We're back 🎉 We've had a busy few weeks at our day jobs and working hard to save up our funds for what's coming up next on the land, so we hope you enjoy this video! This is also our first full vlog using our new mic's, so we hope it's improved our audio quality for you all 😁
I thought the audio was bugged, but it seems like the mic is only audible on the right channel. so when i watched this video only with my left earbud, the voices were muted.
Everything else: very nice vlog
We realised when we were editing we set the mic balance up wrong during filming 😂 just glad we got sound and no wind interference like we used to get on our gropro 😂 all a learning curve
Oops. I had that problem on another channel where they just got the rode wireless go mics, where you have a choice of either splitting the input so each transmitter is on a separate channel (i.e. mic 1 is left and mic 2 is right) which gives you flexibility in the edit room to tweak each mics relative volume separately - but they hadn't duplicated each channel for stereo, so like you say you got nothing in one earbud, or the alternative is to send a merged signal so both mics are recorded to L & R. Easier to edit but harder/impossible to fix any balance issues. Anyway audio sounds good here, but i didn't use earphones today so was blissfully unaware of balance issues ❤
@christophwallner473 thank you I was wondering why I couldn't hear anything
@@FallenHellcatsorry! We hope you can hear us now 😊
Warning! Separate the mint into its own container, if you don’t it will overwhelm the bed it’s planted in.
It's actually in a little pot, sat inside the raised bed, it's just so full you can't tell, but thanks for the tip! We have wild mint growing on the land already, smells amazing but it's everywhere 🤣
@@CampOutWest sorry for presuming, you were saying that you were new to the gardening game!
@@ShanghaiGoat that's ok 🙂 thankful for your tips and knowledge ❤️
Watch for spikes on some Russian Kale
For never growing anything before you have done phenomenally well ❤
Your dog has got the right idea - lying down resting while you do all the work!
She is too cute!
I sound like a broken record but I absolutely love watching the progress you've made! These videos really make me smile! Just amazing what you've done! Excited for the next projects x
Kirsty, thank you so much!!! ❤😊
An absolutely inspiring journey you've embarked upon. Transforming abandoned land into a sustainable, off-grid homestead is no small feat, and the commitment you've shown is commendable. It's evident that you've invested not just financial resources but also an immense amount of hard work, time, and emotional energy. By taking the bold step of selling everything for this dream, you've given many of us the courage to consider sustainable living as a feasible and rewarding lifestyle. Your video serves as both an educational guide and a source of inspiration. Looking forward to witnessing the continued growth of your homestead. Best wishes.
Taking it day by day and loving every moment, lesson and step. Thank you so much for your support and for joining us on this adventure! x
Hello Jon and Em: thank you for bring us along with you, while you cultivate your land and build a new home for yourselves. Take your time and do it right, have fun and enjoy working in the garden and working with chickens. Enjoy the mornings and enjoy the sun sets. Also hug your dog and spend time with each other on this new venture you two are working on. Keep safe, until next time.
Thank you Phil ❤ I think we say everyday how lucky we are to call this our home, we feel so grateful we get to do this and have our sweet Maggie and each other ❤️
Amazed you got so much done considering you're both working on your other jobs too. The fence looks great and well done, whichever hen was first to lay. Hope it was Rosie, that's one of our cats' names. Oh and nice one nephews, your plants are winning 🪴🪴🪴
Thanks Lottie! That's nice of you to say as we feel like we're being slow haha! We have 4 weddings left for the season and then we have 6 months off again to fully focus on the land so we are so excited! The boys did such a good job!
Mic 🎤 👌 your garden looks great 👍
Congratulations on your 1st egg 😊
Love the new fencing, your property is really taking shape 👌🇦🇺🐨🦘
Thanks so much Kay! Really feel like we're getting somewhere now ❤
You should be congratulation the hen that layed the egg 😅. He didn't 😂
@@elainemcgran8828 😂😂😂 don't worry we thank the girls too! ❤
Great seeing the progress. Thanks for sharing your journey with us all, very inspirational.
Thanks! Please you enjoy watching 😊
Well done on all the raised beds - it's so satisfying when you start to get an actual harvest, isn't it? A couple of tips on watering to make the most of it: if you water in the evening, it gives the water time to soak in before the heat of the day starts to evaporate it. And try to water at the base of plants rather than just from above. Water droplets on the leaves can just evaporate, and in strong sun, they can act like lenses and scorch the leaves. Good luck!
