Do you think we will get any updates on this channel while you're touring? Even just a short video about which basses you've taken with you or something like that. That'd be awesome!
@@reikenkayzerThat would be awesome. Little behind the scenes stuff, life on the road. kiko Loureiro ex Megadeth guitarist has a channel like that. It was pretty cool life on the road stuff.
Nice, the best fuckin' bass player in the world showing how to basic pick guard replacement. And thanking us with honest appreciation for just watching his channel. So cool and grateful. Humility that's for real punk rocker.
I love customizing my gear. My step-father actually has my dream project bass, in a way. Its a roadstar 2, but its got a humbucker by the bridge, and a hidden neck pickup. Id love to be able to somewhat recreate it one day. Greatest bass ive ever played
It looks very cool with the black (or tortoiseshell) pickguard. I'm not crazy about the white pickguards, although I've had them on a couple of Fender basses.
I did the exact same thing when I got my bass. I knew I would when I first noticed it hanging on the wall in the music shop. I have wanted a fender signature Matt Freeman bass since I was a teenager.
Great seeing this. Would love to see you set up a bass from scratch. Yes I’m sure there are other vids on RUclips like that but it would be great seeing it from you. By set up your bass I mean adjust the action or intonation, take out / put in pick ups, etc. Would also love to see some devils brigade stuff and to see you play / talk about that upright bass!
I also have a Squier classic Vibe 70s P Bass add a classic Vibe jazz bass and I found out that fender parts work with them pretty much with no problem as far as fit the only thing you might need to do is Rheem out the holes for the tone pots and the jack a little bit because sometimes they come with the cheap little dime-sized pots but that's a easy fix
Couldn’t be better timing. I was just about to put a black pick guard on my new white p bass. Wonder where I got that idea? lol. I’d love to see how you like to set your bass up. Mines new and came out of the box with the action about 3 times as high as fender recommends. But when I put it at their spec there is buzzing. Curious to see how much buzz you’re ok with before raising the action.
Nice one Matt gotta say i change pickguards pretty much the same way Would love to see you play Cocktails, Who Would've Thought, Leicester Square or Fall Back Down Cheers
Love the vid. Like the call out to the old school pickup plates. Ashtrays lol, especially the old bridge plate theyd put on basses with the foam mutes. I agree with the other comments saying a video from the road would be dope. Keep the videos coming!
Gonna do this to my girlfriends off-brand P-bass to make her want to learn how to play it 🤣 I’d love to see a video about your tone/signal chain. Your tone on Fall Back Down is fucking legendary.
@@MattFreemansBassBunker Thanks Matt! You are one of my favorite bass players period! Do you use flatwounds on any basses? I put flats (DRs) on my Squier P Bass and was surprised how much I enjoyed playing them. Thanks again!😎👍✨
Have a original Player series in a yellow color too and did the same thing as soon as I got it a couple years back! The black looks so good against the yellow body and maple neck!
Hey Matt - can you list the 3-5 *who* songs that inspired you most on your playing. Same with any other specific songs. Your style is so good - what are bands you’d recommend that maybe we’ve not heard of that would have the bass as integral to the sound as op Ivy/rancid? Thanks! Love your channel - lifelong fan of your playing. Got my first bass because of “and out comes the wolves”
Just checked out charger it's fucken awesome dude..it's like motorhead 2..the only way it cld be better is if Lemmy was singing..come to Australia legend..
Nice video Mr. Freeman. I've seen rancid play seven times and I saw you play bass with social distortion too. Looking forward to the next time you come to Detroit or anywhere around here. Any recommendations on playing such long sets without having your right arm die on you? Warmups? These are very interesting videos. Thanks dude. Appreciate ya
I have a Silver blue 2004 Mexican Fender P Bass and I bought a clear pick guard and put some hot pink glitter scrap book paper underneath and bingo custom pick guard 👍
I love that some of the new Player II's come with black pickguards. I've tried ordering replacements for my white pickguards, and they didn't fit. And I don't have the tools or know-how to trim them, sadly.
Go to 'WDMusic.com'. You can order a custom or stock replacement pickguard. Go to pickguards, select your instrument, then look at all the color styles available.
Update: I shelled out a little more for a better quality replacement pickguard, got it today, and put it on following Matt's very good instructions. It fits and looks great! I'd only ever tried changing J-bass pickguards before, so there were a few more steps this time, but still: pretty dang easy! Thanks, Matt!
I think the pickup sounds good. It all depends on what your looking for. RUclips is good to try to figure that out. There is so many out there. If I have a pickup go down I replace mine with Fender 63 reissues. It a classic P Bass pickup. Thanks for watching
What's your impression of the Player 2 series? I guess for the basses the biggest difference to the old ones is the rolled edges of the fingerboard, otherwise it's mostly cosmetics (new colors, rosewood)?
It’s actually a really good Bass. I put it through my big Stage amps just to see what it would sound like and it did great! I got it mostly for the color. Most of my Basss are Black, White or some version of sunburst. I had to branch out a bit .haha
I’m going to take a trip Berkeley on my next day off, I saw Oakland Ballers Stickers at Games Of Berkeley. I can get you one to slap on that bass, if you want! 🤘⚾️
Done this to all my fenders, problem now is 3 of my 4 fenders all have tortise shell pic guards with a torrise shell pick guard currently on the way to replace that last white pick guard...good grief!
I can do most everything except fret work. I do have “a guy” do stuff. There are allot of tricks that come with working on stuff everyday and a good tech can really make the difference. Thanks for watching

