id rather watch you guys than anything on tv, you're a a very hardworking inspirational couple, really looking forward to the next episode
So pleased you enjoy watching! 🙂 Thanks of the support MC!
Me too!
Totally agree 👍
Same to me too, I'd rather watch them than all these vloggers nowadays.
Hard work really does pay off. You two are bloody amazing. Congrats on your 1st anniversary. I can only but imagine what you will create in the next year. Well done. 🎉
Thanks so much Edie 🥰 cannot wait to see where the next year takes us!
This world used to be a place to learn to suffer, but that has to change. Make this world heaven!
All your hard work has revealed a beautiful foundation for your vision. You should be so proud. Make sure you put your garden where there is good drainage and a minimum of 8 hours of direct sunlight every day possible to prevent mold and mildew. I can't wait to see how everything comes together.
We honestly can get over just how beautiful the land is. Thanks for the tip on the garden, I will set a timing up tomorrow to see how long that section has direct sunlight 😀
It is Wales? 😬 😂
You two are a “Breath of Fresh Air” Keep up the good work!
Now this is my kind of content. Empathetic, powerful and of course entertaining. Lovely that both of you have taken the time to share your journey with the world. I/we look forward to the next installment
Thanks so much Peter 🙂 so pleased you enjoy!
Hi guys John and Kathy here, just to say love what you are doing been trying to make the jump to off grid for two years not there yet but so inspired by you .
The "Coal Hole" should have been made with a shovel door in the bottom to get the coal out.
It’s like an archaeological dig- all the discoveries! You need a “museum “ or interpretation centre showing the history of your place .
Love ❤️ what you are doing. So many great life skills, hope you’re taking care of each other and your relationship. It can be tough spending sooo much time together ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Mark! LOVE the idea of some type of history wall/area 🙂
I don't impress easily but I'm so pleased I happened across your projects. You're really hard workers and committed to creating a gem of a site from scrub and scrap.
Your vision is inspirational.
Joe and Emilie keep smashing it
It’s amazing to learn about the History of your new place!! So proud of how much you have accomplished!! Blessings from Kentucky 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks MP! 🙂
Keep at it guys. You don't know yet but you are both about to become richer than you could ever dream of.
It's funny as we've never wanted lots of money, just enough to live simply :)
08:05 ... Don't forget wood chips also make a perfect "brown" for compost. Make compost "lasagna" by alternately layering browns and greens (grass, leaves, rinds). Turn over when it stops steaming and keep adding to it. Compost tea can be made by placing the bottom layer in a 30 gallon trash can half-way up, fill to the top with water and add molasses for "fuel." Stir every so often and in a month ... compost tea for the biggest and tastiest garden veggies. Great for raised bed nutrition, also.
When I was a boy in the late 70's we had 12 large brown chickens and once a year we would dig the top layer of soil out of the chicken run and spread it on the vegetable plot and dig it in. It is very good fertiliser, but you have to put it on a month or two before planting.
Jon and Emilie (and not forgetting Maggie) you have lived through the worst part and now the next chapter is moving on very fast. Great to see the land finally cleared. Moving them windows was very sketchy! My heart was in my mouth hoping it wouldn’t fall over. 🫣 What a great coal bunker you built. Are you allowed to burn coal nowadays? Maggie is soooo cute and obedient. It’s obvious she loves you both. The plans seem so real now - it’s going to be a wonderful place to stay, not too commercialised with some lovely touches. Well done for your hard work, it does pay off. Can’t wait to see some more. Dave Birmingham
Thanks so much Dave. It's amazing seeing the before and after of our land since Ben came with his excavator! What a change 🎉 we couldn't get over how HEAVY the windows were...it left us wondering how on earth we are going to be able to fit them when it comes to it 🤣 You aren't aloud to burn traditional house coal (which is bituminous coal) but you are allowed to burn hard coal/anthracite coal which is a smokeless fuel, which is great for us! So very pleased it won't go to waste. It's been amazing finalising our plans and inspiration for the land. We have another exciting week this week, as we get ready to pour our concrete bases, so excited to get our content coming out more regularly now the sun is out!