Yep yep yep, great tips.
Thanks so much for the great tips 😊 that's great! I will start watering in the evenings instead, thank you! xx
No shortcuts with you two. Love watching you progress🥰
Thanks Imelda ❤😊
You two are a breath of fresh air. I love how you are trying to take your time and paying attention to detail and making your place so beautiful.
Thanks Rhonda, we really feel like we are getting somewhere now!
Excellent progress. The veg garden is looking superb, great tip with the egg ,you could see the joy in your face . The fence makes a big difference really impressive. I am looking forward to the next update
I couldn't believe it when Jon showed me the egg! It was like Magic! Maggie loved eating every mouthful!
Pullet eggs are always small. And tasty! The main difference between pullet eggs and 'normal' eggs is the amount of water. Nice to see you back. You have been very busy.
Maggie has been enjoying them scrambled with her breakfast 🥰 lucky girl!
I'm Australian. And I get a huge kick out of seeing Aussie things - like Head Space and our rock bands - pop up in US, UK & European videos.
A small country in the middle of nowhere that can export to the world.
Love this Beth :) Both our brothers live in Australia! We love it over there, thanks for all the good stuff you give us in Wales!! 😄
This is all coming together so beautifully, it’s a real treat to be following the progress you’ve made.
Can't believe it's our garden 😍
Garden coming along very nicely. When your beans start getting very big and too tough to eat leave them to go to seed and dry out - you can then use the seed next year to have new plants. If you have far too many seeds once dried you can cook them and eat them like kidney beans only they will be a lot bigger. They make a lovely tasting hummus too, albeit a strangely coloured one
Thanks for the tip Suzanna! I'm excited to see what we can grow from seed next spring. Love the idea of making kidney bean hummus too!
Hi guys. When things get a bit to busy here is a small idea for the garden.
Look at getting a rain water collection system. Build a water header butt with a pump on a timer to water the garden at set times. You can then add nutrients to the irrigation system to enhance the growth of the vegetables. This will reduce your workload to simply checking your garden is watered. It will stimulate better growth.
Best of luck guys. 🙂
I wrote this comment at the start of the video. However you could do the above suggestion with the rest of the garden (raised beds)
Thanks for the tip! We were looking into a rain water system so this is a great suggestion 😁
Hi you lovely couple, so good to see how well you are progressing. Your vegy plot is spectacular! For absolute beginners it all looks pretty professional to me, super healthy plants, boundary fence looks impressive, amazingly beautiful chickens, simply heartwarming video.❤
thanks Pat, we are enjoying planting/growing so much! We can't believe how much we are enjoying it. So pleased you enjoyed watching ❤
Don’t pick to many leaves off the kohl rabi, wait until the bulb is between golf ball and tennis ball size before harvest, the bulb is lovely grated into salads or roasted with potatoes or just steamed..
Thanks for the tips lewis! Can't wait to try them when they are ready. We saw a recipe last night and someone had made a type of 'chips' with them that looked amazing!
@@CampOutWest yes they make nice chips to, I also sent you a message on instagram about a worm bin, cheap to make but saves a lot of money in future
So many more achievements. The garden is coming along great. It looks so tidy and organised with the raised beds. Looked like Maggie was helping with the potato planting. That latest raised planter looks great and obviously works very well. Congratulations on your first egg ( let’s hope them hens get cracking with some more - sorry for the pun). The fencing really looks sturdy and smart - a welcome addition. That ditch is a great idea for draining the land - it may fill up and become a wildlife magnet. Can’t wait to see the plans for the toilet block/laundry. Only a short while ago you celebrated 100k subs now at 120k wow - onwards and upwards. Good luck as always. Dave Birmingham
It was so funny! Maggie kept trying to take the potatoes from the boys 😂😂 she was very interested and sniffing everything. Craig and Dia did an amazing job on the fencing 💪 very excited to start the next build 🎉
Woo🎉 you’ve both come so far! 👍🏻👍🏻❤️😊
Thanks Georgiee ❤😊
also, you can increase egg output by adding protein - cooked red kidney beans are ideal
Thanks for the tip 🙂
How amazing everything looks. Great also to see the fence up. Thanks.
