    Since 1972, I have been wrapping guides (stainless ring and a few white ceramic ring back then) with individual threads for trim bands placing each color butted against the next after pull thru. My bands are usually 7-8 wraps in order to hold the over and under tag ends, and as soon as pulled thru an alignmant for centering is done and finalized with a bit of clear nail polish to set and hold the wraps until epoxied. The way demonstrated appears to be substantially more secure on the wraps because the thread is completely under the longitudal underwrap which obviously makes it more secure. Only thing I don't like about this is fiddling with the tag ends to straighten them back out after turning each color of trim, but I will certainly give this a go. I do all my wrapping by hand with a fly bobnin and without aid of any wrapping machines or stands, so this will be a challenge as a newer technique will have to be developed. If it works for me it will be a great help. Thanx.

    Very instructive video thank you. is there a rule of thumb on how long a guide wrap should be, I know a lot is personal preference, but some wraps look way too long to me and I"ve seen others that just look too short, just looking for general rule. thank you

    • @PalmettoRod
      @PalmettoRod  5 лет назад +1

      There really isn't a general rule regarding length. It comes down to personal preference and how you want or don't want to affect the action of a blank. The longer the wrap, the more the epoxy and thread will stiffen it. Some builds that's great for, others it's not. I typically try to keep them as short as possible but also size them to the guide and blank as well.

    • @PalmettoRod

      Doesnt matter the guide. Spinning or casting. Trim bands are all done the same way

    • @cjhenry0101
      @cjhenry0101 5 лет назад

      Palmetto Rod I wasn’t sure if having so many tag ends under the main thread wrap would be noticeable because you’d end up with three tag ends on top of a spinning rod blank. Which is the side of the blank you’d be looking at while fishing.

    • @PalmettoRod

  • @mandolin8297
    @mandolin8297 2 года назад

    EXCELLENT WORK! I need to remind myself to NOT trim the nails on my index fingers - much easier to push those threads snug when there's a little space between them. I do believe women are better at this kind of fine detail work, thanks to fine motor coordination skills and smaller slenderer fingers. Oh, yeah, and better color perception compared to males who have fewer "cones" in their eyes and tend to be more often color blind compared to females. Hey, ever seen Dad (or yourself) wearing one dark blue sock and one black one? Maybe women are a bit more patience too.
