How energy efficient are they? Assuming the home itself is well insulated.

@@ANieves3873 just depends. 99.9% of the time you wont have to change anything. Just add a breaker and run the wire

My old central air conditioner broke down right when covid hit and it was the best gift that ever happened. I ended up getting ny entire house with Mitsubishi split units with hyper heat and AC. Ordered right before supply shortages. Best thing I've ever done in my life. Got 6 splits. Every room is now the exact temperature I want it and humidity in the summer is always perfect. Below 74 degrees feels ice cold because the house is never humid.
Very smart, no vacuum needed in that everything even the lines are pre vacuumed. All seals thoroughly when you put lines together so the vacuum is not lost, very smart. Again no vacuum needed, all is vacummed already for the ones complaining about vacuuming the lines. Mr. Cool is an excellent product in that they thought of everything.
I'm literally hours away from buying one of these, so this is good timing!
Congratulations - you are one of the few who understand the inside unit cover opens up to almost 90 degrees and holds itself open. I've seen so many get all nervous and try to work under it while it's barely open.
I have had the 36k unit for three years in our very open concept house and it heats/cools the entire 1,800sq ft very well. Super easy install. My father-in-law who is a contractor was skeptical and thought I should pay someone to install a mini-split but after I did this he realized just how easy it was. I did everything myself except mount the indoor unit. He helped with that. Otherwise it's an easy one person job. Saves big on the electric bill in the winter vs the baseboard we had before.
How many air handlers? We have a 1300 square foot house in MA and are loking to do this. I like the idea of being able to set different temps in different rooms but unsure if it makes sense to put an air handler in each.
With ducts or no ducts?
I'm currently baseboard with outdoor woodstove and propane boiler heating the home through radiators and a heat exchange unit. Was eyeing the 36k unit. It's about 1800sq ft. The boiler and woodstove are both like 30+ years old. Would you recommend this?
Oh MrCool we meet again. I wonder how many comments will say this time you have to vacuum the line and charge it like last time. These units are awesome come pre-charged and ready to go.
No kidding! I tried to make a point of saying it about the lines, but it is inevitable that someone will say I skipped the vacuum,
The line still has to be vacuumed before releasing precharged refrigerant.
@@MrRightNow Nope. Those lines are filled with refrigerant gas also.
@@MrRightNow you absolutely should pull a vacuum on the lines if they aren’t precharged.
@@MrRightNow No it does not. The lines come charged with freon. When you screw them in a valve opens in the end of the lines to connect them the also pre charged condenser. They are both pre charged.

My trane unit went out 3 years ago, installed it in 1997 that gem lasted 20 plus year @ $2400.00 compressor went out cost! A new Trane $5,000.00

See how smart they are! I wish I could take the credit for them but there units are hands down the best value around. The other 3 I installed are all still working perfectly. The only guys who hate them seem to be hvac guys.

If I am installing this on the second floor of my detached garage , is there an issue if the lines run to the outside but go through the open attic first. Would I need a condensation extension line or do these systems come with a long enough line ?

Beautiful install. One tip on the cover- prime it with a primer such Kilz, and the final coat of paint will stick like glue. Also at the top where the lines exit the house, add some cauling (not silicone) to seal it thoroughly. Thanks for the overview. A job well done
I have the 24k unit and I love it. I think central AC will be a thing of the past.
Nice installation and video; I've been researching my own installation this year, probably using a multiposition air handler. I'm a professional HVAC engineer myself, and this is as clean an installation as I'd expect from one of my professional HVAC contractors. Maybe you did this after filming, but I'd recommend bolting the condenser to the base and covering the last remaining feet of the precharged lines. I don't believe those white lines are UV stable and I'd expect the exposed areas to degrade in a few years exposed to the sun. The lazy fix is to coat them with exterior latex house paint, but there are sleeves that are designed to cover refrigerant lines, something like the one you have on the wall, only a flexible sleeve.
How many of these mini split will we need for whole house tho? He used 1 unit in this video, 18000BTU, that would carry the all house I assume.
@@dannawang that would fo a very small house exactly what tonnage you would use fepends on many factors but id say 2 tonas is like a 900 sq ft house very rough guess
If for a diy’er just wants to do it for fun, this is a good system for that.
Price wise, Mr cool is sky high for what is provided.
Mirage (of USA) brand is readily available nationwide now, and has discontinued this nearly identical genre of equipment (Ventus) as the one in this Mr cool install, for a higher seer and better air handler new genre (called Ventus X). I can install two equivalent units for the price of one of the Mr cools and still have change left.
Warehouses in LA, San Diego, Phoenix, Dallas and Florida soon. I’ve worked with them over 5yrs now, installed 125+ plus units of theirs, and all the pro hvacr guys are now discovering the real value, no hype.
Another great video as always! For two years now I've thought about getting one of these for my upstairs bedroom, but didn't know if it was worth it. We don't really use the room often.
It’s one of those, wish you had it when you need it situations. If you have a guest, you’ll be glad you installed it.

