    Rohrleitung Gate is a puzzle-oriented ROM hack of Super Mario Bros. that was inspired by the time travel anime Steins;Gate. It was developed by the same person that created Celeste Mario's Zap & Dash! ( tasvideos.org/5575M ) and features a great level of technical prowess. A number of features were added that weren't in the original Super Mario Bros. such as two-way screen scrolling, the ability for Koopa shells to break bricks, and background parallax scrolling. It also has a number of bugfixes applied to the original engine to prevent cheating, making it incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to execute wall jumps and wall clips.
    chatterbox ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/c... ) nonetheless isn't deterred and sneaks in a few wall jumps to beat the game and get the normal ending as fast as possible. There is a "best ending", but it cannot be achieved without editing the game or using Game Genie cheat codes. For more information on this and the details of the run, you can read the author's notes ( tasvideos.org/8709S ).

    Sponge would be the star of this rom hack, as the plot and story of this game, is that you can't escape fate, no matter how grim the circumstances are. Peach is destined to die, and you are always too late and see it happen.

      @jerrymcgrillen1301 it is most definitely a romhack of smb1, its using the mario physics engine, enemies and tile system (with interchanging tiles to achieve the parallax scrolling). its a very inpressive romhack for sure, but claiming it was made from the ground up is not true

      I think the fact it's ostensibly in the SMB engine is the more impressive thing.

    • @rockymitsu
      @rockymitsu 7 месяцев назад +3

      I had the luxury of reviewing the romhack graphics in "tile layer pro", the parallax operation is 8 panels that repeat, making it look very fluid (Sorry if my English is a bit bad)

    • @retneychozken
      @retneychozken 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@rockymitsu nah you explained it good, but to make it clear, the parallax is done by modifying the tile on the fly with another one that is in a different position.
      Now im wondering if i did explain it well too.

    Seeing actual parallax in an NES game (and not line scrolling parallax many games used) is so mind blowing. The only other game I know did that sort of thing was Battletoads.
    [EDIT] Also City Connection, but it took some more sacrifices to pull it off...

      Also, snares in Lagrange Point weren't actually being played by the DPCM channel at all, excluding the battle theme. They were just two square channels rapidly changing duty cycles
      [EDIT] I still stand by not hearing base patches, but that's just that, BASE patches. It could be possible it's using a different set of patches, or if the Master System's YM2413 had its capability shared with it, the ability to use a custom patch for one of the sound channels

    A Super Mario Bros. hack where the screen ACTUALLY scrolls to the left?

    • @rickpgriffin
      @rickpgriffin 7 месяцев назад +3

      I can see every level is two screens wide, so the entire area is loaded into memory at once, which should be simple since the memory buffer can store two screens of data. That would allow for left-scrolling as well as all enemy states being remembered off screen, though I don't know if there's some additional wizardry required to pull it off.

    • @FrostMonolith

      I assume is to despawn any hitblocks that disallow walljumping

    • @DJIncendration
      @DJIncendration 7 месяцев назад +7

      The death there is actually because if you were to play through the level without dying and complete it as fast as possible, the game would think you cheated. This happens if you complete the level within 200 seconds. However, the game saves your progress at certain points, and will set the timer based on that progress. In short, the intentional death is to restart the level at a timer value that prevents the cheated ending.

    • @letcreate123
      @letcreate123 7 месяцев назад +6

      @@DJIncendrationI ended up reading the author notes and that seems to be the case. Why the creator put an anti-cheat *in a single-player ROMhack* is beyond me.

    Honestly I would play this but I'm not a fan of hacks that require you to use frame perfect glitches, like the wall jump.
    This could have been a fantastic hack if it wasnt for these. How unfortunate

    • @letcreate123
      @letcreate123 7 месяцев назад

      Pretty sure it doesn't require you to use the wall jump at all. In fact the hack creator *discourages* its use by patching most methods of it.
      This hack is still bootycheeks to play casually without savestates though
