I also agree with this statement. But imagine Terra's situation. The man was condemned for 13 years and only came back because Sora learned how to reverse time to save everyone's lives. Had that not happened, he'd still be just a shadow.
Easy to tell the difference between them voice-wise: Riku is softer, having come to terms with a lot of the choices he's made; Meanwhile, Replica is angrier, with a hard edge as he is basically just an angry boy with nothing left to lose.
You can tell Riku felt sorry for his Replica before the fight even started. The look on his face, his hesitation to draw his sword…only reason he even fought him at all is because he knew the Replica wouldn’t let him get away without a fight.
To be honest, I can't speak for the complexity of the KH timeline but the purposes of each and every character are pretty damn clear if you just play the games. They pretty well throw it in your face.

@@crashpal They had a lot of plot threads that started in BBS and 3D, so I wouldn't quite say it was a cash grab... I would say it was very corporate and lifeless though. Made without passion, and like they had a checklist of threads to close off, and chose the easiest quickest simplest route for each one. The "Keyblade War" is the absolute worst of this. We got 13 big bad darkness enemies, it's an intimidating group, they've been building up to it since Birth By Sleep - can we even beat them? ... How about we kill them all in a row, it's so easy Sora is still at full strength after, and they each get a little monologue cutscene as they fade so we can pretend they're still characters. Done and dusted.
Terra not only aided Xehanort in life, but in his ambiguous state after the end of Birth By Sleep he still aids Ansem, Seeker of Darkness when not battling Xehanort mentally. Furthermore, him merged with Xehanort wreak havoc on the world of Kingdom Hearts as Ansem, Seeker of Darkness and Xemnas. Aqua and Ventus may have been maximally unlucky, but Terra pays for his mistakes across four lives.

There's something so funny to me about having such an incredible line like "Good riddance to a phony life." so close to a hilariously stupid one like "I'm me he says."
And even closer still to the great line (with just as good delivery) of "Everything about me is borrowed.. as long as you're around, I'll never be more than a shadow!"
can i just say how bs it is that riku replica can bust out dark aura whenever he wants. yet we have to have 3 nine cards to it! and the only deck that has that is the castle oblivion deck.
As an avid recom hater i feel like i overhated it bc i didnt understand the card/sleight mechanic. The same thing happened with bbs and its melding mechanic. I was so frustrated that i couldnt beat the final boss and ven but my best command was curaga, and i didnt have any cooldown reductions
This one is inside Riku. I guess the pre-remake Repliku is the one joining the ranks. Like the Repliku before his "fake heart" was remake, or just any Repliku before Marluxia battle as he changed when he came to attack him

Yeah. He's pretty tragic if you ask me. One of best character in KH lore and I'm glad they got him conclusive resolution in KH3

Voice acting is awesome. One of the few cases that the dub version is better than the original. Xemnas, OG Sora and Xion pre-KH3 are nice, too.