2 things on this install, having done a few of these:
1) You need to check for leaks at both connection points i.e. at the condenser and where you joined the lines on the outside of the 2nd story (you may have done this off camera)
2) You need to coil the excess lineset horizontally as detailed by MrCool to avoid oil gathering in the linesets.
1- absolutely flare fittings are notorious for leaks.
2- only on a mr. Cool where the lines are precharged, otherwise cut off the excess and re-flare.
@@Ephesians-yn8ux most all the systems are pre charged. Samsung , daikin , Fujitsu , Mitsubishi etc you only keep any extra length on your line set if you haven’t reached the minimum length required usually 10-15 feet depending on model.
mr cool easy connect pipes are only ones does not need to vacuum or flare , unless your a pro to shorten the pipes and solder the easy adapters back for new adjusted size...i wouldn't recommend it if you don't know what your doing in first place...its why it cost much more than classic version that requires proper flaring and proper vacuum who are not afraid doing it if they spending thousand less, but it would make more sense just solder pipes together like what hvac guys does in central units outside and inside , they use copper couplings ...not sure why we are not allow to do it from condenser side when flare pipes always gonna leak, no matter how perfect you get it flared since it wear and tear through out a short time period in year or 2 that they use same way for walk in freezer storage units and coolers in gas stations always breaks down all the time in refrigerant leaks due to inside unit pressures gets high when something gets clog in pipes from outside with moister that can cause damage to evaporator...believe me, pin hole pipe burst is pain of b....to fix it
Does the line need to be a straight shot. If I got one I'd need to hide behind my house I'd just have to find a way to run the pipe

I love mini-splits. I installed one in my old home in Florida and have 3 in another home in the Caribbean. Very efficient and dependable. I did not see where Mr Cool was an Inverter. I assume it is as most are. Also, very interesting they system does not need to be vacuumed.

I have done 5 of these systems now and they have been flawless. As I write this I am using the one from this video to provide heating for a cool day. No regrets at all!

Great video. Question on these - would it lose any efficiency or create any issues to run those refrigerant lines through an uninsulated garage or attic prior to punching through the exterior wall?
Excellent content as usual SC! Great installation, with the exception of the coil behind the compressor / condenser. I paid to have a HVAC contractor make the connection, makes for a much cleaner installation. JMHO
If you're going to cut the lines/re-flare (or pay someone to do it), you might as well buy a cheaper Pioneer/Senville or any of the other rebadges of Midea that are identical to MrCool. You're paying a premium for those Mr Cool special lines that are DIY without a vac pump.
Nla setup like this wouldnt be legal. Even if performed by a certified hvac installer. The refrigerent lines need to be vacuumed before allowing refrigerent to flow in. Installation looked very clean tho. But allowing non condensable gasses into the pipes can affect performance and longevitt. Although youd probably not notice.
The lines are precharged. No need for vacuum
Good video and yes doable. My work all totaled probably took 12 hours total time it just took me a couple of weeks to nail it all down with all the distractions.

Main thing with mini splits is to clean condenser(outside unit fins) often. Hose it off every couple months. The fins are much thicker and a smaller footprint so a little dirt degrades the performance/longevity significantly.

still base on coil cooling is so outdated tech that we need something that doesn't depend on coils to cool our homes...new way is needed for 21st century...all this stuf still base on oil based 20th century stuff that still have same problems as first of its kind...coil gets dirty always and no matter how many times we clean it ...we are also damaging it by water that cause rust

We used one of these for work, for a short run and cut and shortened the line set and reattached and verified with adding refrigerant. I just don't like the long excess coil spooled up. But I guess for homeowner it's fine DIY.

