just having them scrunch water into the hair and re-twist some of the curls. If they scrunch product in, it becomes almost matted and doesn't feel good. I do have a LOT of frustrations that i have no control over my own hair and with it being curly, even more frustrating 🤣I'm trying to love my hair but most days i just don't! Thank you for your videos 😍☺
Same exact issues with refreshes for very fine curly hair! & I hear ya on the matted feeling when more prods are applied. 🤷♀️ I’ve tried everything & am thinking decent 2nd day hair for fine curlies is a myth. The sleep bonnet is a great idea, altho it’ll prob make me overheat all summer, so I can envision it being thrown across the room by 1am. 😝
@@wendylpaHaha that poor bonnet 😂 If i have a good hair day after my morning shower and when it's fully dried with the crunch scrunched out - like today, it's soft with a mixture of ringlets and waves - i'll put it in a loose pony like a pineapple overnight and then the next day, get my caregiver to scrunch in water - not spray on with the bottle as i can't control it that way - and it'll be good but a 3rd day, nah it'll not look or feel good, very frustrating right!? Good luck to you 😊😁
@@TashyTillyYes to all that! Most curlies don't know what high maintenance/unpredictable hair is until they see what the fine curlies deal with. I used to think it was a product issue, but in reality "It's me...hi...I'm the problem it's me". 😁Good luck to you as well!
I just discovered my curly hair 1 month ago. All my life (68 years) I have been blow drying my hair straight. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, I can last a week or more with my curls before I wash, refresh is a simple water spray and scrunch and I’m good to go! I haven’t been through a summer here in Florida yet, so that will probably be a bump in the road of my curly hair journey!
My biggest issue with refreshing is my hair feeling to dry and how to bring moisture to it without weighing it down. I’ve been trying to use more moisturizing leave ins but need to be careful it’s not too heavy. Sure is a delicate balance!!
I’m still at the beginning of my curly girl journey, but I kinda miss the days I didn’t know I was a curly girl. I was content with just brushing my hair everyday, even if it was a frizzy wavy limp mess. Now it’s soooooo much work ;___;
I want to thank you so much for all your videos. Thanks to you I found two gels that work finally well on my curls ( Curlsmith) . Not only that, but I finally can refresh my curls and see a nice result, rather than wetting them all and apply products that were making my head a sticky mess. This method works for me, and thanks to the gels you recommended, today my hairdresser made a comment on how my curls look beautiful, springy and full....all thanks to you! Keep up the fabulous work. Thank you so so much.
You totally read my mind. I was literally just watching one of your videos like an hour ago and thought wow I wish you would do an updated refresh video.
My number one hair goal was to retain length, and I found that QUITTING REFRESHING helped with that immensely. Among other things. Since hair is most fragile when wet, I focused on minimizing damage on wet hair. And I just don’t want to spend time refreshing. Aand I live by “the hair washing process is inherently damaging.” AND most styling techniques are damaging. We need to keep in mind that most mechanical things we do to our hair are damaging it, even if we can’t see it at first. You see it when it breaks. Just fyi I have low density, wavy curly frizz prone hair. My hair texture is such that for a lot of my follicles, the first few inches of new hairs are wiry and then grow “normally”. So that texture in itself makes my hair extra prone to breakage EVEN THOUGH I never heat style, dye, go out into the sun. Hence why I decided to sacrifice definition/shine/hold for length retention. It has been worth it for me but I know it’s not for everyone. I just do my styling product after washing, which is once every three days. However my hair looks in between washes is none of my business 😅 I’m happy with it. I’m okay with my hair being not totally defined. I love how it looks now that I’ve retained length ☺️ I just put it up with a claw clip if it looks too wonky. P.S. for anyone who wants to retain hair length/reduce breakage, I also recommend getting rid of combs and brushes and using just your fingers. I don’t even detangle with my fingers, I use conditioners with very good slip and let the conditioner do it for me. Well, it does help that I have low density hair for that. I didn’t mean to write a whole essay but this will help someone out there
Even though my hair is a wave pattern and not a curl, I have learned so much from your channel because I also have fine hair. Your focus on lightweight products has been tremendously helpful for me, and I like that recoil cream, too!
I love your tip at the end of how to get root lift. My crown always gets so flat on day 2 and 3. I always tried to fluff the roots but it never really worked. It makes sense about having to add water and diffuse a bit. Thank you so much, love your videos! Would love if you can do a tutorial for beginners on make up especially eye shadow and blush/bronzer. I saw one of your a long time ago but would love another update 😊
Im so happy I found your channel. It’s so hard to find fine curly hair information and I went most of my life hating my curly hair because I treated it like it was straight. Thank you for your help, it’s helped me to fall in love with my curls and be more confident 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you for the tips. Although my next day hair from bonnet and sleeping, my curls are FLAT. The spirals are gone. It's like putting my hair in a book every night and they are absolutely crushed in the morning. I will give this a try but not sure if they'll come back to life without totally resetting my hair.
Hi. My hair is 3c/4a, high porosity, fine and low density; about the same length as yours. I deep condition while in the shower, leaving it on for the rec time, under a shower cap, and rinse/ detangle/ distribute the cond throughout using a wide tooth comb. For styling I use a leave-in, styling gel and have recently added a touch of VERB foaming gel at the top of my head to increase lift/ volume. I use a heat protectant and diffuser. I learned (thanks to your tutelage) that when I let my hair air dry only, it soaked up all the humidity in the air and i wore it like a halo 😇 of frizzies. When I use a styling brush, the curls separate even more and I spritz w water and apply more styling gel. Praying hands, finger-combing and using a wide-tooth comb work best for me to detangle and apply products. Issue: my hair is reddish blonde. My curls are see through and do not clump. I wash my hair at night , diffuse and air dry. I sleep in a mulberry bonnet and p/case (for many years😊). I stopped using those loopy microfiber towels long ago because my hair snagged in the fibers, and use Evolve's big jersey- tee material towel -and- i recently added your recommended Hair Repear *yes, indeedy, love it!* towel. What can I do, or not do differently? How can i improve, to get the lovely clumps? I use your vids as a step-by-step while styling or refreshing to try to figure out what I'm missing.😊 Help.?. And thank you ~ happy ☘️ 🍀 ☘️ day, everyone!