Craig & Dai did such a good job on the fence 👏
Love your guys videos and am in awe of what you've done. I work for a seed company, if you ever need any seeds or plants, please let me know.
ROOTS AND RUFUGE is the best RUclips to learn gardening on. There’s a lot of teaching in their playlist 😊 Your garden is beautiful! 😊
Oh thanks for the tip! I will check them out 😊😊😊
Your videos are proof that hard work pays off. It is an absolute joy to watch your successes. They have been well earnt. Best wishes from Australia 👍😀🇦🇺
Thanks so much Dot! Really feel like we're progressing now 😀
Fantastic gardening. I always leave 1 plant of every variety and let them go to seed. I have a great collection of spinach, chard, lettuce, broccoli, tomato seeds etc. My calendula is a volunteer in my garden yearly too. Enjoy. I have my own little RUclips no dig garden channel. I think I have 15 subs. I wish I had the confidence to do more. I enjoyed your video and excitement of having a new garden.
Oh that's such a good idea! We will try that too, thank you! Well make that 16 subscribers now! Excited to see what you post ❤ we believe in you and can't wait to see what you post!
Hi, I'm really enjoying seeing what you two have accomplished in such a short time on your land. It proves that what you set your heart on doing pays off immensely. So happy for you both. 😊
Thank you! Really feel like we are finding our feet and getting somewhere now 😃
You can boil the beetroot leaves like swiss chard we usually harvest our beetroot before it gets too big so the leaves are tender too. Really enjoying your progress
oh I cannot wait to try that! Thanks for the tip Denise! Who knew growing your own veg would be this fun!
Good luck to you two on your wonderfully homestead.
For healthier bushier plants look into the way you harvest. Invest in a pair of snipping secateurs rather than tearing you'll se the difference.
thanks for the tip! 😁
I'll be in touch, I work for a starting company that builds... all I'll say is tiny homes. :). Keep up the amazing work. I totally get it.. every mistake is a 'happy accident', I can bore my friends about different types of wood, types of soil I never knew existed and I'm no Builder; I'm 5ft 7 guy on a good day, need more watering! 😄
...
I can't take credit though- my mother designed everything. I left university on my 21st birthday and continued to study for my Phd (in Applied History) while the roof was being put on a piece of freedom. No regrets- its worth it. Rest when you can!
Brilliant progress, you have done so much it’s amazing. Enjoy your crops x
Brilliant! Loved this episode, it’s all coming together guys, well done!!
You guys are doing wonderful things on your property
Fabulous ! You are just such an inspiration. Love the joy you are getting out of your labours . Hope the chickens do their bit to contribute to pending harvest of wonderfulness . xx
Discovered your channel today ,im hooked and very inspired love Maggie ❤
Fantastic it's really coming together now
So excited to start our next project 🎉
Instead of draining the land, use Swales to migrate the water around the land. A pond will also help retain water for times of drought.
Wonderful- thanks for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching Jayne 🙂
Well done both ,it's coming on looking good.
Thanks John! We are so happy, really feel like we are getting somewhere now :)
good progress. The garden comes along nicely.
Thank you, we are so happy with it!
Amazing job guys. X
If you are getting a polytunnel, may I recommend "First Tunnels" we used one of their 12 feet wide tunnels at our community allotments. it was 35 feet long with double sliding doors at each end had twin roof supports and aluminium wind up air vents on one side, all for under £2000. well made and well worth every penny. Do not buy the cheap green plastic covered tunnels with poles that are only 1 inch dia. they are useless and will be wrecked in the first storm. The First Tunnel frame is 2 inch dia and sturdy as a rock...you could even rig a swing from the top of the arch and it would not move.
I have no connection with First Tunnels...I am just a very happy customer.
Dave
You do incredible neat work... nothing out of it's place... everything is sooo well put together and planned... can't wait to see the rest.
Like watching the progress on your videos, your well chilled out delivery, sets me up for the day. Thanks.😊
Great progress! Loving these updates it’s all looking brilliant
Thanks so much Sam :)
Lovely vlog folks, thank you.
Thanks so much Isobel 😊
Just a thought. When you are shovelling soil, wood chips, mulch or sand etc. from a heap - always operate from the ground level.
Amongst other things it reduces the heap’s footprint but when the shovel slides in from below the material above it automatically falls down .