I have seen your mini split installations. Very detailed and helpful for diy ers. Only thing is please purge the lines with refrigerant. Vaccum is not really necessary but purging the lines will save you lots of mechanical problems down the line.
1. First open the schradder valve at the bottom of the Bigger sized line. That is the suction line.
2. Secondly now open the smaller valve ( discharge line) upto 25% and at the same time depress the schradder valve
just like you would bleed the air our of your car tyre. Do it for 1-2 seconds for small length hoses, and 3-4 seconds for longer ones.
once you see some oil splatter / refrigerant immediately close the schradder valve.
3. Now fully open the smaller valve followed by the bigger valve.
4. This method will possibly take 90% of any air or moisture present in the lines. As per manufacturers compressors dont like moisture or atmospheric air in the lines.

This video was right on time. I've got a company coming in to give me a quote this week, so now I can determine if I want to DIY or not.
Quotes now a days are insane. Even with a little frustration it’s tough to beat what these cost.
Home Depot sub contractor told me smallest mini split would be $5k! I did a Mr Cool for $1500 from Costco.

@@YukonHawk1 I did the electric too. The install of the unit is as simple as the video. If you don’t feel comfortable doing the electric, leave it to a pro. Just a guess.. and based on how far the AC will be from your panel, I’d say $500-$600 extra.

Thank you. Yes though I didn't mention it. this system also provides heat as well if desired. For me I will only use it for AC but either way it can remain outdoors season after season.

Here's an idea for a video: I'd like to see a way to circulate cool air from a basement through the rest of the house, or at least up to the top floor. This could help cool your house while reducing reliance on ac system.

That shouldn't be too difficult. They make in-line vent fans for $40 or so. It can be installed by the top floor vent, thereby pulling air in from the system or installed in the basement and circulate air up. Some of them are variable speed fans so you can regulate the air flow.

I saw you coiled the extra line set upright behind the unit, never coil the line set like that always make sure it’s horizontal. The reason being is so that the compressor oil doesn’t get trapped and burn up your compressor. I really enjoy your videos. Keep up the god work!
I've seen many installations with the line set coiled and unit worked for years and no burnt compressor

@@gregrichard9192 its called "slugging the compressor". Look it up
The 2 reason he rolled up the lines, is because 1) the Mister Cool system comes with pre-charged lines. So cutting into the lines would come with a whole lot of problems later in the future. 2) He is not a licensed HVAC technician. Professionals would insure the length of the lines would be to required length. The extra would be cut and the lines would be properly flared or made with the use of approved connectors.
This may sound like a slam on the guy but, career HVAC worker should be aware these systems are not designed for us. They are designed to be plug and play, EZ PZ install.
Still advise you to lower the outside hole to insure the drain line gravity drains and does not drain flat. May lead to water draining inside the room. Definitely don't want that.

The air diverter is electric in the up and down positions but there is a manual side to side adjustment if you wanted to direct air more toward the center of the room.

wonderful. i got a 24k window shaker that i will cut a hole in the side of the brick house and hope for the best as the duct work for the "heat pump" (energy gulper with broken duct work in the 18" crawl space) just does a fine fine job of heating/cooling the crawl space and outside wasting $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

awesome video! Question, for the electrical, what double pole amps circuit did they recommend, or you electrician installed for the unit? Looking to get a 4 zone, or maybe a 3 zone, then another independent one once the other room is ready, so trying to plan out a subpanel amps
Thanks for the video, I am interested in that MR Cool unit for our new 500 sq ft ADU... but our contractor has already installed the lines before he bailed on us...I have had a few AC guys look at it and they would use the current lines and then install their unit but the cost is HUGE for them to finish the job..doing it ourselves makes so much sense...do you have any thoughts or questions that I should think of before I purchase the unit...thanks so much! PS we are in the taping and texturing drywall at this time...
Did you have to put any freeon in the low side of the unit for cooling? If so, how do you know the quantity of freeon and the psi and what kind or number freeon did you have to use?

N.E.C. article 440.14 states disconnect must be in sight and readily accessible so if your panel meets those requirements it’s acceptable
Will it cool a small home even if it's just 1 head unit say in the Living room but you have a kitchen with a small opening behind the Livingroom? Or do you need multi zone?
Any thoughts on the base that the outside AC unit sits on? Ive seen other DIYs lay a small concrete pad. Thanks!
If the unit is a heat pump as well it needs to be elevated for defrost cycle in the winter.
How long are those refrigerant lines? And can you order them in different lengths?

Can one outside unit power more than one inside unit? I really dread the window air conditioners we have to use everywhere but this is also a substantial expense and it seems likely one outside unit would be needed for each room.
