This is the second and last true Mario game for the original Game Boy. It has unique power ups like carrots and bubbles and allows the player to go through each of the worlds in any order. It also features the first appearance of Wario, who would become a staple character for Nintendo. This is a 1 minute and 5 second improvement over the previous movie (tasvideos.org/1564M.html) thanks to newly discovered glitches which can be found in the author's comments (tasvideos.org/6479S.html).

I always thought this game was actually better than Super Mario World as a kid. Its much shorter, but each level and world was way more unique. Playing this game for the first time was such a delightful surprise as a kid.
When a kid I play SMB 1~3 and later when my brother buy a SNES I was hype for how the new SMW should be much... more... better but it was a horrible disappointment looking the low quality of the graphics and the lack of creativity.

@@EliosMoonElios I feel you there. I enjoyed SMW and was super excited about the graphics and the Yoshi character before playing. But it really didn't push the new hardware very far (art-direction in particular was pretty bland compared to other 16-bit graphics already present on the market) or do anything very creative compared to any of the previous Mario platformers. I still think its' a good game but when people talk about it being among the best, I tend to disagree.
@@CarinoGamingStudio Super Mario Land 2? I think I found that to be the case as a kid but now that I'm older and have played them several more times I'd say it wasn't very long for a Mario game. Certainly not compared to SMB3 or SMW. I still love it though, it never needed to be a long game anyway.
Watching this makes me wish Nintendo would remake this game the same way with Link's Awakening

If you're gonna glitch, you can wrong warp to the end from Pumpkin 1. This seems to be a TAS to beat every level as if doing RTA though

7:55 wow. I know it’s a TAS, but I experienced so much frustration with this battle as a kid. My great victory reduced to a few seconds haha! Those pigs didn’t even bounce once!

I have never once seen a TAS for this game, and out of sheer curiosity, I decided to see how one would look following the NSO announcement a few days ago.
I was not disappointed… This run is phenomenal. I had no idea you could bug out the game so often with pipes.

You would think that graphics was not a big priority from nintendo and that only gameplay did matter, ,,, but man what was i wrong, as this game really pushes the old gameboy to it’s graphical limits,wow, this game looks almost like supermarioworld.
I used to watch my older sister play this a lot growing up :)
So basically, the end warp was done by making the game slowdown as much as Double Dragon arcade?

I propose renaming this category to be "All Coins". Otherwise it's quite confusing compared to the shorter, existing any% category. Either that, or add some of the constraints ("No Major Skips" or "No Memory Corruption") to the category name. This category can be obsoleted if someone does an "All Levels" run, barring audience reception.
This looks similar to that category "playaround."
How about “all bosses”?

I've just realized that the songs of the various levels are the same of the first. XD
Isn’t there a method to beat the game in only a couple of minutes by falling into a specific part of memory and triggering the tile to trigger the end credits in pumpkin zone 1
yeah, but this is a separate category, non arbitrary code execution to be exact
And so, Mario gets to the throne room using a... "bubble", made up of pieces of the castle and Wario's body parts. Upon getting a shoe thrown at him, Mario can't live with the shame and jumps off the castle. But it only took 20 minutes so it was ok. The end.

my only question would be, what's the idea behind walking to levels and not entering them? is it setting a reference flag so these levels will be affected by actions in other levels?
On completing a level, the game automatically walks you to the next stage.

In Space Zone 1 there's a pig spawned to the right, Mario moves just enough that the right pig is off-screen while still shooting, but the projectiles do not appear on-screen. When Mario finally moves right to reveal the pig, all of the projectiles appear on-screen at once, creating a lot of lag. Combined with fireballs, Mario is zipped vertically to the "memory" and near a level clear tile.

Nice but I do not see the purpose of the whole thing. If you are going to use the glitch why bother and not end immediately?

Depends, if it's a skill or reflex based game then not really. But this is tool assisted, which is a different kind of fun, sort of a strategy/craftsmanship thing.
@@handsomebrick ok. I not really seen how they set up a tool assisted game. imassumed it was a cheat like making macros that do stuff you cant possibly do manually. Any good youtube videos that show how tool assist is set up?
Late reply, but a TAS is usually set up with a program that you can assign individual keypresses to each frame of gameplay.
Tool assisted speedruns are different, they are usually made to find the most gamebreaking bugs and such things to beat the game as fast as possible. For some people it is fun having a contest between other tassers or actually working on a task together with multiple persons. Tas runs usually help regular speed runners too as alot of the fastest pathings n mechanics are found by tas runners. Its kind of like they are working together, the tas runners usually provide the stats (if humanly executable) and the speed runners usually cause the game to get noticed by a bigger audience.
I dont think that speedruns in general are about skipping the fun at all. Actually competing with people all arround the world for the world record time is the most fun I've had with old video games like these.
Might just be my tendency towards loving a good and fair competition.
