    As always, a great presentation from Mr Hanson. And a reminder that, even in the Covid-times, we may make things more pleasant with attention to little details such as how we dine. My Mother always said that good manners and refinement should be "like a second skin".

    I'm really happy that my parents taught me these simple manners when I was growing up. I think that I understand the reasoning of them a little better now.

    I work in restaurants and I wish more Americans knew the last bit! *SO* many people put their silverware in the "finished" position, then tell me they're not done, or won't let me clear their plate 😂

    Civility is most refreshing. Thank you kindly for this most cordial reminder that manners are for everyone, everywhere, regardless of the circumstances.

    In Denmark we always put our knife and fork in a slight angle, as you show when talking about it being a sign of having finished. We do so both to show we are done eating, but also to ease the clearing for the person doing so. Having the knife and fork there when you’re out dining, makes it easy for the waiter to clear the plate without the knife and fork accidentally sliding around. At least that is what I’ve been taught throughout my childhood. 😊

    I noticed that there's no tablecloth on your table. Growing up I remember my mother always putting a tablecloth on the table. Is it appropriate to leave the table exposed like that? Do you risk damaging the wood?

    • @CC-my2nt
      @CC-my2nt 4 года назад +5

      Just speaking from personal experience: If someone has a nice wooden table they will sometimes leave it exposed as it is visually appealing. However, wooden tables can be damaged and require some maintenance work (might need to be "shaved down" if there is severe damage, apart from that the table might need to be treated with oil or a coating from time to time). In finer dining situations most hosts will tend to use table cloths though.

      if you have a beautiful table, you can use place mats, just like he did. if the table is ugly, definitely use withe linen