Excellent idea!! Life on tour with Matt 😆 with some jamming 👌
From operation ivy, to rancid, to showing us how to put on a pick guard. Beautiful
Matt is the bass dad we all needed but never got
I know how to change a pickguard already... but it's Matt, so I still watched and enjoyed!
White with black guard. Classic. ❤

The desk drawer work bench is brilliant!
Let's not forget the ultimate P-Bass pickguard upgrade, the mirrored Mighty-Mite pickguard that Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy had, seriously cool
It looks better in black definitely
I was wondering if a bass version of GGF is possible, would love to see it live !
Day in a life on tour videos would be really interesting.

Thank you for your time Matt. I would love to see more tutorials on your more complex, fast riffs and bass lines.
Oh yeah! I love customizing and modifying basses! Swapping the bridges with Hipshot Kickass Bridges, changing the knobs, and swapping pickguards!
Great advice, thank you very much!! ♥️🤟

Great video, feel like we witness the genesis of one of Matt's basses. Will be fun to follow its journey in competent hands.

this is rad. simple stuff for an old rocker like me, but would have been great when i was starting out. for the kids!
Thank you for the helpful video, great man Matt✨
Lots of Pick Guards !

Good video. I'm glad to see that even the pros do their own work. Do you have any string brands or styles you prefer? Flat wounds or round wounds?🤔
1000% he uses rounds

I'm pretty sure too but he also played Jazz in High School so I am interested in if he still plays them, and if so, on what basses?🤔
I use Fender nickel plated round wounds. .45 .65 .85 .105 thanks for watching

Hey. I have one P Bass I set up with Flats. I use it sometimes in the studio. You can get some great tones out of them.

Were you at the last NOFX show? did we see Fletcher smashing this bass? He smashed one that looked a lot like it.

Today I bought a 90’s Squier p bass and I will be doing the same thing with the black pick guard. It’s great how easy they are to change up.
Hey Matt, thanks for another great video. Can I ask what strings you use?

you could have also switched the pickup covers to white, or like an off white, i bet that would look cool as hell.

wish i could see y’all in SF
Ill see ya in the pit in Toronto!!!!!
You forgot to show how to get the volume/tone knobs off. Do you just yank them or is there a trick to it?
There is a small screw in them. Just loosen it and the they come right off. Thanks for watching
What's the guitar on the left on the wall?
Is that Fender Player 2's Hialeah Yellow color lighter yellow than Player 1's Buttercream? 🤔
I actually saw one today in Denmark Street; it's lighter than buttercream but there's also a shade of lime green. 🤔
that's got to be the new Hialeah Yellow right?