Your videos are never long enough, so entertaining. Good luck to you.
Those papers were definitely a treasure you guys are awesome love the updates 😊😊😊
We were so excited when we found them! What a bag of goodies!
Its so inspirational to see you one year on and showing that hard work does pay off and that you can have a different lifestyle if youre willing to try. Keep up the amazing work and inspiring people
Oh my goodness, I have been following you since the first episode.. what a transformation!! You two are absolutely amazing, it looks beautiful even before the new builds, you must have had incredible foresight to see what that plot could be.. hats off to you both for your hard work and dedication.. x
Thanks so much for supporting us from the start! ❤❤
Me too! I am absolutely invested in this whole thing!
Literally just finished watching another person and decided to check if your vid was up yet, perfect timing
Enjoy TJ 😊😊
Project camp?
The changes you’ve made are phenomenal. Looking forward to seeing your future projects.
Thanks so much Dee! 😃
New subscriber. Love your channel. Nurse Judi in Scottsdale AZ
Hard work, but so worth it. What a difference in such a relatively short space of time. Access to a personal shower etc is a great idea.
Thanks Wendy! Very excited for us to have access to an indoor shower too 🙂
Your property is going to be so nice when it is all complete.
That is a very good idea about the shower block each place having their own shower block. have a lovely day.
First year past. That was super quick.Looking so much better now that the digger has levelled the ground and it opens up the views. The coal find was a real plus and great to see that you have recycled the timber to build the store.👍
Thanks Kevin. It feels like the progress has really increased now! So excited to see how much we get done over these next few months 🎉🎉
This 1000 kilo of anthracite coal should keep you warm for a winter, especially the coldest part of the winter. For spring and autumn, you could use wood.
Best stove to buy would be one that can burn wood and coal and preferably one with a funel where you can feed the coal from the top. Those burn for 24 hr/day, so nice and warm all day long and you only have to 'feed' it 2 times a day.
Haha! I sound like a salesman 🙂
Wow!!! I haven't watched the whole video yet but the pictures and old items you've found are incredible!! 😯
What you thought was a cheque in the pile of papers, was in fact a Postal Order.
oh thanks for letting us know 😊
Just watched 2 of your videos obviously this one and the one where you dismantled the caravans. What a great job you’ve done and are going to do. Amazing
Sorry to be that guy. But two suggestsions.
1.) Don't put a membrane down around your raised beds. It kills the soil under it and you still get loads of weeds which eventually break through your membrane, you can either use weedkiller or damage the membrane further to dig them out, plus you drop plastic into the environment. I suggest cardboard and a nice thick layer of mulch 150mm.
You'll get weeds but it's easy to pull them up and or dig them out. Another bonus. You can move your beds around nice and easily. Trying to get membrane that was laid about 15 years ago by previous owner. It's horrible.
2.) Having just suggested you need a load of mulch :-) Consider creating some dead hedging with your brush you've cut. Use your willow whips to mark out the fence and stuff them with small branches etc. It's really good for wildlife and saves mulching or burning if you have excess material.
p.s. Loving the channel. Shows what you can do!!
Follow your dreams, True Love of Everything and Everyone
Hi guys. I've looked at a few of the comments but I have not seen any mention the poor sound quality. It's fine when you are talking to the camera but as soon as you turn away the vocals are hard to hear. Maybe consider getting some personal mics so that you can wear one each so that the content is more enjoyable wherever you are facing.
Love watching this kind of content
Just watched first 30 seconds and wanted to pause to tell you how I've noticed a huge change in how comfortable you both are in front of the camera! Great stuff. 👍 I
Thanks JC 😀 must admit speaking on camera feels a bit alien to us, so glad we are improving video by video!
