Starlink will replace all these fibre services that play jokes. Speed is not a factor, see my points below. For home use in 2024, streaming videos, fibre is the best and bundles are surely not an option.
1) Starlink is available to all. Fiber is not, you need to check availability of your area.
2) Availability in your area, for these companies usually means you live in an apartment complex. If your house is beside a complex or even beside the road where the Fibre cable runs through. The companies will not bother on providing you service. Or you will be quoted a ridiculous amount, like your bringing power to a remote village.
3) If lucky and fiber is available to you at your house in a house then it tends to be only one provider available. So you are at their mercy. I have seen price hikes while reducing your speed. It’s a you take it or leave it mentality. Then when there is a Fibre cut or service issue, another nightmare. They have your money, your not going anywhere so….
If you can setup your Starlink and get a connection of 20Mbpps or more, then why bother with the hassle of dealing with local providers who have high cost and lack luster service (those speeds vary a lot within 24hrs in my experience )
Accessibility to all , Starlink is freedom really if you think about it, I just watched a gen 3 Starlink video and even the upload speeds are much better , can’t wait for it to launch in Africa 🥳🥳🥳
am happy 4 these
what if you don't have a balcony or somewhere that provides unobstructed access to Starlink's satellite(s)? You're pretty much screwed. At 45000 ksh, I'm not gonna place my receiver on some apartment building roof for someone to steal. That's how much it costs to buy the receiver Elon's not gonna send me a free replacement receiver. And unless Starlink has figured out what a lot of other satellite tv providers have yet to do consistently, what happens when it rains (hard)? From personal experience, the signal is lost. Your argument that "Starlink is available to all" might have some validity but if it isn't practical, what's the point? Starlink might be great if you're in the boonies, or if you live in a free-standing house in a nice neighborhood a good distance away from some 12-story apartment building. If you don't, not so much. I'm intrigued but not 100% convinced it's a radical upgrade from fibre.
Yes if you have no balcony, the most likely you are living in an apartment and as you said you have the option of Fibre . My key items is that Starlink is available to all who have a private residence or balcony and it will replace these Fibre companies if they continue playing because i have stayed a stone throw away from an apartment complex (in the city, 5 min from westlands) which had fibre. I called the company and asked their services, even talked to the service guy digging the mutaro for the fibre outside the gate and still they could not offer me their service. They only seem to target apartment housing. So why would i not get Starlink. Back then there was no Starlink so I struggled and I found that one Fibre company that could give me service and guess what. I was paying like 15K for 20Mbpps. In reality that think was like 6Mbpps as it would go up and down like crazy , it was only 20Mbpps on special occasions. So ya I will pay 45k for Starlink all day, bad weather will interfere no doubt but it’s much better than the alternative. Dealing with our nations excellent commando customer service..Surviving the ordeal after call # 6 or 7, so that SIR John is send over to your house in 3 days or mybe 2 weeks time to come fix the 6Mpps. Only to be told there is nothing he can do . Then prices are hiked later on. The 45k is more attractive for now until someone does Fibre right.
Our very own MKBHD!!
I am quite flattered indeed 😁😁
You sure about that
People are buying Starlink more for backup coz of the mistrust in Safaricom shutting down the internet and lying. Also comparing the Safaricom 5G to Unlimited Starlink then recommend Safaricom is kinda unjust 😅
For the city it’s so evident Safaricom is king 😅😅 but for the bundus Starlink is undefeated
Bro, your thinking is flawed. Customers will value Starlink more than Saf. Most people want the quantity of unlimited. speed is a second priority. Its better to have 20Mbps unlimited than having 300Mbps with a limit of 100gb.
Like I said it’s a matter of choice , do you value speed(quality) over unlimited data (quantity)
@@African_josh I would not say that speed is quality.Reliability and consistency is what i would call quality.
We have very few sectors that require 5g. 4g is more than enough for most applications. Imagine trying to watch 4k movies on Safcom🤣🤣the bill would be crazy.
our issue is mostly the data limit.
And remote location where network is a problem
In nigeria fiber has unlimited bundle package but its restricted by speeds between 20 mbps to 300 mbps it all depends on how much you're willing to spebd per month and there is no speed throttling. Star link really nade the network providers step up their game. Its a win win for us consumers the only downside is that the speed of starlink is reduced when many People use it in a particular location which can cause over saturation
Hey loved the video. However dial down more the background music. That will make you more audible
For context, I and many other people haven't used 5G yet.
