  • Pay close attention to the bullet drop. In order to hit the steel plate at 1001 yards, Josh had to aim more than 146 feet above the target.
    We will never stop innovating.

    SSK said they don't make the .458 Whisper any more. They've gone to the .45-70. The Whisper was about 600 grains at about 1050 fps. I believe the barrel twist rate is 1:10. The .45-70 twist rate is higher for the Whisper version than a normal .45-70. Marlin is out of business at this time. Anyone with info on where to get a sustainable outfit, please let me know.
    Thank you!

    I was going to say that's absurd, but then I remembered people were making hits at 1000 yards with 45-70 and irons a hundred years ago, so all that new technology has only reduced the round counted needed to get on target. Wonder what the inflation-adjusted cost comparison might be between this setup and a Sharps and the sights capable of doing this back in the day.

    DAYAMN!!!I Did NOT know that round was capable of 1K... much less subsonic! What's that optic setup again (I found the rangefinder, can't find that exact scope)?
    If you could make that shot with a .458 SOCOM AR, imagine what my old burned out USAMTU/SOTIC ass could do with that on my Desert Tech MDR in .308! Feral hogs beware!
    Oh yea man, AWESOME shot bro!Oh yea, oh yea, nice biceps, LOL! ;)

  • @motohead077
    @motohead077 4 года назад +2

    How many shots (%) do you usually make at that distance, 1000+ yards? Even a 5mph cross wind could make it miss that size target.

    • @Rossplanet
      @Rossplanet 3 года назад +2

      According to Cartridges of the World, the .458 Whisper round, at 600 grains, is affected very little by crosswinds and maintains most of its energy at one mile out.

    On the video it doesnt even look close to a 1000 yards ..., also bullet drop for this is probably going to be in the reagion of more than 200 feet... the barrel should be pointing upwards by a lot !