@Camp Out West I'd be blooming useless so all credit to you! Also having watched full video, what a change! You must be so pleased the real work can begin now you've got a clean slate!
So cool that you went to visit The Restoration Couple. I've enjoyed their channel for years and just discovered yours today. I'm looking forward to catching up on all your content.
It will be so nice. Overhangs on roofs are much more visually pleasing. ❤
Yes, Jon loves an overhang! 😊
So nice to have a clean slate to build your dreams on.
Such a good feeling! 🙂
WOW! even though I do not know you IF anyone ever called either of you lazy, I would defend you!!!
I have been so hoping there would be a new update. Thoroughly enjoyed your last recap video. Astounding how resourceful you have managed to be with this site - particularly impressed with saving the coal - what a lovely tribute to the hard working men that spent their lives digging it out! Great job guys!
a caravan which colors matches the dog..how classy!!!!
Everything you moved Em got the heavy part. Brutal lol
haha! Trust me Jon takes the weight for most things - my chicken arms would snap off otherwise
It's lovely to see how much you've achieved in the last 12months.., congratulations to you both. It hasn't been easy with all the rain we've had, so well done!
I'm looking forward to the next chapter of your story, thank you for sharing it. 👍☺️♥️
Thanks so much Heidi! So excited for what's next 🙂
Guys, some great ideas. A massive turning point acheived. No longer demolishing, but making better! Looking forward to seeing the on-going progress.
Thanks Matt! It's just the best feeling. Getting Ben on site has been amazing, it's really changed the land! So excited to show you what we are up to this coming week!
@@CampOutWest I cant wait to see the.progress. what you guys are doing is inspirational. Will have to book the lodge when you get it sorted.... Can't do the glamping as the Mrs says I snore so would not want to keep other Glampers awake :-)
getting all that trash cleaned up, probably, really makes it smell better out there!
So amazing waking up and looking out and seeing how clear it is now 😀
Amazing progress. You'll soon get your just rewards and the idyllic lifestyle you're both working so hard towards. Good luck. 👍
I love how everything is coming along! Great Job guys! Can’t wait to see the next stage!
Thank you! Such an amazing feeling looking outside our caravan window and seeing the land clear!
Omg I watched you just as you started somehow I've missed you and forgot about your channel it just came to my feed I'm so happy and won't forget you again ! Wow what a difference I remember you smashing up the caravans lol
Hi Both, I stumbled across your channel when your first year anniversary video appeared on my youtube homepage. I'm really interested to see what progress you make and as such a hard working couple you'll make your dreams come true. My wife and I are both from West Wales but have lived in Cardiff for a long time. We still pop down to see relatives from time to time. A lovely part of the world.
I recall the days of anthracite being mined in the Amman Valley and shipped out by train via Pantyffynnon. It's so different today.
Brilliant such hard workers just great to watch
Ahhh it's so gorgeous!! I can't wait to come and stay and finally meet Maggie xxxxx
We cannot wait :) xxxx
I moved from Wales to Australia 20 years ago and sitting here on a Saturday morning watching your videos is making me very homesick. My Australian wife and I love watching your videos
Hiraeth is strong isn't it. Hope our videos bring you some nice memories of your homeland :)
Put all those finds on Facebook it might jog some memories for a family
Love this idea 😀
Love watching you both, well done for all your hard work
You have worked hard to clear the old buildings and old tree roots ready for a new look and a business and also a place you can call home.
Thanks Mark! So happy with the progress 😀
Thanks!
wow i knew when i watched your first one that i had been there before but after watching this one i 100 percent know i have been there a few times over the years , i work on the power lines checking for trees to close to the lines , and remember talking to someone who was still living in a caravan there about 10 odd years ago there who had small dogs , well done you have done loads there looks good , i will probably be there looking at the lines again some time soon ill say hi
The sun came out! Well for a bit. You guys are making great progress.