Thank you! Some people just naturally have smaller or "skinnier" curl clumps and that's ok! Here are some tips (if you haven't seen these posts) ruclips.net/video/c6OgRUc04EA/видео.html&pp=gAQBiAQB ruclips.net/video/MHs9J_y8fck/видео.html&pp=gAQBiAQB instagram.com/p/C4QwnpsOrbL/
I have a short bob. Do you feel that refreshing short hair would be any different than what you would do with longer hair? Also, thanks for all your videos! They've been so incredibly helpful for me.
Thank you for this video! I literally have been thinking about this topic as I have these very issues! Do you have a list of products that DON'T work well for prolonging wash days?
I refreshed with the new Garner Fructis hair filler+hyaluronic moisture repair gel-cream. I like this system and it smells good too. This gel cream is lightweight and does not contain sulfates, silicones, parabens,&phthalates.Gena can you do a video on the new Garner Fructis hair filler system? I ran out and got the preshampoo, shampoo, conditioner, moisture repair gel cream and the serum.I am enjoying these products and they smell really good and does not weigh your hair down.I recommend you trying this system out. Thanks for all your videos I am learning about how to take care of my wavy, curly hair.
It’s tough! Protect your hair from friction as much as please. Sleep with a silk bonnet, drape a silk scarf over your headrest or couch, and be mindful of your winter coats and scarves rubbing. Adding a little hair oil to the lower layer helps to soften and protect
I just started watching your videos about a month ago. I’ve been playing around with my curls. I used to only have them when my hair was wet, then I brushed them away and wondered why my hair was so frizzy. Nope! I have naturally curly hair!! Get this: I saw my sister this weekend. My sister. She’s known me my whole life and we see each other a lot. She asked me if I got A PERM!!! Apparently she didn’t know I had curly hair either!!! Haha. Did I get a perm. Hilarious. And very cool. Thanks for that! That’s all you, Gena! 😄
Hi Gena, hoping you could help with this one: I’m a chemist and because of what I work with, I feel better and cleaner showering and wetting my hair every day after work. I don’t wash everyday and when I wash I mostly just wash my scalp. I do use conditioner every day though because if I wet it without, it hates it. I’m new on my curly girl journey but I don’t see myself changing how often I wet my hair due to my job - speaking of, my hair is up in a pony tail a lot but I still want curls. I don’t style every day, maybe once or twice a week with gel and cream. Other days I just throw it up in a bun or braids. Am I ruining my curls? Is this sustainable? And do you have any advice on getting the best possible curls on days I DO style, with my lifestyle?
Totally understandable. Are you able to protect your hair somehow at work? I'm not sure what your environment is like and if that would be appropriate, but some sort of covering like a silk scarf tied in a "hairstyle" or a cap would be the best way to protect your hair so that you dont have to wash daily. Unfortuantely wetting your hair daily and wearing it up daily can lead to a weaker hair structure over time and over-conditioned hair. This will mean your hair could not be at its full potential and could appear looser and not bounce back as much it would naturally. However if you're happy with how your hair looks and feels, then you're good! You may also want to try applying a pre-shampoo oil before you wash to protect your hair. Make sure you're still using a lathering shampoo at least once a week so your hair isn't over-conditioned and your scalp gets cleaned.
Gena , what is your opinion of refreshing sprays ? I keep buying different ones thinking that I’m just going to be able to spray them on and my hair will bounce back and look great. Haven’t found one yet that does that !!!
Not sure if you saw my last video about "products that didnt work for me" but I don't personally like refreshing sprays. I don't find them necessary and I just use the same stylers from wash day. My hair gets to sticky and producty feeling, and they dont always mesh well with the stylers already in your hair from wash day.
Hi Gena. I was wondering if refreshing too much after day 2 can cause hygral fatigue even if using a minimal amount of water on the days before your next wash day.
It’s better not refresh every day, but if you must, the key is to just not use too much water. Getting your hair slightly damp is fine where it dries fast, but it shouldn’t be drenched or wet all the way down to the scalp.
I will get curlsmith slave rehab treatment. Can i buy multitasker strength ask also with it? Or inahsi reperative mask is better? ... And i want to buy inahsi bond mask it's okay or will be too much with slave rehab
I have the exact same hair type as you, they are so coarse though. They are legit allergic to refreshing they dont curl as much and look loosely wavy along with an unbelievable amount of frizz and they get so dry how would i fix that when refreshing
My hair being thick and coarse, my refresh is getting in the shower and getting entire head wet which my hair seems to prefer. I have tried just misting, but it does nothing because my hair is so stubborn. I wish i could just mist it each day but my hair gets so dry that a full rinse, not wash, is the key for me. Only thing that works.

I wish I could refresh but while my hair is fine, it's dense and I pretty much have to wash every 3rd day.
That's ok!
My hair feels real dry and then I know I need to at least co-wash and condition
You can add some leave in or curl cream, and a little bit of water without completely soaking your hair down and using a co wash
I use a face humidifier on my fine curls and a little of CS foam. Usually on my 3rd day