By working from the top or part way up of a heap the shovel “bounces” against the edge of the stack.
A lot less energy is used when working from below.
Just try it!
Thanks so much for the tip Peter, that makes a lot of sense! We will try that next time :)
Great progress with the raised beds . Love watching your videos ❤
We are so happy with them! Can't believe it's our garden!!! xx
It’s absolutely beautiful
Yeayyyy! Step by step closer to your big dreams. ❤
Satisfyingly straight fence. Well done guys!
Isn't it Neil! Craig and Dai did a great job!!!
Rocket needs to be well watered to stop it bolting. Mint in its own pot. When u prep veg in kitchen, retain seeds, dry them if wet, plant them next spring. If buying seeds look out for disease resistant, eg carrot resistant to carrot fly
The fencing looks great, definitely best idea to get professional fencers in, drain is a good idea too, where does the water in the drain go?
Craig & Dai did such a good job! So pleased we found them!
i really enjoy this channel. thank ya all so much.
So pleased you enjoyed 😊
Well done all your hard work is starting to show the garden looks amazing ❤
Can't believe it's our garden 😍
It's great seeing the progress, and thanks for sharing your journey with us all. The fencing and bitch look great you get some drone footage to show how its coming along, look forward to your next post.

I do the same😊
Well done guys, that’s a daunting task to take on!
Thanks Andrew, feel like we are really progressing now, bit by bit!

Thanks for the tip! We like it must be Hawk 😊
Market garden coming on beautifully!! Love the veggie trig thingy & you’ll be self sufficient before you know it. Have you thought about potatoes yet? A great and enthralling watch as always! Thanks for sharing, Marcus

Thank you so much ❤❤❤
You’re doing great.. you should be so proud of yourselves x never want this to end x
Thank you Tracey! ❤
Fantastic video great quality and professional love to watch you guys been here since the first episode x
First video using our new camera and new mic combo so your comment has made our day! Thank you! 💜
Love watching the progress and Maggie’s input on all the projects. We’ve kept rescue battery hens for many years and one of the best devices we’ve used is the Chuxaway pop hole auto opener /closer. It’s run on batteries and you simply set the times you want the pop hole door to open in the morning and close at night. It saves you having to get up very early in the summer and having to shut them up each night. Also if you have an evening out you know that they are safely tucked away.
We love that the weather has been dry enough for Maggie to enjoying staying out side with us on projects (she hates the wet weather so seeks refuge in side when it's bad haha) Oh we have one of the door openers! We love it, it's so handy although the batteries do not last very long haha!
Oh I’m surprised - they usually go for at least a year. Maybe you have a heavy door?
Always relaxing. Loved the very soft background. Look forward and love your calming videos.
That's so nice to hear Valerie ❤
Another brilliant video cant wait for the next xx
Thanks so much Cherry!
Well done chaps happy days x
So happy with how the garden is coming along 🙂

Stunning raised beds and can’t believe how much things have grown. Great idea that new bed with the cover 👍
Isn't the vegepod great! It's made everything grow so much quicker! we'll be eating carrots in no time 😄
Those beds are looking great! And almost no pest damage! Belter.
Thanks Katie! Fingers crossed we can keep the pests at bay haha!

You are amazing!!! I've watched all you videos and wait impatiently for the new ones to appear. Thank you for being normal, realistic people and not 'over the top' crazy or flashy. Your humility and honesty is so refreshing. Thank you.
Thank you for saying that ❤️ we try to just be real and ourselves, so that's nice to hear xxx
There's nothing like your very first egg, you never forget it so congratulations! I was so happy to see a new episode from you two, it made my day!! from Trish in Cape Bridgewater, Victoria Australia xxx
The most exciting feeling! Maggie enjoyed it scrambled with her morning breakfast 🧡
Another great video, love watching the progress you are making on the land and I find it quite educational....The guys doing the fencing certainly knew their job...Keep up the good work..
Thanks Sandy! Yes Craig and Dai were amazing! You can tell they do it day in day out, amazing job 💪
Love that you feed the dog the brambles. only problem I have now with mine are, they eat them faster than I can pick
Love your vids. So calming and interesting. Well done on the veg season, not always easy to grow, it takes a lot of care and nurturing but very rewarding.😊
It's so rewarding! We are loving it so much. Thank you, so pleased you are enjoying watching 😊