Thanks Sandy! Fingers crossed the sunshine is here to stay 🙂 we are so happy with the progress!
I thought like that if I was to find 3-5 acres, my mobile home and little bungalows.
Great minds think a like 😊
Wow, what achievement you guys have achieved in just 12 months. You must be so proud and you really are inspirational to others to do the same. Hard work pays off hey, keep up the great videos!
Thank you so much JB!
Lovely too see all your hard work coming to it's fruition, great lifestyle, happiness you just cannot buy
Good luck keep the updates coming 👍
All I can say is, I’m jealous!!!
We feel very lucky :)
Emilie, Jon, and of course can't leave Maggie( U R so Beautiful)..Y'all have made such a remarkable
transformation in such a short time,( yes, a year may seem long for some,)but all y'all have had to do with lil help, is
REMARKABLE.. I just 💙 the washing faculty..
Is it Portable? We here in the states have portable laundry when hurricane hit areas. .
Your windows are Beautiful...I'm so looking forward the home build, now( hopefully weather corporates)..Your storage for the wood / coal is spot on....Keep safe in all you do...♥️🥀
Thank you Taylor 🥰 the laundrette is so cool! It's stationary but you can access it 24 hours a day. It's pay as you go to, so it makes it so easy. We are so excited the windows arrived too! Makes us feel one step closer 😃
What a beautiful dream!😊
Can't believe how invested I am in watching you build your dream guys. Blessings from across the border in Shropshire.
Thanks so much for the support Chris! So excited to show you what's coming up next 🎉
Just maybe on your property you could build a small remembrance cabin filled with everything you have found. Some things are worth saving.
Love that idea! I know we need something for all the treasure we've found 🙂
We get a kick out of watching others accomplish a task. Cool Beans.
We are the same, we love watching other youtubers building their dream lives!
Great video! Maybe you could investigate Earthships as a future project or integrate those design principles into your off-grid homestead?
Thanks for the tip Lin - we've watched a programme about earth ships the other day actually! Incredible!
What a mega story love maggie❤
You're doing a great job! Love it!
Fascinating to watch, your progress is astonishing and I have the greatest respect for the brilliant way you tackle things. It's going to be wonderful and hopefully we can come to stay when its finished. Your picturesque spot is amazing.
Should look at using ground screws, for your decking and toilet block
Hobbit homes would look lovely on that land and would be really heat and energy efficient.
Thanks Stephanie! They would look amazing but sadly we don't have planning permission for that type of building 😅
Really coming together now. Can’t wait to see what’s next
Thanks guys! :)
You'll need to get a mini tractor with various attachments to maintain the groundworks. 😎 👍
They are on our 'if we won the lottery' list haha!
There might be a Facebook group for that school. Someone might want that book. Oh! I really like your vision.
Great idea! We will have a look 😀
#TeamMaggie! Good luck, guys! If you ever build tiny homes to let, please consider me as an eager guest!
Oh, and I'm also a retired cartographer and I'd love to draw you a map of your land to hang in your home when you're finished x
#TeamMaggie 🐄🐾🥰 thank you so much for the kind offer Stephanie xxx
Love you guys, I'm going to
Hi you three🐕🎉 congratulations on your first year on site, what you are doing is amazing. Also good to see the amount of re-cycling you are doing. The plans gives us an idea what the site will look like, wow can’t wait to see it, might even stay if the price is right, ha ha. Tony ❤ xxx
Thanks Tony 🥰 it's been so exciting working out the plan and layout for the site!
You guys rock in every way! I'm originally from North Devon but moved to Canada some 10
= years ago. My wife and I are looking to buy a little piece of land in BC and build our forever ECO home + some cabins and camp spots for the masses, all with the aim of promoting off grid and Eco friendly / self sustained living. We would love to have you come visit when we do so. Sending our best love and best wishes - Keep up the amazing work, J and B x
Great watch. I’m subscribed. Love your get up and crack on attitude. I built one of those cabins that your moving into last year for a client. You’ll love being in it if your in for winter. Can about heat it with a few candles they are so well insulated.