The information I have on Starlink, I know it's more than worth it
In the area i am at I get 150Mbps download for starlink and 15Mbps upload and have no 5G connection for safaricom but strong 4G connection of less than 100mbps
Wow those are nice speeds , is that in kenya if yes where exactly?
also talk about pricing compare between buying bandles for 5g and that of starlink
Starlink will have it customers just like any other service provider but it's not gonna be a game changer. Their clientele will be where there is no fiber only. I have compared the two and you can't compare the two as fiber will win irrespective of which company provide it.
Will not rush into Starlink first. On Aljazeera they showed SpaceX falling from the skies.
Say that again..Al-Jazeera 😂😂what dimid you expect
Like this content. Can't lie, Elon's really getting cooked
Hey bruh, been loving ur videos. Wea did u get the Anker power bank?
I bought the Anker power bank locally in Nairobi, check out the shop name on instagram.”cellular kenya”
@@African_josh nice, actually wanted to ask this but i have the ans now. 👍🏾👍🏾
Ookla Speedtest might need to be adjusted a bit for Starlink.
Starlink is using a ground station in Nigeria then going via Europe and back to Kenya for the Speedtest. This explains why the latencies are much higher and speedtest slower when using the Ookla Speed Test
I was really disturbed about this ,because the Starlink pings and tests appear to be better in us and Europe , thanks for the insight .
@@African_josh Setting up Starlink Ground stations in Kenya will reduce latencies to 20ms
Bruv depends on where you are 5G is only available i major cities, I switched to Starlink. Nice vid though.
Thank you I’m planning on trying it out in the rural areas
And I am going to live in Bushes wow
I think for Starlink you're not getting maximum speeds at times. I've seen Starlink do 200mbs + and the same upload speeds as Safaricom 5g or lower. Although their download speeds should match on a good day.
You see if you want a fair test for starlink, just install the dish with absolute exposure to the sky
That’s what I want to try out in the rural area where it’s just open skies
Is the Safaricom Speed Consistent sometimes Speed Tests Do not Show the Real Situation. It is Better to use them Both When Downloading Stuff or Uploading.
You have to buy the residental plan if ur in a city, cause if u have roam it priotises the residential plan instead of the roam plan, inless ur in a place with little to no cell service that's how u can get to see it's full performance.
Starlink ofc.
I’ll have to go test it out in the country side
I am in Vihiga and I am getting 250mpbs sometime it’s goes up to 300mbps. It’s been a months since getting it and I can say I am able to do everything from having online calls, to gaming on the Xbox series X to streaming. So far nothing to complain about
@@geoffreyamadi Ok I'm thinking of acquiring starlink too
@@African_josh Can't wait to see the video
@@Mrr-Rhettt please get it as soon as possible. Just a heads up, there was a promo being run by visa and Mastercard when you purchased Starlink through Jumia. At the time of buying I believe it was around 4k though you should confirm. Ended up paying around 25,500/= for it.
Just confirmed it’s still there bank cards get a discount of 4,499/=
Mustafa aksu geldim de

Is it true that Starlink internet has a radius coverage of 10 miles (16 kilometers)?
On the residential package?
@@African_josh Yes.
I would like to know this too, thanks.
Don't use a local server when you doing a speed test coz you're using a Kenyan server but rarely do we host anything on our African servers.
Rather change server to a random USA or European server or Nigeria or South Africa...
That's where most servers are
Now this is something I needed to know , I’ll definitely have to try it on the next video
fibre and 5g
Safaricom wins
Safaricom 5g is really good
But data price is way too much
consider that starlink has a lot of users than Saf limited to few, I hate saf
True in the large scale Starlink has a lot of users right now and it’s quite comparable. I think Starlink will get better with time. I’m actually excited for the Starlink mini can’t wait to see the introductory price here in kenya 🇰🇪
How much data did it consume to do the saf speed test
I don’t know really but lemme check
About a gig
@@African_josh wueeeh so speeds are good but consumption is high
Yeah the speedtest is taxing on consumption so it all depends on your usage
@@African_josh Is it unlimited package? what about pricing compaired to starlink ?
funding elon musk vs keeping the money within our economy
Hehe some of the money still circulates in the economy if you purchase a Starlink kit locally and have it installed by a Kenyan technician 😁
🤣🤣🤣🤡. Fuck money but they are investing more in Ethiopia...🤡
Blame your government for doing away with the 30% ownership. For reference look at what SA requires Starlink to do for it to operate there🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡
Ng'ombe si lazima ikue kwa shape ya ng'ombe
i use saf 5g kisii got 1gbps

Damn a whole gig 🥹🥹🥹
This is good we are headed in the right direction
