Not just Shy Guys and Bob-Ombs stuck around, so did Pokeys and Snifits (and Ninjis though I haven't seen them anywhere other than Paper Mario and Bowser's castle in Super Mario World). Glad the Shy Guys did since they're one of my favorites!

Heh did you know that in Japan this game was originally called ume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and they just swapped names and sprites out with Super Mario Bros when they released it in America? The real Super Mario Bros 2 is only part of the Lost Levels in America

And this Super Mario Bros 2 also introduced several characters into Mario's world that stuck around such as Shy Guys, Bob-Ombs, Pokeys and Snifits
just before activating the ladder spawn in the area before, he went so far to the block beside that the game thinks he activated the spawm point from a diferent block, so he spawn in the right of the ladder, if this makes any sense lol also in 9:15
Like this 0:19? It’s to grab items twice. If you press B on the right frame as you exit the door, you are able to grab an item but the game thinks you don’t have one. Since the game doesn’t think you have one, you can enter a door, or pick up a second item hence what is done in 0:19.

So they instead released a re-done version of Doki Doki Panic, but Mario Bros Style. They changed stuff in the game such as title, bonus screen to give off a Mario vibe.