Next time your dragging a heavy pallet use a couple of scaffold pole or similar to roll it on, will pull along a lot easier. Looking forward to following your journey. 👍🙏
I love your ideas and plan for the land can't wait to see the finished site. Thanks for another great video
Thanks Nathan, feel like we're making some progress now so trying to keep up the momentum.
@@CampOutWest Best wishes and the best of luck to you both!
Looking forward to next video. What a difference you've made😊
We are so happy with the progress! Such a change! Thanks Carol 🙂
You guys, please pat yourselves on the back for how much you've accomplished in a single short year. Nothing short of a miracle! I'm in the U.S. but have always wanted to visit Wales. Maybe I'll make it over someday when your cabins/tents are in place. ❤
Thanks so much K! That's so kind of you to say. We honestly cannot wait until we are ready to open up for guests (Maggie especially can't wait to meet all her future friends!)
You could raise funds by offering a pre-booking option to be the first customers to enjoy the new camping facilities.
Thanks for the tip Peter 🙂
I like your vision, don’t stop your doin a fine fine job
thanks Jeff 😊 excited for what's next!
What a great job and future development! Life is good.
Thanks Terri! So excited to bring the next stage to life!
Living on a farm I appreciate your hard work. How much land were you able to purchase ? It looks like a nice piece. And to have water , what a blessing !!! Find anything that your able to share that maybe a good fortune (to help with the costs)...🙂
Great to see you guys again. Congratulations on your progress. Please be mindful of the audio when recording. It was very poor this time. All the best from Newark, Delaware USA.
Thanks Gary! Do you have any feedback as to what doesn't sound good on the audio so we can look into it? As we used the same set up as normal - not sure if it just sounds different because I have a cold currently so my voice sounds quite congested and croaky on the voice overs 🤣
@@CampOutWest during times when the person talking is away from the camera. Hope this helps.
@@garycloud5705 ah I thought you just meant the voice overs. Yea, we were using our GoPro which isn't as direct as our big camera. We've got some clip on mics, just need to test them out :)
Coffee time and sit back and have a good watch, well done guys👍👍
Thanks Brian, hope you enjoy 😊
All your hard work will pay off once completed! I love what you both are creating! Just look at what you both have achieved in just one year!!! Amazing!!! So much work but you were never deterred!! Well done guys! 👏👏👏👏👏💗💗
John and Emily . Thank you. Really enjoyed watching your project and it's inspired me on my own little projects. How much work you have done is phenomenal and will inspire so many people. Thank you 🙏🙏
Amazing the amount of work you guys have done so far! And inspiring how you've turned an abandoned place back into an absolute gem. I'm excited for you both to see the part where you're now building it all up again. Good luck to you both!
Wow! What a difference! Sending love xxx
Thanks Beverley! We are so excited!
You can also use the caol as bichar for your garden.
Its really starting to come together 🎉🎉 so exciting xxxxx
honestly pinching ourselves! Can't wait to see our progress in the next few weeks 🙂
Thanks for another great video - really taking shape (I know I'm behind but watching one at a time hehe). This was my dream some time ago but kids & life got in the way. You're smashing it & looking forward to watching more! Marcus
What you need in a coal bunker is a hatch at the bottom with a slide up cover. Much easier than taking a top cover off and trying to reach the coal down from the top particularly when the coal level gets lower. That’s what all the old coal bunkers with houses used to have. What a great gift though
Thanks for the tip Chris 🙂
I'll come work for free for a few days if I can camp out lol awesome work well done guys!
Thanks for the kind offer JTE 😊
I found you guys by accident and binged watched every episode!! Your hard work is amazing, I wish you the best of luck!
