Newbie builder here.. used your straw method with recent tag wraps but they would come loose when I burnished them. I started adding a wee drop of color preserver just where the two tag ends stuck out then waited to trim them until the CP had dried. No more unravelling. Yay!!! Thanks for sharing that method, it makes a nail knot much nicer than the one where you don't use the straw but trap the threads between your thumb & index finger. Sorry I missed the live stream... next time...
I learnt how to do tie ends easier now that's what I learnt thankyou, am only new to this and I'm using old rods and stripping them down and replacing the guides atm. Thanks for the tips
I'm currently building a 10', 2-piece 5wt fly rod for the first time in almost 40 years. That tag wrap technique is new to me and so easy I got it on my first try! Just ordered a dozen different threads and hope to finish the rod by next week with some nice bling like sawtooth wraps and nice tags on the single foot guides above eh two-foot stripping guide. First time ever making my own grip and that went well. Some great videos and I'm watching lots!
That came out very nice John, the video was a little long but well worth it . I like the colors you picked they go well together with the decals and shrink wrap.🔥👍👊
You are giving ideas on my build, but i need to know which way to point the guide since one side of the large guides are looped around both sides of the guide.
@@arnoldl.arrington5147 - as you see it in the thumbnail it should be applied to the blank. Meaning, in the thumbnail, the bottom or butt of the rod is at the bottom of the thumbnail.
Another awesome video. Are you grinding the feet on the Alps guide before wrapping it? I couldn't tell if you did. Keep the videos coming, they're very helpful.
Have been building rods off and on for 40 years. Starting back into it and really like your style. Easy to follow and understand. Thanks

Love the videos John!! They are super helpful! I was curious if you recommend double wrapping the guides?
Thank you and I’m glad you love them. I only double over wrap heavy freshwater and saltwater builds. Does this help?
Great information in these videos John. Thanks

i gained a lot of information on adding the guides to my blank 2-piece rod build.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I do not. It just depends on the guide feet. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Good tips. Nice work. Are you happy with the basic CRB hand wrapping kit? I'm trying to learn as much as I can before getting started. Thanks!
Yes, I love the basic hand wrapper, and I wrapped a lot of rods with it. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My tension rod broke on my wrapper, is that essential to replace?
Yes, you want a tension rod on there, and I think you an buy them individually.
I always use the Forhan wrap on all my spinning rods.
Extra insurance!
And you can never have enough insurance. Thank you for watching and commenting Big Mac.
I would have Laid the 2 blues and the 1 white under the Gray At the beginning and then tied them off
at the end.
That is definitely a way to do it Harry. You hank you for watching and commenting.
