On my way out of Shady Sands, I ran into the crashed UFO, and was able to make use of the alien blaster right up until the endgame. The poor range of that weapon mattered little for a character with a perception that low.

I can completely agree with what you said. If you get the alien blaster, you win the first Fallout. It was after the first time I stumbled across the alien blaster that I was able to beat the first Fallout for the first time. When I saw the death animation of a person falling to ashes, it completely blew my mind and my stat points went to energy weapons, no more points went to small guns after that!!!
Also it is the best Small Gun in Fallout 1. Why is that? It takes standard AP to shoot, while Sniper Rifle takes more. MAybe only for weaker enemies Combat SHotgun ant 10mm SMG would be also nice. But .223 Pistol is great for all enemies, even Deathclaws.
Loved the video. I always pick up the game every few weeks or so and try a random spec /stat build just for the heck of it. The replayability is simply Godlike! Even more so in the sequel
Turbo Plasma Rifle was a godsend in my first full play through recently. I had that with the fast shot trait and bonus rate of fire,better crits and more crits perks and it made destroying all those mutants a breeze. With 10 Agility and 10 AP I was able to shoot that thing 5 times a turn if I wanted and pretty much everything exploded in 1-2 hits.
Hey +Caedo Genesis, great video! You missed one though! If you get friendly with the Khans, Diana can tinker with your laser rifle to extend the range making it a unique weapon. Try it sometime!
Fun fact: the .223 pistol is Rick Deckard’s pistol from Blade Runner, and the Fallout 1 description of it says that it was cut down from a rifle (hence why it uses .223 and why Irwin calls it a rifle). This is how Deckard’s gun prop was made for Blade Runner. The prop designers took a Steyr Mannlicher .222 Model SL and cut the stock off and cut the barrel down to make the pistol.
I now understand the Smitty Special, the unique plasma caster in Fallout NV DLC Gun Runners Arsenal, as the plasma caster is very close to the original Fallout plasma rifle texture
After watching your fallout play through I decided to try an unarmed build and got the alien ship encounter and then bobs used car mart encounter back to back after leaving vault 15!!
I just finished playing Fallout 1 today and one of the two super mutant guards in level 4 of the cathedral where the nuclear warhead is located used a turbo plasma rifle.
I love fallout 1 but it's so easy to cheese the whole thing. Go straight to the brotherhood base, go do glow quest and just make sure you trigger the alien blaster event enroute to the glow (quick save until it happens). Get your power armor when you return and bam, 2nd best armor and best weapon in the game before you even start the main quest.
To break the game, get the turbo plasma, PE8 AG8, fast shot trait, Bonus Rate of Fire perk, and the sniper perk. You may have to farm XP from the respawning deathclaws to do this quickly. Then nothing will stand up to 5 shots a turn doing a tonne of Crits.
Another downside for the alien blaster is when enemies get desintigrated all of their stuff just falls to the ground and you won't be able to sort through the loot menu and if it's behind a wall then good luck trying to get those microfusion cells
Funny that the plasma cannon was supposedly a mining and welding tool rather then a weapon due it's bulky size and appearance, however, later developments for the US Army would lead to a more compact and smaller designs, such as the plasma pistol and plasma rifle. I'm such a fallout fiend, no pun intended.

I sold the alien blaster for 5 science books and 2 gun books then saved and reloaded stole my blaster back and repeated till i had 26 sci books and 5 gun books and at lvl 3 i was at 80ish science lol and rich
I once got Red Ryder LE BB right after exiting th vault. The beginning of the walkthrough was a cakewalk but then I wasted all my ammo and had to switch to .223 pistol.
I got the alien blaster went to the glow went down past level three couldnt figure out how to get to level 5 gave up went back to level 3 to get out game crashes. Reload my save go to level 3 same thing. Couldn't get out because I have to backtrack through level 3 to gtfo. Funny thing is my last save was before I got the alien blaster :/
I have never able to get the alien blaster in F1 or F2 and I have played them dozens of times with different builds. I actually believe that it does not exist and everybody just trick me.
